About this property

House 10 Minutes from Manhattan

Do you want all the joys of New York City but the relaxation of returning to a cozy house in a unique and diverse area? This property is located near the subway on a quiet street only a 10-minute ride from Manhattan. In addition, as one of the most ethnically diverse neighbourhoods in the world, Astoria--especially famous for its Greek and Italian food--features wonderful restaurants, so you can eat very well without the high price tag. Since the property is so convenient to the subway, you can easily explore other neighbourhoods in Queens and Brooklyn that the usual tourist does not see. If you have children, you will want to visit the renown New York Hall of Science in Flushing (also accessible by subway), which is right next to the Queens Zoo. We are in walking distance from the Noguchi Museum and the Museum of the Moving Image. The Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan is a ten-minute ride, and Greenwich Village is eighteen minutes away.

Our house comfortably sleeps six. The refinished basement with a trundle bed is a separate bedroom with its own bathroom and access to the garden. The master bedroom upstairs is near the children's bedroom with a trundle bed.

Perfect

Jerry's place is perfect. He is super hospitable and was very accommodating to our schedule. His apartment is spacious, clean, air conditioned, and very close to the city. We loved staying there and will definitely stay there again if we come to the city and need a place. His description on the site is completely accurate. Loved the entire experience.

AMAZING!

We stayed in this house in Queens in July. 2012. The accomodations were spacious for the 3 of us. A well equipped kitchen, dining area, living room, beautiful bedrooms and a comfortable bathroom with a nice hot shower. This place offers far more room than two expensive hotel rooms in the city. The neighbourhood is safe and quiet. Shops are just a few blocks away. A subway (N) is just at the corner of the street to take you in a few minutes (only a nice one minute walk) with easy access to Midtown Manhattan or to Upper East from where you go straight to Central Park. The property owner Remo was very friendly and hospitable. The neighborhood was very quiet and beautiful. I recommend this property to any family looking to have a good New York experience without all the noise and disturbance of the city. Remo gets two thumbs up in my book.

Didn't Actually Stay, But Viewed Apartment

Unfortunately, I couldn't stay at Remo and Martha's place because I had already committed to another apartment nearby. However, my brother, who lives in Queens, viewed the place for me and had nice things to say about the house and its owners. Home is as represented in the pictures, three floors, futon bed in basement level, kitchen/living room/dining room on main level, and bedrooms upstairs. A huge plus: washer/dryer in the house, so you can pack light and do laundry without lugging to the laundromat. Though not a huge home, you'll get plenty of space for your money. Remo and Martha were lovely people to deal with, both over the phone and in person (when my brother met them), so I wanted to post this review in the hope that my loss will be someone else's gain.

8/10 Good

Nice cozy house close to Manhattan

A nice house located in Queens but very close to Manhattan. I stayed there with wife and 2 kids and it was perfect as kids had their own room with a bunk bed. Very close to subway, so it was easy to get to the city. Central park was 15 min subway ride and east river was little over a mile away (we walked there). Shops and restaurants half a block away, If you are going there with a family, I will highly recommend it. It has enough living space for 6 people. Kitchen, dining table, living room etc, all is there for a family to enjoy time in NY.

We have owned and this house for 22 years and have enjoyed all that Astoria has to offer. I am a writer and a professor, and my husband is a journalist working in Manhattan, so our close proximity to the city has been a real bonus, but we also enjoy coming home to the more relaxed atmosphere of Astoria. We have been particularly happy with the fact that our kids get to experience such a diverse and lively neighborhood and that we have become familiar with people, cultures, and cuisines from all over the world.

Why they chose this property

Cozy house only 4 subway stops from Manhattan. Great location, great neighborhood, close to all shopping and wonderful restaurants. We are a 10 minute walk from the Noguchi Museum, Socrates Sculpture Park, The Museum of The Moving Image, and others. We are a 10 minute drive/bus ride from Laguardia Airport, a five minute drive/subway ride from Astoria Park and the Triboro Bridge. Our three story attached brick house comes with a backyard with a grill, Wi-Fi, a private parking space in front, and all the activities in Queens, Manhattan, and Brooklyn only a subway ride away.

What makes this property unique

Though our street is quiet and friendly, the neighborhood is lively both during the day and at night. You will experience cultures and cuisines from all over the world and enjoy the nearby museums and enclaves of ethnic neighborhoods. We are a block from the N/W subway train, which will take you straight to the Upper East Side, Midtown Manhattan, Greenwich Village (the New York University area), and the Park Slope area in Brooklyn.
