Society Hill Rental
Apartment is a newly refurbished apartment which still needs some updating to make it top notch. Should be noted that although a 1st floor apartment one must navigate a circular staircase without handrails to get to the main floor having livingroom and kitchen (both very nice). Then another circular staircase to bedrooms and bathroom. Being seniors it was difficult for me to do the stairs and ended up crawling on all 4's the first time up. However I did master the stairs after awhile. The bed was not made up and the bottom sheet was impossible to get on the large thick mattress. The apartment temp was cold and we needed to get to the bedroom before finding the thermostat. The refrigerator was not cold even with changing the thermostat and the freezer was very iced up. Despite these worries, we would stay there again as good location and comfortable apartment.

Nice unit, well located
We were spooked by the bad reviews, but in truth there is far more positives than negatives, The unit is newly renovated, tastefully decorated, and well appointed. However. it has zero "curb appeal". The entry way cramped, cluttered and collects bags of trash that cannot seem to find thier own way to a proper receptical. The description of the property indicates that there is parking, when in fact there is none provided. Street parking is scarce, and closely regulated and public lots are pricey. The wifi is subject to frequent interruptions, which is maddening. The refridgerator is sub zero in the freezer, while luke warm in the main compartment. Our food spoiled as a consequence. Given the downsides, it is unlikely that we will return.

Good location, but that's about it
Other than the perfect spot on the map, this property has little going for it. The two flights of narrow, twisty stairs were a challenge climbing with our luggage. We came to town for a wedding, so we had bigger bags than we'd usually bring on a trip. The kitchen could have been quite nice, but it was sparsely equipped. The freezer needed defrosting, and the refrigerator section didn't work. Groceries we purchased the night we arrived spoiled, as did our leftover restaurant takeaway items. If there was a hair dryer there, I couldn't find it. The linens were minimal, like your first college apartment. The floors were dirty; it's gross to have to brush off your feet before your climb in bed or put on your socks. I won't be staying here again.

Reservation Canceled Without Notice
After our reservation was initially confirmed, I had multiple communications with the property owner (the last just a few weeks before our reservation) and nothing was communicated about the property not being available. In one of the emails, I even asked if everything was good to go and the response was “Yes, 100%”. We arrived at the apartment and could not get the code to work so as I was emailing the owner, I saw I had received an email from them that morning that said the reservation had been canceled several weeks before and they hadn’t gotten any communication from me. Which is because no such email was ever received. As we are frantically trying to find a hotel, the maintenance person shows up and says that VRBO should never have shown the property as available. But if that was the case, why was this never mentioned in any of the communications I had with the owner? Luckily, we were able to find a hotel and our trip was not completely ruined. We did receive a refund from the owner (processed the day of our reservation which seems odd that if it was canceled several weeks before then why wait until the reservation date to process the refund) but we have to also try to get a refund from VRBO for all of the fees and taxes. We have used VRBO many times and this was definitely not what we are accustomed to when booking with them.

Good location, spotty experience
The unit is located close to everything we needed, and was generally okay. However, a few issues clouded the experience. We never got a communication about check in, and had to reach out to get the details when we arrived (despite asking for this before hand--told to expect and email, but the one we got was not helpful). It was hot and humid during our visit. When we arrived, the central AC was not working, so it as a bad first night. The manager did have window units sent over the next day (after several emails and texts) and it was eventually repaired. Garbage disposal not working so sink backed up. After texting the manager, it was repaired. And the fridge leaked leaving a puddle of water on the top shelf. This was not fixed while we were there. Wireless was terrible (we had to use our own hotspots). The building has seen better days even if the unit was renovated (though a little on the cheap side) and noisy downstairs neighbor who smoked in the tiny courtyard made it impossible to open windows on the few cooler evenings. All in all, it met our basic needs, but there were just too many issues to make it really enjoyable. Manager was very responsive, but I felt the place could use more proactive maintenance. Would not return.
