Our pups and us had a lovely stay at this beautiful, peaceful, well maintained property. Communication with the host was prompt and check in and out was a breeze!
The gatehouse was amazing. We loved the hiking trails, the grounds, and the location. Campfires were super easy by the lounge. We loved being super close to so much great hiking! We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Such a delight! The house was very clean and comfortable. The atmosphere was pleasant and peaceful. We enjoyed the screened in area. Everything worked well. Groceries, restaurants and activities were close. (Johnson Shutins, Elephant Rocks, Caledonia shops)The grounds are very interesting. We just didn’t have a long enough stay.
Very peaceful property with lots of pleasant surprises - walking trails, horseshoe pits, basketball court. Our family really enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning someday. Had a few questions upon check in and host was very responsive and answered within minutes. Overall pleasant experience.
My group had a good time. We thought the house was nice and clean, the propery was well maintained, and Linda was congenial and quick to respond. We would visit again.

Nice place to get away from it all. The grounds are very walkable, with hiking trails right there on the property. We enjoyed sitting out on the screened in porch and also BBQing. We spent time at Johnston Shutins state park and Elephant rocks SP, both within 30 minutes of rental. Very clean and well cared for property.
If you enjoy your privacy like we do, this modest property was perfect for a holiday weekend. We wanted a quiet place to chill--this place certainly got us away from it all. The interesting setting made for some curious exploration, investigation, and fun sleuthing some history of the place.
Spacious, comfortable cabin in a beautiful setting
Three couples shared this 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom cabin for a long weekend getaway. Everything was wonderful-- from the well-stocked kitchen to the screened-in porch to the living room with plenty of seating and a large TV. We enjoyed hiking on the trails on the property. The cabin was clean and had everything that we needed. Communication with Linda was excellent. We really enjoyed our stay-- thank you!
The house fit our family well and was located close to town which was convenient. The host was very responsive and nice. We absolutely loved the farm and the use of the trails and lake. Beds were comfortable. We only stayed a few days so not having a washer and dryer wasn’t a deal breaker but for a longer stay we probably would have looked for a place with that amenity available as kids get clothes dirty and being able to wash them would be a nice. We’d definitely stay here again.
This property is perfect for anyone that desires a secluded getaway. The grounds are vast with amazing views and trails for the nature lover. The owner, Linda, is wonderful and responds quickly to texts. The dining table had a tray of snacks and candy that was enjoyed after long hikes. Also had K-cups for that much needed quick cup of Joe. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay with my beloved golden doodle, he also gives The Loft of Arcadia 5 woofs!!!
We brought the family down for the Battle of Pilot Knob weekend, and this was the perfect place for our stay. It was just a few miles from Fort Davidson, easy to find, quiet, and clean. We loved the screened in porch and all the open space surrounding the house. The beds were comfortable, and the wifi good enough to stream Netflix on the large TV. The bathrooms were small but just fine for a weekend getaway.
The house was well suited to our needs and nicely situated to area attractions. We stayed for two nights with our four adult children (in Missouri from out of state) to explore the area—Elephant Rocks, Taum Sauk, the Pilot Knob battlefield and visitor center. House was clean, spacious, comfortable, very quiet and peaceful. Clear, prompt communication with the host and clear directions about finding and accessing the property. We enjoyed playing board games, grilling, talking, and the area sights but ran out of time for the fire pit and walking trails on the property. Next time…

This beautiful home was the perfect spot to meet up with my brother & sister-in-law. It is in a quiet, country setting, but still quite close to town. It is immaculate and well-appointed. We especially enjoyed sitting on the screened-in porch in the evening. Thank you for a lovely stay!
Very nice, tucked away, getaway. Interesting trails. Very peaceful.
Not handicap accessible. The bathrooms were a little challenging for one of our wheelchair-bound family members, also the thick carpeting was hard to navigate in wheelchair.
Property was very clean and well maintained. Overall, great stay for 3/4 of our travelers. The screened-in porch was our favorite part. Also appreciated the snacks and coffee which held us over until we could get to the store. Great place to stay for people looking for peace and quiet and who might enjoy some nice trail walks.... lots of places to explore.
We were looking last minute for a place to stay near Piedmont, MO to visit my mom for the Holiday. We were lucky to find this place. The wide open spaces and privacy were delightful. The house was very clean and well stocked. The area is also lovely. We visited Elephant Rocks State Park, Clearwater Lake, and Big Springs (worth the drive). We ate at the Iron Mule (twice)! The food was delicious. The property is well maintained and has hiking trails and fire pits. We cannot wait to come stay again.

About the host

My husband and I moved to the Valley back in 2014. We bought the Iron County Farms next to this property in 2013, which was once a Thoroughbred farm. We decided to run cattle on it. In 2020 we turned one of our big barn lofts into a wedding venue. Keeping the original woodwork of this beautiful 100-year-old barn intact. It's definitely one of a kind. In August of 2021 We had the chance to purchase this wonderful 38 acres that sits adjacent to our farm, that would give us 3 additional venues, plus 6 Cabins. We were so excited for this new property. In January of 2022 we finally took over ownership of this beautiful property and in May of 2022 decided to share our cabins with all of you! We hope you love them and the property as much as we do.
Why they chose this property
The thing we enjoy most about this property is its beauty and history. We love that it's just a mile outside of town, but you feel a million miles away.
What makes this property unique
In the early 1900's this property was a Methodist kid's camp called Epworth Among the Hills. The big Pavillion you will see on the hill of this property is from the 1904 World's Fair of St. Louis. The two-story red Mission House was established in 1907 and was where the missionaries would stay. Alot of kids spent their summers on this beautiful property. The camp shut its doors in the late 1990's and new owners bought it in 2001 and did a wonderful job refurbing all the original cabins and the Riverstone lodge. The boy cabins still sit in the original state but gutted and new roofs until we decided how we want to refurbish them.
My husband and I owning the farm next door and turning one of our 100-year-old barns into a wedding/event venue, when this property became available to purchase, we didn't have to think twice. We took over ownership in January of 2022. We changed some furnishing inside the cabins, installed charter and some TV's. Then in May of 2022 we decided to put the cabins on short term rental sites so everyone could come and enjoy the beauty and history of this best kept secret in the Valley.
We also do large and small group retreats, with or without meals, weddings and all other events.
So, when you come and stay with us, take some time to walk around and breathe in a little bit of history.
