Old Homes Week
I selected Janet's apartment because it fit our need. We were four and the space was right for our needs. Also, I am a Beaufort native and I recognized the name of the hostess as a member of a family with whom I was familiar. My family had a very comfortable stay. The facilities were described precisely and the hostess helped us enjoy our stay.

Heart of Beaufort
Stayed here while visiting family in the area. This place is in the middle of everything in Beaufort - though stays quiet as it's set back from Live Oaks. Janet was a great host with tons of recommendations and a very friendly dog.

An absolutely lovely getaway!
Oh man. My partner and I had such a great stay here. Janet, the owner, was incredibly friendly, responsive and hospitable. She even had a bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived. She is a Salter as well, which connects back to Salter’s Path, which was really cool and added a bit of history to our stay. The apartment above her home was rustic (in all the right ways) and clean, filled with paintings she’d done over the years which were a beautiful addition. Whenever we had questions she was more than willing to assist. We loved it here and will definitely be back!

My name is Janet Salter McLendon. I grew up in the house and the family-loving vibes are all through the house. I have lived in the area most of my life and moved into the family home after my parents passed. I am a retired Instructional Technology Facilitator who taught in the Carteret County School System. I love cooking, painting, and working in the yard and garden but most of all, I love to travel. I am still working to support my travel habits. Chloe, my Aussie doodle and I welcome you to "A Salter's Path".

Why they chose this property

Why stay here? This property is in a quiet neighborhood and within walking/bike distance from downtown Beaufort. Beaufort has historical grounds that will take you back to the 1700s. The double-decker bus tour will show you around town and the area's history. The Mariners Museum features Black Beards Queen Anne’s Revenge Artifacts and explores what it was like to work in the waters around Beaufort. Beaufort loves our pirates, and we have an actual legal Privateer named Sinbad. Beaufort has hosted a Pirate Invasion every year since the 1950s, visit the encampment, and emerged into the pirate life. Take the young ones on a pirate adventure and a pirate ghost walk in the evening. Water sports include kayaking, paddleboard, boat tours, and parasailing. Numerous boat trips are available for you to take and explore Cape Lookout, Rachel Carson Estuary, Sand Dollar Island, and Shackleford Banks, where the Spanish wild mustangs are located. Book the Crystal Coast Lady, tour the waterways, or take Lookout catamaran on a sunset cruise. Oh, do not forget to spend time in downtown Beaufort; the shopping and the restaurants are fabulous.

What makes this property unique

You can play downtown all day but come home to a quiet and safe neighborhood. You don't have to pay for parking, that is if you can find parking downtown. I have two bikes you are welcome to use and avoid both the parking and fees. We are only 15 minutes from Atlantic Beach and Fort Macon. Since I have lived in the area most of my life, I am your personal concierge and can advise you on restaurants, and places to see and visit.
