Our stay in Big Trees Village in January 2024
We really enjoyed the warm hospitality of Steven and his lovely family. We fall in love with the nice and quiet place.

A beautiful jungle sanctuary
Our month went by quickly, but it has been wonderful. Steven and Som have created such a beautiful slice of simple, sustainable living in this small village. This was definitely not a "hotel stay"; This was a coming home. From our ride to the property from the airport, we already knew this place wasn't just going to be a hotel. I loved coming to our villa the first night and having fresh coconuts from the property, cracked open and ready to drink. It really set the tone for the rest of the month. The villa itself was quaint and comfortable. We had everything we needed for me to get meals put together. I'd say the only thing that I didn't expect was no hot water, but it was far from a problem. It's hot in Thailand and the cool showers were perfection. To say the village property is "beautiful" is a bit of an understatement. This property has been planned, manicured, and maintained for 30+ years and it is a pure jungle sanctuary. Tons of plumeria, hibiscus, coconut palms, banana trees, and more. This place is a nature/plant lovers dream. We were definitely happy with our first month at Big Trees Village and looking forward to more time spent there.

On the cool mountain side above town.
This property was as described - it consists of individual bungalows in mature gardens that allow a nice level of privacy, but also allows for linkages with the hosts and other guests at the outdoor restaurant. The restaurant has a big menu, but seemed happy to adjust to requests based on desired spiciness or ingredients. The location is ideal for relaxed walks (or runs) on the paved mountain road that leads up into the Samui hills through long sections of plantation (can get busy during morning / afternoon periods - check with host). It's about a 20 min walk down to town (5 mins or less on a motorbike). The hosts took care of questions about motorbikes and larger motorcycles. I'm looking forward to future trips where I can take advantage of Samui's easy ferry access to other islands and the mainland to explore more on the big bikes. The host seemed open to facilitating a tour by motorcycle if you have a small group, so worth asking if that's an interest.
