Playa Grande is a world-class surfing destination and there is surfing within a short walk from the house at mile marker #25. The main break is in the town of Playa Grande about one mile from the house to the north and there is another break at the south end of Playa Grande called Casitas. There are opportunities for surfing lessons within Palm Beach Estates at Playa Grande Surf Camp and Acachete Surf, both within a few minutes walk. There are opportunities for beginners and advanced surfers at Playa Grande. Also, Playa Grande is surrounded by the Marino Las Baulas National Park - this park protects and preserves a large variety of tropical wildlife and vegetation along many miles of beach and the large inland estuary. In addition to surfing and turtle adventures, there are many other activities to do if desired. There are several operators in Palm Beach Estates that can arrange for adventure activities like nature walks, zip-lining, ATV, horseback riding, fishing, and so much more!

This retreat is perfect for couples and small families. Enjoy a refreshing swim in your private outdoor pool while the grilling specialist treats everyone to delicious grilled steaks, patties, and veggies on the gas grill by the pool! There are a handful of beach loungers for your delight as well as an outdoor dining area for meals alfresco. Inside, this darling home offers a kitchen/living/dining area. Find a double sofa bed, a compact dining table for four, and a fully equipped kitchen with a full-size fridge, stove, oven, microwave, and coffee maker. A stackable washer/dryer in the hallway allows you to pack as light as you would like! The bedroom provides easy deck access through sliding glass doors. The full bathroom available offers a walk-in shower.

Private Gem in the Hills

Palacio Zaguate is a lovely one bedroom home above the beaches of Playa Grande and Playa Ventanas. The lot itself is very private: from both the spacious bedroom and the living room/kitchen you can look out sliding doors onto the patio/pool area, a large grassy lot, and an ocean view on the far horizon. Neighbors are at a distance. Inside find a spacious bedroom with wardrobe and king bed, comfortable bathroom with walk-in shower (and basic amenities like soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner); well-equipped kitchen (blender, toaster, coffeemaker, microwave, pots and pants, lots of dishes and tools, and basic spices); small table for four, and a large sofa bed. Room to cook, eat, and lounge outside or in. Tidy unit. Easy check-in process. Good communication from host. You’ll drive about eight to ten minutes to the beach and a small handful of restaurants, or walk the dirt road for about 25 minutes. We had a 2WD small SUV and had no problem with the driveway in dry season; just drive carefully as you would anywhere in CR. Loved this rental and would return in a heartbeat!

Playa Grande Sunset Views

We absolutely loved the two nights we stayed at Palacio Zaguate! The pool was so wonderful and the views of the sunsets were stunning. Perhaps the most magical moment was when we saw starlight reflected in the pool as the bats made their rounds. The house was well equipped, clean and the bed was really comfortable. While the road in is a bit rough, you can easily drive it if you take your time to avoid the potholes. And shout out to Andrey who made the whole check-in/check-out process easy.

Know what you are renting

This property is so far off the main road you can’t get a taxi or Uber so you must rent an suv. An SUV is a must since the roads are all dirt and have horrible dips. They only had a little car and we got 2 flat tires from the roads. We had no running water for 16 hours during the week. Then we had no power or water the last day we were trying to pack up to leave. The sofa was pretty dirty and you didn’t want to use. The shower head has such lower water pressure it’s hard to get all the shampoo and conditioner out so, I looked like a grease head the whole time. The pool was dirty when we arrived and after 8 days it was still never cleaned. There is a canopy over the pool which has large carabiners connection which was fine until the wind blows in the night and they are banging on the the roof all night long. There was weeks worth of bird poop on the deck in which we scrubbed for a while trying to clean because you couldn’t access the door way without stepping in it.

Great little house!

We were only able to stay 2 nights but would have loved to stay longer. The house was a perfect size for us and the bed was so comfy it was hard to get up! A quiet neighborhood close to the beach which has amazing sunsets. The pool was perfect for cooling off. Andrey was very easy to communicate with, We would stay here again if we return to Playa Grande.
