About this property

Beautiful Country Home

Las Cascadas has just been thru a face lift and we are back!. This is a rural house built of adobe, large wood beams, 10 and 12 ft. ceilings, thatch roof in some areas and decorative wood slat ceilings in most. It is a house surrounded by vegetation, a place to sit back, meditate and comune with nature. It is South Pacific style with open LV, DN and kitchen that give out to the garden and pool. The garden is full of flowers, the creek runs at the bottom of the garden and we have a waterfall as well. One mile from the center of Malinalco - close enough to hike but far enough from the noise. Every bedroom has spectacular views of the mountains. There are large patios all around. The kids will enjoy playing in the garden and the little ones in the baby side of the pool. Built on three levels the house sits against the side of a hill. The garden level has the LV, DN, full kitchen - with OPEN concept to the pool, patios and garden. The laundry room is on this level as well,. The mid level is the main entry to the house. There are two large bedrooms on this level each with kingsize beds, private baths and terraces. The top level has 3 bedrooms each with its private bath: #3- with kingsize bed or two singles; a separate sitting/playroom room that could sleep two more would share the bathroom. #4- with queen bed, and #5- "The Kid's Room"" with three beds (bunk).

There is a separate palapa by the creek to take a snooze on the hammock or exercise on the walker and in the evening sit upstairs and have a drink and enjoy the breeze.

There is secure parking. behind the gates for 3 cars comfortably but you could fit in possibly another 2 more.

There is a small separate casita on the property, for when the owner comes to visit but it is often closed and not for rent.
We have a landline and WiFI and we are adding a link so you can use your computer anywhere on the property. Cel reception is not that great but we do get calls from all over the world on the high part of the property. The empty lot next door belongs to us and kids like to scramble around there and the garden has a lower level for those that need to get away from everybody else every once in a while.

The community of Jalmolonga is just down the road and you can walk over and buy fresh vegetables, drinks etc.

Incredible place, beautiful home, and Elodia, a wonderful hostess.
I absolutely recommend Las Cascadas. Our hostess had everything ready for our group. The rooms are all different and furnished with good taste. Two of the rooms have terraces and the master suite is very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and Elodia even had for us citronella oil lamps (against mosquitoes). One thing I found excellent is that there is enough room for a crowd. The weather was beautiful and the gardens are well kept. If you want to refresh yourself, you have the pool. The house was so pleasant that we really did not go out a lot. I totally recommend you try this place.

About the host

Hosted by Elodia Hernandez

Host profile image
I am a retired stockbroker from NYC. I designed and built the house to enjoy nature and the outdoors. I live in a separate house on the property when I am in Malinalco. I have four dogs and two cats - all friendly but segregated from our guests.

Why they chose this property

Malinalco is now a Pueblo Magico and it is fun to visit the town center with its market and all the lovely shops. We also have churches dating back to the 16th century, archeological sites, good restaurants. Its only 1-1/2 hours outside of Mexico City and can be your center for trips to Cuernavaca, Taxco, the ruins of Xoxicalco and many more

What makes this property unique

Having a creek at the bottom of the property and being surrounded by all kinds of trees is particularly restful,. The weather in this part of the country is usually breezy and the adobe keeps it cool. Cold enough in winter to wear a jacket and hot enough in summer to wear shorts
