50th Wedding Anniversary Weekend
Heigh Torr Estate was an excellent choice for our family celebration weekend. The house is full of unique charm and history. The landscape is stunning. The room was spacious and the bed was absolutely luxurious. The property manager was prompt in responding to my questions and quickly solved any issues that came up, even showing up in person when needed. Close to many vineyards. Definitely would come back for another stay at this property!

Beautiful Property Nestled in Wine Country
I was genuinely impressed when I found the Heigh Torr Estate via VRBO this spring, but the pictures simply do not do this property justice. My family stayed here for a long weekend as we celebrated my cousin's vow renewal. The house and property are stunning and provide guests a feeling of serenity while also offering the comforts of a modern day home. I must also say that Scott, the Managing Director, was incredibly gracious and flexible, as we asked last minute to host a luncheon the day before the ceremony as well as to add another family of 3 that were able to partake in the festivities despite not being included in the original party count. Thank you so very much for allowing us to stay and make such wonderful memories over the holiday weekend!

Rural Farmhouse Retreat
We had a short stay in January 2023 but still had a wonderful time visiting Heigh-Torr Estate and the surrounding areas. The property manager was extremely responsive and accommodating – he genuinely wanted our family to love our stay and was very quick to answer questions or respond to any needs. The property is a lovely estate with so much historical character and charm. My children said walking into the house was like stepping back in time – we enjoyed walking through the many different rooms and admiring the décor and details. The space is very large and fairly spread out – the 5 bedrooms are not all near each other so this is something to keep in mind if your party has small children that need to be near parents. We did not need the 2 single beds so we only used the 4 king bedrooms – each room had a cozy little sitting area and the beds were so soft and comfortable – I felt like I was sleeping inside a cloud. The house is about 15 minutes outside of downtown Purcellville, VA and the drive is through rolling hills and farmland. We came in January so I can only imagine how lush and beautiful the farms and vineyards must be in other seasons. Some things we enjoyed in the surrounding area: Purcellville, VA – roller skating at Bush Tabernacle Rink and coffee at Doppio Bunny Coffee; Bluemont, VA – hiking to Bears Den Scenic Overlook and eating lunch at Dirt Farm Brewery; Hillsboro, VA – enjoying farm fresh food at Stoneybrook Farm and Market. Our family can’t wait to return in warmer weather to enjoy the scenery and the giant pool/hot tub on the property!

Beautiful Property
Beautiful property with places to roam outside and inside. The home was beautiful with lots of spaces to roam. The kids enjoyed hide and seek for hours. The bedrooms and bathrooms were very clean and comfortable with plenty of towels and bedding for all. The kitchen could use some updates but we were able to cook everything we needed there. The home is in a rustic property so the wifi is spotty causing issues with the TV access. The owner was responsive and sent someone out to fix the wifi however it still did not work well. The house was quite cold when we arrived. The owner sent someone to inspect the heat and resolve the issue immediately with space heaters then sent someone out again the following day to get it working properly. All in all we enjoyed our stay

About the host

Hosted by Scott J. Muchow, Managing Director

Host profile image
I've always loved old things; old properties and old friends. For the past twenty years, I have acquired and restored historic residential, multifamily and commercial properties in the Washington, DC area.

Not too long ago, I began searching for a historic, distinctive property in Loudoun County, VA, about an hour west of Washington, DC that could host weddings, overnight stays, and corporate retreats; but perhaps most importantly could become a real place of rest for so many I knew who were totally burned out, exhausted, and needed to escape the pressures of life for awhile; that place is Heigh Torr.

Why they chose this property

The first time I visited Heigh Torr, I turned off Harpers Ferry Rd. onto the property and stopped my car. It was breathtaking. After a few moments, I started my car again and slowly made my way across nearly a half-mile of fenced driveway passing fields on my left and right as I approached the historic home, cottage, Olympic-sized pool, and barns set on a plateau at the base of the Short Hill Mountains.

There is a stillness here, a quiet, and a sense that we are all merely stewards and guests of a property that has been cared for by many, many families before us...

What makes this property unique

The Heigh Torr Estate is a distinctive, historic retreat offering 178 acres for your vacation stay, corporate retreat, milestone events, or just a much-needed getaway.

The property sleeps 12 in 5 luxuriously-appointed bedrooms and includes 4 1/2 bathrooms. It has substantial formal and casual living areas, a formal dining area, covered outdoor space overlooking the Olympic-sized pool, 2 hot tubs, high-speed Internet, multiple televisions, coffee stations, and more!

When you stay at Heigh Torr, you'll have the entire campus to yourself. Imagine waking up in the morning with a cup of tea or coffee and watching the mist rise off the mountains and fields, heading for a swim, going for a short hike up the mountain, or maybe heading next door for a wine tasting to one of the local wineries or a great meal in nearby Purcellville...
