About this property

Pavillon, Château des Sénéchaux, an amazing refuge on the banks of the river.

Perfectly situated with views extending along the river and across the fields, the calm neutral tones of the natural stone and coffee walls, and the classic elegance of the interior, exudes reverie and gentle retreat.

A double half-tester bed with rich tapestries cossets and cocoons, and the light and welcoming shower room has its own views over the garden and river, and can be accessed directly from the garden after a refreshing dip in the river.

The substantial private garden leads to a secluded and exclusive river balcony, with stunning views of the sunset over the château. Enjoy a quiet moment with the gentle sounds of the river and the scent of honeysuckle soothing all cares away.

Of unusual yet impressive proportions, unexpectedly appointed, impeccable, and at the foot of our private château, this property by the river, has a well placed garden, and is a refuge, made for your pleasure and relaxation.

Accessed through a private gate, you will be the envy of the tourists exploring the village, since this gate leads to the garden with its riverside walkway and 17th century river balcony, temptingly visible from many places, but inaccessible to all but you.

The Pavillon was built for the pleasure of the owners of the Château des Sénéchaux, and it is easy to imagine the ladies taking the air whilst the gentlemen smoked their pipes and discussed serious matters.
This simple, but perfectly-formed pavilion sits at one end of the lower garden, and you have the view of the full length and width of the grounds with a stunning backdrop of limestone cliffs and walls at one end, the defensive walls of the Château des Sénéchaux on one side, and the river and fields on the other.

As you enter through the private access gate, your eyes will be drawn to the river and limestone cliffs on your left, and you will be tempted to head past the pavilion along the river walkway and terrace, all the way along towards the river balcony. However, your hosts will guide you into the property, letting you explore the grounds at your leisure. Inside you will discover a warm and welcoming hideaway, cosy yet luxurious, intimate and romantic, with a close-up view of the river and countryside.

On a hot summer's day, you have so many choices, from making the most of the cool of the building by curling up in an armchair with a book to read, or lazily stretching on the settee for a doze, or lying in the shade of awning with the warmth of the sun around you, and for those who seek to enhance their tan, the entire garden is at your disposal for sunbathing.

In such close proximity to the river, this property is ideally suited for those who enjoy a dip, or maybe you will consider bringing your paddle-board with you. There are canoes to hire all the way along the river, and fishing is very popular with the locals.

In the cooler months, the wood burner adds a visible warmth to the background heating, and the property becomes cosy and private as you close out the  cold and sip at your hot chocolate or glass of wine.

The evenings are beautiful in the pavilion, with birdsong, and even the owls who live in the tower put on a show. The sound of the river soothes away your troubles, and sleep comes so easily as the rural air lulls you into perfect relaxation.

About the host

Host profile image
It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to our property. In 2011, after five years of research abroad, many visits to various properties, and with four children aged three to nine, we found a property that appealed to us in every way. The target of our affections was called the Château des Sénéchaux, in Bourdeilles. The property had been empty for a few years, but it attracted us to its potential and above all that it was located in a magnificent location. Many years later we love being here and have found a fondness for the heritage of this area. We wish to share all these privileged places with those who have the same taste, the same interest in old architecture, the same desire to safeguard our heritage, and particularly with those who appreciate the details. We are genuine, warm and caring hosts who want you to feel the magic of the property. We keep your needs and desires as our priority and aim to allow you to be cocooned with a sense of luxury and space, class while maintaining comfort and sumptuousness, to be pampered and spoiled, and to have an unforgettable stay. We left Great Britain in 2001 and lived in Sri Lanka, Thailand (where our four children were born), Maisons-Laffitte and Philadelphia, before settling permanently in the Dordogne in 2011 at the Château des Sénéchaux. Through David's intuition, innovative use of materials, determination, natural skill and dexterity, and Kay's complementary ideas and talents, we have brought our beautiful home back to its original form. original splendor. In addition, during our travels in Asia and elsewhere, we have acquired original and stylish furniture and unique accessories, which have allowed us to accentuate the class and the remarkable charm of the estate.

Why they chose this property

Located a few metres from the Dronne river and in the heart of the Dordogne countryside, the Château des Sénéchaux is perfectly located for paddleboarding, wild swimming and walks in the forest. Available on request, a rowboat for fun on the river, or take it upstream and stop for a picnic by the river. The beautiful medieval village of Bourdeilles is on your doorstep, and just 10km down the road is the popular town of Brantôme, the Venice of the Dordogne. Almost every weekend there is a vide grenier (similar to garage sales) in one village or another, festivals abound during the summer and there are a plethora of events to suit all tastes. In winter, the village snuggles into a sweet hibernation, but the music continues year-round in an establishment, and local amenities provide plenty of distractions, as you experience the delightful intimacy of the village.

What makes this property unique

Located within the grounds of the castle, either in the stables and sheds wing or in the pleasure pavilion by the river, our three four-star suites at the Château des Sénéchaux in Bourdeilles are beautifully restored and offer a spectacular view over the nearby village chateaux, and the surrounding countryside. All three properties have been individually renovated with style and taste, making sure to accentuate the natural tones of wood and stone. The kitchens and bathrooms are sleek and fully equipped, with a harmonious blend of modern and old. Each suite is bright, spacious and elegant, all furnished with fine Asian and European furnishings, each evoking a natural tranquility and calm. Each suite is perfectly appointed and well-equipped to meet all your needs, including a welcome kit and provisions, and if you find you need something a little different, just ask and we'll make it right. everything we can to help you.
