The Dome at Finca Llanten offers a unique travel stay in the heart of the wine country, within walking/biking distance of numerous wineries, such as El Enemigo, a top winery of the region.
Finca llanten is the product of many years of work and investment by the American expat owner and his Agentine wife and children. It was originally an olive orchard on several acres about 15 miles from Mendoza City in a semi-rural area. Chacras, Lujan, and the route to Chile and Valle de Uco are nearby. Over time, the farm home and gardens, with an irrigation pond and and system were built. Fruit and nut trees were planted.
Built in 2019, the double geodesic dome guest structure offers beauty and comfort, as well as access to the organic farm. Guests may gather vegetables and fruit as they are seasonally available. Fresh farm eggs are also there in abundance.
There is a chef's kitchen with excellent accessories and a dishwasher.. The dome was built as a retirement home for the owner's California mother who spared no expense in hiring the finest artisans available to complete this non-typical structure. The acoustics of the dome as well as the special energy generated by its geodesic geometry are remarkable.
The main dome serves as a great room with the kitchen and living space, and a queen size posturpedic bed tucked into the back. The smaller attached dome has the bathroom, with a separate shower stall, antique bathtub, closet and laundry area.
The wall finishes are adobe, inside and out, providing the solid feel of the earth, with soaring geodesic ceiling pattern in pine wood rising above. Furnishings include eclectic art from around the world.
The front entrance opens through double doors onto the galleria porch. in front of which a large aromatics garden wraps. Furnished with table, chairs and lounges, this is a favorite area to relax and observe the workings of the farm.
The farm family lives in a nearby home on a separate driveway.
The swimming pool to be constructed in November will be shared between residents of the farm home and dome.
The farm animals include 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a herd of chickens. There are no other large animals.
English is of course spoken by the owners, although farm workers do not.
Interfacing with the family is optional. Friendly camaraderie is usual but complete privacy is also possible.
The dome is suitable for one or two people, and the futon couch could accommodate a small child.
