About this property

The Grooms · Horse Farm with a lake view: The Grooms A-frame

Completely renovated in 2015, this A-frame cottage packs a punch. The "Grooms Cabin" name comes from its history as the residence for the farm's employees charged with caring for the horses. The cabin is located at the high point of Narrin Farms with a gorgeous vantage point to see much of this 56 acre property on Lake Narrin. Enjoy our many amenities, including a private jacuzzi, hiking trails, and animals big and small who call this place home.

The cabin is equipped with a full kitchen and bath, heating and air conditioning. There's a fire pit and also a hot tub outside the door that's available for your private use. You'll find coffee, breakfast basics, and other amenities to help make your stay special.

Dogs are welcome, but they must get along with other dogs and be well-behaved around the horses and other farm animals. Leashes are required until you get on the trails. Also, dogs cannot be in the cabin while you are gone. Sorry, no cats.

Note: cobblestone walkways, decking, and a spiral staircase that leads to the loft upstairs could make for tricky footing!

There are three other cabins nearby on the property so you will see other guests on the property. The cabins are far enough apart where you will not be disturbed by the other cabins and will still feel secluded while getting to enjoy the peaceful scenery away from the hustle and bustle of home.

There are miles of forested hiking paths throughout the farm and access to Narrin Lake from these trails as well. Narrin Lake is a private-access, spring-fed lake with no motorsports. There are parts that can be quite clear and deep (85') and other sections are marshland. All of the shoreline is natural. If you plan to play in or near the water, I recommend water shoes or other foot protection.

We are working on building out a range of experiences for our guests to interact and learn more about the horses that live at Narrin Farms. We are not offering riding lessons or trail rides (yet!), but hope to do so soon. ****Please do NOT feed the horses. The fences around the pastures are electrified and are on at all times for the safety of the horses and donkeys; please do not touch the fence.****

You’re welcome to visit with the donkeys, Jackson and Samson, or the cow, Maxim any time! Please do not feed the donkeys (no matter how much they beg, or how cute they look).

***Please note, horses and donkeys on the property may not always be outside in the pastures or accessible as it is up to the owner’s discretion. FOR YOUR SAFETY, do NOT enter the barns or pastures without prior approval by Annie. This is not a dude ranch.***

Your host is Annie who also co-hosts with Holly and Carl. All three of us live nearby and are available if need be in person. Annie will make sure The Grooms Cabin is ready upon your arrival so that you can walk in and make yourself at home. If you have questions, it’s easy to reach Annie via cell or the Airbnb app.

The farm is located in a rural area. Expect a country atmosphere and small-town presence. You'll need to drive on a dirt road for about a mile to access the property.

Our little town offers a 24-hour grocery store, bars, restaurants, and drug stores within just a few miles. Nine miles further down the road is the village of Clarkston, where you'll find unique and upscale shopping and dining. Major shopping malls, movie theaters, and big-box retailers are 25 minutes away. Please see our House Manual and Guidebook for details.

There's not much for Uber or Taxi services around the farm. You will want to have your own car.

Many GPS Systems will route you to an old commercial entrance off Glass Road. Make sure that you enter through the main gates on the paved drive from Bird Road instead.

If you are planning to entertain additional guests or visitors during your stay, make sure you comply with the guidelines that are provided in the Rules section.

There are a few farm dogs that reside on the property - they're our friendly pets but also have a job to do! Don't be afraid if you're greeted by them from time to time.

We aim to provide a peaceful and scent-neutral environment to ensure that each guest experiences a healthy, comfortable, and enjoyable stay with us. Burning, vaporizing, smoking, diffusing, or cooking anything that leaves a distinct odor after your departure or finding any drugs or evidence of partying violates this policy and will result in a $250 restoration fee. Smoking is STRICTLY prohibited anywhere on the property or inside the cabin.
Welcome to The Grooms Cabin at Narrin Farms!

Coming and Going
Some GPS systems might direct you to enter the farm via the commercial entrance along Glass Road. This is the wrong entrance and will lead you onto a grassy service drive through our field and pastures . Instead, please use the northernmost entrance off Bird Road, which is paved, has an arch with three peaks and and leads directly to the drive that leads to your cabin.

When you pull into the driveway, you’ll face The Lodge – look for a big house with three red peaks. Bear right as you approach and turn onto the sandy road that leads up the hill to the Grooms Cabin.

Please drive slowly when coming and going. It’s not uncommon for dogs, horseback riders, or ducks to be wandering on or near the roads and paths throughout the property.

Entering/Exiting the Cabin
We use Yale keypad locks for our cabins. You will receive your own code at least one hour prior to your stay starting.

Here are the instructions to enter:

1. Tap the "Yale" logo
2. A keypad will appear. Enter your unique code provided to you.
3. Tap the check mark and the door should open.
4. Once inside, you can manually lock the deadbolt by turning it.
5. To lock the door from the outside when you leave, you simply tap the "Yale" logo and the door should lock.

We ask that you lock the door when you leave the property upon completion of your stay and of course at your leisure when coming and going each day.

Screen Time - Bring your Amazon login or Laptop!
The television comes equipped with an Amazon Firestick, login with your Amazon account. You can also connect to your laptop with the HDMI cord provided. We have fast and reliable internet, so you shouldn’t have a problem streaming any of your favorite services or games.

Hot Tub
The water is treated and conditioned regularly that are specially formulated for the system. To keep the water balanced, please shower before entering and do not add anything to the water. When not in use, please keep the cover on.

Our Water System
Our farm is on a well. The water here is very hard, with high mineral content – it’s safe to drink but might taste funny depending on what you’re used to!

There’s a softening system in the hall closet that will turn on each day at noon and run for 60 minutes. You might hear a hissing or perking noise during this process, which is normal.

Our tiny house has only a 12-gallon hot water tank. If you like very hot showers, you’ll need to keep them short!

Our septic system is delicate - only toilet paper can be flushed. Please use the trash to dispose of any other products.

Your Dog(s)
We do allow two small to medium sized dogs with your booking. There is a fee of $30/night for each dog (for reservations made after March 1st, 2022). Charges will be made on the first day of your stay through the Airbnb app. Please let us know when booking if you are bringing any dogs and if so what breed they are. When you're exploring the property with pups, please keep them leashed or at your side until you hit the trails. If you plan to leave them alone in the house, they must be in a crate/kennel as we know even the best behaved dogs act differently in new environments. Sorry, no cats.

Wildlife and other Critters
There’s lots of nature outside your door! You might hear the coyote rounding calls at night, and there’s fox, hawks, and eagles cruising the property as well. There are beaver, mink, muskrat, and a variety of waterfowl that hang out at the lake. The raccoons and skunks as well as mice love your food and garbage, so please make sure you clean up after your picnics and keep a tight lid on the garbage can! We recommend putting all your food away in the home and to not leave anything out on the counters when done eating to ensure the mice leave your food alone.

Narrin Lake & Activities
There are numerous forested hiking paths throughout the farm and access to Narrin Lake from these trails as well. Narrin Lake is a private-access, spring-fed lake with no motorsports. There are parts that can be quite clear and deep (85') and other sections are marshland. All of the shoreline is natural. If you plan to play in or near the water, we recommend water shoes or other foot protection. There's a trail marked with green and white arrow signs that will lead you from the barn area to the dock access to the lake. From the dock you can fish (at your discretion if you purchase a fishing license), and wade out to the deeper, clear waters of the lake to swim. Just a heads up: we're in the process of renovating this area; we will notify you before your visit if there are any changes.

The Donkeys, Cow & Horses
