Overall we had a happy family reunion however there were unexpected problems that related to what we felt were misrepresentations of the property. The caretaker was able to guide us through minor logistical issues.
1. The description of the property did not inform us that two other houses back up to the same backyard. If those were occupied, we would have been sharing the pool and yard with strangers.
2. We were assured there was a first floor bedroom. What was not shared is that it was a double glass door off the living room and had bunk beds. One guest was over 80 years old and another has Parkinson's Disease. Bunk beds were totally unusable. I think it is implied that when someone asks for a first floor bedroom, it is due to limited mobility. Because the other two properties were not rented the host was able to accommodate these two adults in another house. We appreciate that they did so without additional charge.
3. The issue of most significant concern was evidence of mice. The first morning there was mouse turd on the kitchen counter as well as plastic bags of food that had been nibbled through. Subsequent days we did not leave any food on the counters but still found mouse turds on the counter and floor as well as shredded paper towels. We had three children under the age of five and felt this was unsanitary. We are certain that the host was aware of this issue because we discovered mousetraps behind the washer and dryer.
