Unfortunately, not as expected 😕
Genuine, honest review. We traveled to the area from out of state and were not familiar with the area (first visit to Maine). Upon arrival there were two women there cleaning so we had to sit in the driveway for 20+ minutes. Upon entry and by reading the owners notes in the welcome binder, it is a beautiful home with great owners. Unfortunately, it is not being maintained properly. Here is what we immediately observed...
1) Door knob was falling off (my husband found a tool to fix it)
2) Many areas were dirty or not operational (dishwasher didn't work, pizza on floor when opening fridge, grill in very poor/dirty condition, stove filthy with dirty pan inside, blind in dining area falling off (husband repaired), hot tub had dirty film on top so we did not use, lights out (husband found bulbs and replaced), lamp shade in living room broken/hanging off, wood fireplace area very dirty with debris, hot tub seating area in disarray (thankfully I thought to take photos).
3) It was never disclosed that the dock was removed and all items are laying across the back yard (if we were made aware lake was not acceptable we would have rented elsewhere).
4) It was also never disclosed that there are numerous cameras (as per VRBO's policy). We countered 4 (took photos) but I'm confident there are more (there are numerous electronic gadgets/wires throughout the home).
5) TV in master does not appear to work so we choose to sleep in the smaller guest room on the main level, which was not ideal (given how much we spent).
We understand and respect that the owners nor Vacasa can control the weather but should more detail/disclosure been provided we would not have rented this home. While it is beautiful and it does appear the owners care about their home, there is a great lack of attention to detail. Unfortunately, we spent 2 days stuck in the house and ultimately left a day early. We've rented through VRBO numerous times throughout the country with great success so this was very disheartening. We're just going to chuck this up to "you win some, you lose some". We still plan to rent through VRBO again in the future but I think Maine was a one and done for us. We can only hope the next person has a better experience.
*and just a side note, never rent a home with zero reviews..and be sure to do your homework!
