About this property

Victorian meets bohemian 2 blocks from downtown.

Park your car! Seriously. It's quicker to walk the 2 block to downtown than to find a parking spot there.

ACCOLADES: "Unbeatable location", "Wonderfully unique", "looks like a Brooklyn loft", "very big yard", are all accolades from recent guests.

DESCRIPTION: Recent renovations exposed original beams and found forgotten fireplaces in this c.1925 bungalow. Installed i-beams allowed interior walls to be removed creating an "open floor plan" and an industrial, Brooklyn loft look in what would have otherwise been an very segmented Victorian home. Upstairs 15" lofted ceilings and many windows flood the rooms with natural light. Moroccan hand-made tile, patinaed brass fixtures, rustic barn doors and are just a few of the details that make this an interesting space. Furnished with a mix of rustic antiques and casual modern furniture the place is comfortably unpretentious and easy to call home.

AMMENTITIES: Off-street parking provided. Blazing WiFi. Working first floor gas fireplace. Premium appliances: gas range, electric oven, air fryer/toaster, dishwasher & washer/dryer, smart TV. Furnished front and back porches and small patio with gas grill provide comfortable outdoor living spaces. Very large, double lot backyard is shared with the original carriage house (rented as a separate unit)

LOCATIONS: In the 400 yards between this bungalow and downtown you will transition from the storied, historic Montford neighborhood's treelined streets to bustling downtown's restaurants, bars, breweries and busking. The city's Hummingbird Park right across the street! Very walkable 2-4 blocks to the Civic Center, Whole Foods, Trader Joes and the urban greenway trail.

Enjoy the privacy of the whole house to yourself; no other attached units! 2 bedroom, 1.5 baths, 1400 sqft. (Backyard is shared with another unit).

Community regulations require 28 night minimum for stand-alone dwellings in this neighborhood.

NOTE: The staircase to the second floor is original to the 1925 building and has two 90degree turns which may be considered challenging for those with mobility concerns.

Absolutely wonderful house and host
It's hard to say enough good things about this beautiful house and fabulous host. The house is in a terrific location, just a couple of blocks from downtown. We walked everywhere--south into downtown and the River Arts District, east to the grocery stores on Merrimon, north into Montford, and even all the way up to UNCA for the Saturday morning farmers' market. The house has been extensively & beautifully remodeled and has everything you could need for a month in Asheville, including high-end appliances and every possible kitchen tool and implement. We especially appreciated the cozy convenience of the gas fireplace during our early-winter visit, and our dog appreciated the large fenced yard. The host, Scott, is extremely conscientious in taking care of the house, proactive in sharing information that guests might find helpful, generous in ensuring that guests are comfortable, and prompt & kind in responding to questions. Thanks for everything, Scott!

Cozy, stylish and convenient
My wife and I had a great visit to this lovely older home that has been stylishly renovated, located in the amazingly cool town of Asheville. The home itself is very comfortable, with a cozy two-sided fireplace in addition to two mini-split HVAC units (one on each floor). The beds on each bedroom were very good quality for a great nights sleep. The kitchen was perfect for our month-long stay.; it had everything we needed to cook we most of our meals, including every cooking gadget I needed, including dishware and glassware. All the appliances were clean and modern. The location is just about perfect; just a few blocks to Asheville’s city center, but tucked into historic neighborhood of Montford. We went on a long walk almost every day, because it is so conveniently located to downtown, plus all the beautiful North Asheville locations with easy access to the greenway. Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and Harris Teeter are just a few blocks away. We often did not even start our car at all for days on end. Our top-notch host Scott was extremely helpful and communicative; giving us great suggestions for the area, and checked in to make sure we were comfortable in the house as the fall weather became very chilly. I hesitate to give this positive of a review, because it may be hard to get a reservation in the future :-D (and we would love to return) but this place deserves a great review. Thanks Scott!

The ideal escape!
A cozy bungalow in a happening neighborhood just blocks from the bustling downtown of Asheville. Let’s start with the house: beautifully decorated, just as the photos show; perfectly equipped with everything we needed for living, working, cooking, relaxing. We enjoyed breakfasts on the back porch, grilling out, comfy couch, desk with large monitor. The Montford neighborhood: fun to wander among the 100-year-old homes, hills, a greenway path; dine at a handful of incredible restaurants; enjoy Shakespeare in the park; just blocks from Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Harris Teeter. Downtown: a 5-minute hike over the highway and you’re in the middle of shopping, dining, breweries, live music and the energy of crowds. We rarely used our car. A month wasn’t enough to fully explore and enjoy all Asheville has to offer. Scott and William are outstanding hosts. We can’t recommend this house enough!!

Loved it!
We enjoyed it so much we extended our stay and can't wait to come back! Can't say enough good things about this wonderful, warm and creatively designed home with a very large yard and about this welcoming city! Location is truly un-beatable. The hosts (William and Scott) gave great suggestions on what to do; where to visit; what trails to hike and great recommendations on restaurants, breweries and cocktail clubs. In addition to this beautiful house being in a very walkable location, it works extremely well for working from home; cooking and hosting great meals (Whole Foods is down the street); and while it offered us a nice escape it was also a wonderful home away from home.

Cool house & amazing location
Loved our stay in this newly renovated home nestled in a lovely neighborhood across from a little park and within a very short walking distance to downtown Asheville hotspots. We needed a place for a month so I could work remotely and enjoy Asheville with friends coming to visit on weekends. It felt both luxurious and cozy at the same time with its working fireplace downstairs and the modern kitchen, all new appliances and a bathroom with spa-like features. The quality linens made it feel extra fancy. The office/ desk space had great light and view of the large backyard. We enjoyed coffee on the back porch in the morning and cocktail in the front watching neighbors walk their dogs and go for evening strolls. There are loads of things in walking distance, including coffee shops, a cute neighborhood bar, and even a Whole Foods! We hated to leave and are planning our next stay. We love Asheville and adore this home away from home in the Montford neighborhood.

About the host

I live in both Asheville and Charleston, SC and recently completed renovation of this house for my use and to share with visitors to Asheville. A long time visitor to Western NC, I'm excited to finally call this home.

Why they chose this property

Suspend Judgement. Embrace curiosity.

There's an unusual, edgy vibe to this city. Yes. It has obvious and wonderful attributes: architecture, outstanding food and beer culture, hiking, art and artisans, rafting and ziplines all framed by the Blue Ridge Mountains.

But what IS less obvious are the wonderfully weird people that inhabit this place. (Is this where people hangout before the next Burning Man?) An oasis of hippie liberalism; replete with colorful characters, eclectic artisans, and bohemians of all stripes. You can be any version of yourself in this town... simply suspend judgement and embrace curiosity.

What makes this property unique

Dozens of restaurants and breweries only blocks away. Park across the street. A bit Victorian on the outside with an unexpected eclectic loft feel on the inside
