About this property

the "Granary" hosted by Marilyn and Larry

About this spacer
Although weathered and rustic on the outside the granary is very modern, warm and charming on the inside.
The Granary is located on a quiet residential street with a spectacular mountain view. We are 4 blocks east of main street in a quiet residential neighborhood .
This is an extremely laid back agricultural community with very little hustle and bustle.
The historic Manti Temple is about 8 blocks from the Granary.>
The space
According to a local historian “the Granary” has an interesting history. It was originally built in the very early days of Manti as the grain storage facility for the water-powered, overshot grist mill (flour mill) that was located on Manti Creek, just east of where the bank now stands. When the old mill was replaced by a larger mill with internal grain storage the granary was no longer needed. It was purchased and placed on large pine log skids and dragged to its present location by several teams of horses, well over 100 years ago. It was used for grain and coal storage as well as a place for storage of miscellaneous equipment such as harnesses, saddles and other items. The Granary is much larger than the standard size external stud granaries that were built around town and there are several still standing.
That first water powered mill has been reconstructed at This Is the Place State Park, just north of This Is the Place Monument in Salt Lake City.
When an unusual phenomenon occurred for this part of the country, a tornado, took a large portion of the roof off a few years ago, it was rebuilt with new sheeting and shingles. About the same time the old pine log skids underneath began to deteriorate and it developed a list to the east. We decided to save, preserve and modernize the old building. It was jacked up and a concrete footing plus the floor was installed beneath it. It was remodeled to its present condition, two bedrooms the bathroom and loft. Porches were added to the east and the south. Although a replica, the Jackson hay fork hanging on the south porch is a significant part of the history of the property.
Guest access
Off street parking is provided. Driveway is 100, feet long, 2 to 3 cars wide and can accommodate vehicles with trailers.
Other things to note
Manti Canyon is just a few blocks from the granary, very popular ATV area. Access to Skyline Drive is a short distance up the canyon.

Manti Eateries: Main Street Pizza - Miller's Drive Inn, Fast Food.

Manti Market: Very good selection of veges, meats and snack foods.

Jensen's Department Store: Nice store for a small town, good selection of merchandise.

Historic cabin

We enjoyed staying in this cute cabin in Manti so we could see the eclipse. The cabin was comfy and had everything we needed.

My family enjoyed staying at the Granary. The fireplace/heater added a nice warm ambience to a cold snowy day :) - The charming history and character of the Granary made it a perfect place to stay when we visited Manti.

Interesting building-very nicely renovated

As described, this old building has a lot of character, on the outside. Inside very well decorated with lots of light wood.

We love the charm of the Granary. The hosts were friendly and helpful. It was very clean but small. You need to be family or very good friends if you invite others to share the space with you. We enjoyed our stay here. We felt safe, and very comfortable.

Cute as can be. Decorated so adorable. Spotlessly clean. She thought of so many little details to make our stay a memorable experience. We will definitely stay again.

It Was All Good

The owners of this property are very responsive and take painstakingly good care of the place. Very comfortable. If you need to stay in Manti, and you are a small group (we are a family of 5), this is the place.

Very quiet, cozy little cabin like room. Bed was very comfortable, wish it was a king! TV big and nice. Nicely decorated. We didn’t use extra bedroom or loft, but if we’d brought our kids they would have loved it.

Listing is accurate

Very neat and unique accommodations. Place was clean, quiet, comfortable, easy to find, beds were great, host easy to deal with. Anyone looking should understand that one of the main beds is in the kitchen/LR area; for us not a big deal. We didn’t use the 2 smaller loft beds but they would work great for a family with kids. We got in late and left early, so this place did great for us. The town of Manti has limited amenities so understand that if you’re travelling here. But everyone we ran into and chatted up were very friendly and helpful. We wanted to stay out of the city, and in a unique, budget friendly clean VRBO; so this checked all the boxes.

Picturesque Manti, Utah, with its soaring castle like temple and 19th century Victorian style homes, felt like an ideal childhood home while staying at the Granary. Our family of four slept very comfortably. The two queens would have been enough, but one of our two daughters opted for one of the twins in the loft. A modern and effective a/c - heater unit kept us cool and out of the summer heat. Our hosts made us feel welcome with bottled water in the small fridge and packets of hot cocoa for breakfast (and coffee and tea, for those who prefer). WiFi worked very well, with both daughters able to stream and chat and whatever else they wanted. The space is tight, and every square foot is utilized for some amenity to meet guests’ every need, but it works and we loved to relax here. There is a picnic table just outside the door, and we enjoyed sitting and enjoying the outdoors. There is nothing sweeter than the smell of a summer rain in this rural, central Utah town. We’ll be back.
