About this property
Mountain Top Cabin Refuge
Come relax and enjoy "The Caboose"; a cozy, rustic, all log cabin built in 1959 and renovated in 2022. Stay in and just relax or go outside and play in God's country. Located at 33 Upper Road, just 40 minutes West of beautiful Laramie, Wyoming.
Small two bedroom (1 bedroom, 1 large loft with ladder), very comfortable size for 1 family. The loft, see pictures, has shorter railings so isn't ideal for small children.
The cabin is nestled up to Medicine Bow National Forest with millions of acres of recreational opportunities which include but are not limited to:
- Groomed, marked and maintained snowmobile trails. Approx. 1/2-mile drive to trial head. Maps available online or at local forest service office.
- An old railroad bed turned bike trail "Rails to Trails". Approx. 3-mile drive to trial head. Maps available online or at local forest service office.
- 2 nearby historic Bar/restaurants... 1. Wycolo bar and restaurant is approximately 2 miles West on hwy. 230 with the groomed trail leading there in the winter months.
2. Historic Woods Landing is about a 10 min. drive back down the mountain towards Laramie with great food, good people and a dance floor.
- Mountain streams, ponds and small lakes for fishing. Close to Miller Lake, Lake Owen and Rob Roy Reservoir.
- Hunting of all kinds
- Atv, utv trails, 4x4 trails and countless roads to explore.
- Hiking, Geocaching, exploring some of the historic mining camps/towns.
****Please be advised (see map photo in pictures), the cabin is only accessible by conventional vehicles from June-December. The remainder of the year, the caboose is an easy 0.5-mile walk, snowshoe, snowmobile, cross country ski etc. trip in from a very large parking lot that is plowed all winter. Snowstorms are not always predictable and may last days. The lot is plowed within 24 hours of every storm, but four-wheel drive vehicles are highly advised.
Due to mountain roads being impassable during winter months Snowy Range ski area is a 1 hour drive from the Caboose cabin. Skiers would have to drive 30 miles back down towards Laramie on hwy 230 and take Big Hallow cut across, then 30 minutes West on hwy 130 to get to the Ski area. It is closer to stay in Laramie or Centennial.
