Nice villa in a central location
This was a great property for our family of 4 during Easter Week at Casa de Campo. Our host was extremely responsive to questions I asked before and during the stay. Our chef/housekeeper, Pati, was such a friendly, sweet person who really knows how to make an excellent breakfast! And the place was spotless. Back patio was a very relaxing environment with trees and bushes in full bloom and a decent view of the golf course.
Location was very good as well. About 10 minutes from Minitas Beach (by golf cart) and also about 10 minutes from the Casa de Campo hotel where we could use the pools and swim-up bar. I rented the golf cart through the host for a price less than the going rate on the island. That said, we found our cart to be slower than many others on the island (both electric and gas) so you might find it worth paying a little extra for a faster cart.
Please make sure you note there is a fee of $25/person/day to stay on the resort property and use their amenties (including some that still had additional fees). This was included in the listing, but it's easily missed and is not a small amount of money for a one-week stay.
My two complaints:
1. The housekeeper/chef spoke NO English so communication about meals and other things was very difficult. I don't mean to be insensitive here....I realize WE were the visitors and Spanish is THEIR native language, but we had to rely on an online translator and our family's limited Spanish. It would be helpful if the host could provide a list of standard questions people might want to ask so we can easily point to those (e.g. "What meals do you like to make?", "What time will you be here tomorrow?" etc.)
2. The TV channels are very limited. The primary TV in the living room had only streaming options (e.g. Netflix, etc.) and our U.S.-based account did not work in another country. The bedroom TV had to be auto-programmed and in that case it found 20+ channels, but only two in English. Friends of ours in other properties had more options through basic cable, including several English-speaking networks. This did not prevent us from having a great trip and a great experience at Casa de Campo (we didn't go there to watch TV anyway), but for the amount we paid to stay for the week it would have been nice at the end of the day to have some TV options.
All in all, I recommend this property and this host. We hope to return to the area again someday.
