Views!! Jetted-Tub, Backyard Snow Sledding, King Bed, Shuffleboard, Generator
WELCOME Welcome to the cabin with best views in all of Arnold. This bright and open-feeling luxury home is nestled near the peaks of the Sierra Mountains. We have an unobstructed 80-mile views of the North Fork Stanislaus River valley. We have no cabins behind us. Instead, we have miles of open forest to hike and enjoy. We also have a great hillside for sledding where we provide 4-6 sleds and saucers for our guests to enjoy. You can watch the kids build snowmen or sled down the hill while you enjoy a glass of wine by the wood burning stove. During the summer time, enjoy a BBQ meal on the deck, or engage in a game of shuffleboard, or cozy up around the wood burning stove, or soak in the oversized jetted tub. Your stay at Pine View Lodge will be pleasantly quiet as we are located on a quiet road with virtually no neighbors in view. There are many nearby places of interest to visit for family entertainment and exploration such as Big Trees State Park (5 min), Stanislaus River (11 min), Moaning Caverns (25), Bear Valley (25 min), and Lake Alpine (30 min).. Or, you can simply enjoy the views and surrounding beauty without ever leaving the property. The home is equipped with an all-house generator, ensuring there won't be any interruption of your family vacation from power outages due to wind storms, downed power lines, or snow storms.
Further adventures await as this property is only minutes from quaint towns, wineries, rivers, lakes, and ski resorts.
HANDICAP FRIENDLY We are one of only a handful of properties having no stairs to navigate to the front door. The driveway pulls right up to the front door. There is a queen room on the entry-level floor making it easy to enjoy the house without climbing stairs. Access to the great views from the backyard deck also requires no stairs or steps. The house is handicap and wheelchair friendly. Elderly individuals will find the home easy to navigate and enjoyable to vacation in.
KITCHEN The kitchen is larger than most cabin kitchens making it easy to cook large meals and serve large families. The kitchen is stocked with pots, pans, cookware, baking pans, and spices. We have the following kitchen items: rice cooker, crock pot, waffle maker, electric griddle, cast iron pans, frying pans, roasting pans, medium and large pots, strainers, drip coffee maker, coffee grinder, toaster, microwave, dishwasher, oven, and stove,
OUTDOOR BACK DECK There is also an outdoor propane BBQ for those who want to BBQ while taking in the great views. Full set of BBQ utensils are provided.
KING ROOM The King Room is situated upstairs with its own private balcony looking out over the forest tree tops giving an unobstructed 50-mile view down the Stanislaus Valley. The room is decorated in a fly fishing theme and features antique bamboo fly rods and a 4' x 6' stained glass window of the Stanislaus river valley. The indoor sitting area allows you sip your first cup of coffee while taking in the great views. Or, if the weather is agreeable, you can sit out on the balcony to also enjoy the great pine aroma. The upstairs bathroom has dual sinks, additional counter space, large glass shower, and an oversized jetted-tub.
QUEEN ROOM The Queen Room is downstairs with its own bathroom and may appeal to either older or handicapped individuals who want to avoid climbing stairs. The bathroom is next to the Queen room.
EVENING ACTIVITIES During the evenings you can gather around the outside fire pit to listen to the crackling fire for making family memories. Or, if the weather dictates, gather inside around the wood-burning stove and sip hot chocolate. There are also board games and toys for the kids to enjoy.
WI-FI and DIGITAL MEDIA Our Wi-Fi runs at 450+ GB/sec. You can use the private desk area to catch-up on last minute work items or download your favorite movies or songs. We also have a new LG Smart TV & DVD player with a wide selection of movies for kids, families, or adults. Most movies are rated either G or PG. Recently, we added an Xbox system. Please be sure to bring your own Xbox discs.
SNOW SEASON There is no need to pack up the car and travel somewhere to enjoy the snow. During the snow season, many families stay at the home and use the sloping backyard hillside to build their own sled runs. During the snow season of 2023, the sled run was more than 100 feet long. Kids and parents enjoyed it immensely. We have many sleds and saucers available for use for free. There is a mud-room where snow-covered kids can change into warmer clothes without trampling snow and debris throughout the cabin.
POOL - GAMES - ETC We also belong to the Big Trees Village HOA (3 minutes away) where you have access to swimming pools, Foosball, pong pong, shuffleboard, billiards, air hockey etc. Check times and seasons for when they are open. (The HOA is open from Memorial Day till Labor Day)
WHEN IT'S TIME When its time to book a get-a-way, we hope you choose The Pine View Lodge. I always have a complimentary bottle of wine on the counter awaiting your arrival just to say "Welcome".
Warm Regards, Gary and Cathy

Another great stay here! Gary is a great host and always makes sure you’re taken care of. This time we drove to bear valley adventure instead of Sno Park and the kids loved it! It was only a 5 min difference

Hi Katrina,
I'm so glad you and the family had another memorable stay. Thanks for being great guests and taking care of the home. You and the family are always welcome here.
Gary’s place was amazing from start to finish. He was always very helpful and responsive. The house was spotless, cozy, and incredibly comfortable. We spent Christmas there and had a wonderful time—everything felt clean, warm, and welcoming. We’d love to come back again!

Hi Erica,
You brought your dog even though you knew that pets were not allowed. You notified me that you were bringing your dog on day you arrived. That was highly deceptive. Then you told me you left the place in good condition but the cleaners who I work with had a much different opinion. Then, trying to pass your dog off as a service animal was a another form of deception.
It appears that your dog tore up one of our pillows and then someone hid it which my next guests found.
I have hosted over 100 families and this event ranks at the bottom.
Beautiful place to stay! Loved it much. Thanks so much Gary. Will see you again at the cabin!

Dear Sandra & Sam,
Thank you for the nice review. I am so glad you were able to catch all those fish in the Stanislaus river.
I came to the cabin the day that you left and I was astonished at how clean you made the cabin for the cleaning team. It was so special to find someone that really took great care of this home. I will post more fishing information in our welcome binder and I hope it will add to even greater success for your next fishing adventure.
You are welcome back here anytime because of how well you took care of the home.
All the best,
Gary.
We had a wonderful time staying at this rental. It is quiet, comfortable, and relaxing. Great views from the back of the house. Definitely will book again!

We are so pleased that you and the family had a wonderful stay. The weather was perfect for a winter wonderland vacation.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cabin. Having visited the Arnold area many times, I know that cabins vary in quality, cleanliness, serenity, and overall experience. This is definitely one of the best properties in the area. Gary is a very attentive host, and I can tell he cares about his guest’s experience. His instructions for check-in were timely and clear. We arrived to a the lightly curated welcome basket with selected treats and drinks. The cabin stocks many thoughtful touches - an array of games, videos, and other entertainment options; a “free to share” shelf with a few food staples such as salt, pepper, and oil, comfortable beds and bedding. What stood out most, however was the endless forest view with no back yard neighbors and the absolute quiet of the property. We could hear distant bird songs echo through the hills for many seconds. I can recommend this property without hesitation.

Dear Michael,
Thank you for the detailed and positive review of your stay. I'm so glad that you enjoyed all of the amenities that are there as I work diligently to continually improve how the guests enjoy their stay.
I loved how you noted how quiet that property is. Sometimes, the only thing I can hear is the lite breeze coming through the trees.
I'm also glad that you enjoyed the special bottle of wine that I provided.
I look forward to your eventual return, as most of my guests are now repeat visitors.
Take care, Gary

Very relaxing neighborhood, perfect location for what we were looking to do. We visited the Big Trees state park only a few miles away, Tahoe and Lake Alpine.. the small towns along Hwy 4 were fun to visit also. Highly recommend!

Dear Ryan,
Cathy and I are so happy that the cabin met your expectations for your family getaway. The small towns are fun to visit, especially downtown Murphys. They have unique restaurants ("Rob's Place" is my favorite) and between 7-10 wine tasting places all within walking distance.
Safe travels home!

We had the best time at the cabin over the holidays. It was perfect for our two families with young kids. Gary was a super communicative, friendly host. We really appreciated how well stocked the kitchen was for cooking, the entire house was incredibly clean, and the kids loved the extensive game collection. It was a cozy, comfortable retreat with beautiful views, and we hope to visit again in the future!

Thanks for the kind review and we hope you can enjoy it again next year.

We appreciated the location close to the state park. The neighborhood is very quiet. Interior finishes a little worn and could be refreshed. The bed in the master was very comfortable. The recliner couch in the living room was wonderful too.

Hi Marjon,
It was a pleasure hosting your family. I also enjoy coffee on the deck looking out on the views.
Over these last two weeks I had some tree service done which opened up the views even more.
Then I removed a few tree stumps to make the hillside for snow sledding even better.
I hope you can come for the winter wonderland views and snow sledding.
All the best!
Gary
this spot was fabulous. The architecture, the amenities, the special touches all made it a place that I told my husband, "I want to live here!" Gary was attentive and the place was stocked with things far beyond "needs" and well into luxuries. Even a Radio Flyer sled for winter folks. And so close to Big Trees and Murphy's. Loved it!

This house is beautiful, well - maintained, and very clean. It has a layout that really lends itself to a group (around five people). The kitchen is well equipped and spacious. There is a nice size dining table, comfortable and inviting living room. The bedrooms are really nice and comfortable. The bathrooms are great and The view is lovely. This is the kind of place you search for on VRBO. An amazing setup, encumbered views of the mountains, and really a great cabin feel for me and 2 children(6-12 years old). Perks include access to a pool and rec area at the neighborhood center, but lots of great games, movies and chill out space. Gary was a delight and wealth of info on fishing the Stanislaus, as well an amazing welcome for my kids and myself. 10 stars! Very clean , easy checkin and great amenities.

Thanks for leaving a few fish in the river for my next guests. 💓
We hope youll make this a regular visit.
All the best,
Gary
We had a wonderful stay in Gary’s beautiful cabin. We felt so welcome in their home and Gary was extremely communicative when we were caught in a huge snowstorm ( 100 inches in a matter of days! ), always checking in on us and making sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable. While most of the area was out of power, and including water for some, we were so grateful to have the seamless backup generator, that kept us warm, well lit, and well connected to internet through it all. The cabin itself is very spacious, has spectacular views, and all the amenities (from the kitchen to games to sleds) that family’s could ever want. The backyard is a perfect playground for snow play and sledding down a big safe hill and looking out onto the national forrest without a house in sight is unbeatable. We are so excited to come back to this winter wonderland another time and to also visit in the summer. Thank you for a magical, memorable vacation!

Dear Quinn and family,
It was a real pleasure to host you during the biggest snowstorm I can remember.
I am so thankful that you were able to stay warm in cozy, along with having unlimited wifi, where your family could have one of the most enjoyable and magical vacations ever.
Let's do this again, but with slightly less snow.
By the way, your snowman was the best snowman of 2026. ⛄️
We loved every minute of our stay. Easy check in. Well Equipped. Great views! Felt like home. We visited the Calaveras State Park. Definitely check that out when you are there. The dining area is a great place to hang out and play games after dinner. The living room is also super cosy and comfortable. I would stay there again in a heartbeat! Thank you, Gary!

Dear Rachna,
Thank you for the kind review. Yes, Big Trees State Park is a "must visit" location when you come up here, whether Summer or Winter.
I also like looking out on the forest while eating dinners.
I hope you can make it back for another visit, whether it be in the snowy winter time or in the comfortable summer time.
Take care, Gary
We picked this location because of the backyard sledding, unfortunately Mother Nature had other plans but we still got plenty of snow play at Spicer Sno-Park which was 15 min away. The kids loved every minute we were there and we wanted for nothing, the cabin had everything we needed. The host was so sweet and provided so much information for us

Dear Katrina,
It's a joy to hear of your great vacation experience at this cabin. Typically, by this time of the year, there's alot of snow for sledding and making snowmen. I'm glad Spicer SNO Park met the need for playing in the snow. I always have snow sleds and saucers under the deck so you can use them here or wherever you go to play in the snow.
Thank you for taking good care of the property. It was also a joy to hear your family played so many of the board and card games. That's fun!
Thanks for the nice things you wrote in the guest journal.
Take care,
Gary
About the host
Hosted by Gary
My wife and I live in South San Jose and absolutely love to get out of the bay area to the trees and rivers that adorn the Arnold and Dorrington area. We love hosting other families to enjoy the excellent mountain views and towering tree lines surrounding the cabin.
I am an avid fisherman so I took this opportunity to decorate the master bedroom in a fly-fishing theme. My wife decorated the lower bedroom to appeal to a softer demeanor. Both rooms are pleasant and comfortable.
Why they chose this property
This neighborhood is situated at the top of the mountain providing 50-mile views of the Stanislaus national forest and neighboring snow-covered mountains. This special property is a perimeter lot where it borders the national forest, creating unobstructed views with few neighbors. The other cabins are far enough away to give you a feeling of privacy and solitude.
What makes this property unique
Most driveways in the area are steep and typically one-way, making it difficult and sometimes dangerous navigating it in the snow or rain. Our pull-thru driveway is flat and pulls straight up to the front door. This means you pull in from one direction and drive forward out to the main road. You'll be thankful that there is no need to back-up down a steep driveway. You'll also be glad that there are no stairs to climb as you unload your car and carry your luggage into the home. The street has little to no traffic. This makes it safe for children and adults, alike. Special care was take designing this home, ensuring a great number of windows to let in natural light and the beautiful surroundings. A most noteworthy design element is the 6' x 4' stained-glass window in the master bedroom, designed by a local artist depicting the Stanislaus River and forest. It is a one-of-a-kind work of art.
The sloped backyard is perfect for sledding. Every snow season, families staying at the cabin have commented that they prefer to build a sled run going down the backyard slope rather than pile in the car and head up Hwy-4 where the crowds gather to play in the snow. From the cabin, you can sit by the fire and drink coffee while watching the kids play in the snow from the living room window. There is a master bedroom balcony that provides even better views.
The loft has the very popular shuffleboard table, a game table for playing board games or coloring or putting together puzzles, and a plethora of board games.
Downstairs: We added a new 50" LG Smart TVand DVD player for gathering the family together to view movies and eat popcorn. There are over 60 movies to choose from (Disney movies, Action & Adventue, Kid's Animation movies, Romance & Chick flicks, and Comedy movies).
In 2024, we added an outdoor fire pit for roasting marshmallows with the kids and grandparents.
Or, relax in the jetted-tub located in the master bathroom.
