About this property

Mountaintop Respite Overlooking Vineyards: Pool & Spa - 2-4 Guests

Mountaintop Respite Overlooking Vineyards

You could be in Tuscany atop this 10-acre, private and modern sanctuary, nestled in the heart of Dry Creek Valley of Sonoma County with sweeping vineyard and mountain views, 20 minutes from the Healdsburg town square; we return 3 years after tending to a recovery and restoration.

Arriving at the property, you drive up the hill and take in the striking architecture. The floating metal and glass structure upon board-formed, concrete walls, hints at the modern interior – rich materials, color and art. Inside you'll find the breathtaking, all-encompassing views from every space – vineyards that wrap the immediate hills, and the mountains in the distance, hawks that hover in the updrafts of the valley below. Expansive window and door openings seamlessly blend indoor/outdoor living.

Your day begins by waking up to the sun rising over the vineyards to the East; enjoy coffee on the patio as the soft morning sunlight gives way to rising sun and warmth of the day. If you can pull yourself away from the sanctuary of our hilltop, the town square of Healdsburg is filled with great restaurants, art galleries, shopping and entertainment. 160+ wineries reside within the Dry Creek Valley, with additional wineries nearby in either the Alexander Valley or Russian River Valley.

When you find your favorite, local libation(s), purchase and retreat to settle in for an afternoon swim and nap, followed by a BBQ and sunset viewing upon the vineyards. Evenings are meant for leisurely meals and wine on the terrace, while you enjoy how the light changes to the East as the sun sets in the West. Nighttime brings dark skies and an unimaginable sky filled with stars, planets and constellations.

In between the house, the pool/spa and pool house, rests the remnant of a structure, kept purposefully as a ruin, not unlike what one may discover in Italy. The foundation and remnants of steel and concrete reveal the emergence of a re-imagined function - a garden ruin; it's an evolving design yet to be settled, oriented East to the vineyard views - lounge for morning coffee or evening cocktails, or a respite from the full sun after an afternoon swim.

Our home is a quiet, peaceful retreat, best suited for individuals, couples, or sharing among individual friends and/or couples. Whether you become still upon the view of a sunrise, sunset, or full moon, each experience reveals the vineyards close up and personal, sustained by Mother Nature’s touch to protect, heal and demonstrate a resilience of the surrounding redwoods; it gives one pause.

A Serene Escape to Celebrate Love and Health
Our two-day retreat at this gorgeous mountaintop respite was pure magic. Nestled amidst vineyards, the villa provided an idyllic sanctuary for our party of four, celebrating a 28th anniversary and joyous health news. Every moment was treasured in this haven of tranquility. The property's two bedrooms and bathrooms offered unparalleled privacy and comfort, ideal for two couples. Mesmerizing views of the surrounding nature and vineyards enchanted our senses, enhanced by the suspenseful drive up the mountain to this hidden gem. The pool and spa provided invigorating relaxation, enhancing the serene ambiance. Our new motto is "two laps, one sip" - Thanks Alan! From dawn till dusk, we basked in nature's beauty, sharing heartfelt conversations and laughter amidst rolling hills and vineyards. The accommodations were flawless, earning top marks in every aspect. Save your trip into Healdsburg for the front or the backend of your stay for you will want to soak in every moment at this property. Special thanks to Alan, our gracious host, whose warm welcome and attention to detail ensured a seamless experience. For those seeking a rejuvenating escape with loved ones, this property is an absolute gem. We eagerly anticipate our next visit to this slice of paradise, where cherished memories await.

Lovely Time
My wife and some close friends scheduled a significant birthday retreat at Alan's property and we had a lovely time. The views from the main guest house are stunning and beautiful. The finishes of the home are luxurious and lovely. We unfortunately had a rainy weekend, so couldn't enjoy the the exterior amenities, which were lovely, but I must say the celebration was well framed and enjoyed in this lovely location in a very special home away from home.

Spectacular place!
This rental is absolutely gorgeous, with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding rural Sonoma Valley area. It affords many opportunities to sit and enjoy the magnificent vistas in multiple directions. The buildings are strikingly beautiful with outstanding design elements, comfortable and attractive furniture, lovely art, and every amenity you could possibly want (for example - kitchen appliances, tools, dishes; personal care products in the bathrooms; storage closets and drawers; good lighting; extra towels, pillows, and blankets; washer/dryer/laundry soap; adjustable thermostats, etc). The owner was exceptionally responsive, accommodating, and went way above and beyond to welcome us in person and with special touches including flowers, a bottle of local wine and delicious cupcakes to help us celebrate a significant birthday. He could not have been nicer or more gracious! We look forward to returning to this extraordinary rental property in the future.

About the host

One Sunday afternoon, my partner and I were at the West Portal movie theater in San Francisco and I was pouring through the “Real Estate Times” rag during previews when I saw a picture of THAT view; I said to Jonathan that if the “real view” was anything like the picture, that’s a sweet property.

The next weekend, I visited friends in Sonoma County and I drove up to the property just in time for the sunrise; it was a quiet, tearful moment, one that I will never forget. The very next day, I asked Jonathan to return with me, and 2 months later, we owned the property! This was November 2002.

As an architect (Jonathan) and designer (Alan), our design process took a few years to settle upon a “final” master plan. We have been very clear from the onset to pursue the project, specifically, that we create a sanctuary for whomever we had the pleasure to share our home with. It is with a heartfelt invitation that we hope you have an experience, privately or collectively, that nurtures and sustains your spirit: welcome.

Why they chose this property

Location, Location, Location!!!

Whether you find yourself on the town square, or within the surrounding landscapes of our region, you will feel inspired. Healdsburg is an intimate community, whose warmth is expressed through it's citizens and the fine restaurants, art galleries, coffee shops, one-of-a-kind shops and of course, wineries.

As for our specific property, the privacy and views are unparalleled. While we might take credit for the design of the house, Mother Nature prevails. During the day, indoor/outdoor living will connect you to nature, and nurture your spirit; night time will deliver an intimate close-up of the stars, moon and planets.

What makes this property unique

Private, intimate, with close-up views of rolling hills with vineyards, where structures are designed with a simple, warm-modern aesthetic.
