Casa Khoisan - Cozy Romantic Jungle Casita with Ocean Views near Santa Teresa

Casa Khoisan — A Romantic Jungle Hideaway with Ocean Views near Santa Teresa

Escape to the peaceful embrace of the jungle at Casa Khoisan — a thoughtfully designed one-bedroom casita tucked away in the lush hills just a few minutes from the beach, cafés, restaurants, and surf shops of Santa Teresa.
Here, you’re surrounded by nothing but virgin jungle, ocean views, and the sounds of tropical wildlife. From the heights of the floating deck, there are no neighboring houses in sight — just pure nature and tranquility. Wake to the call of howler monkeys, spot white-faced monkeys playing in the trees, and listen to toucans, parrots, and colorful tropical birds as butterflies drift through the warm air.

A Home Designed with Intention and Heart
Casa Khoisan is a cozy and stylish retreat — romantic, serene, and crafted with attention to detail. The floating deck stretches out over the jungle canopy, offering sweeping jungle and ocean views with unforgettable sunsets. It’s the perfect place to lounge in the hammock chair with a good book, sip your morning coffee, or share a glass of wine at golden hour.
Inside, the open-concept living space blends modern comfort with natural beauty. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need — a full-size oven and gas stove, fridge, blender, coffee maker, toaster, rice cooker, baking trays, drinking water filter, and more. A handcrafted bar with accordion-style windows opens from the kitchen to the balcony, creating a seamless inside–outside dining experience. Guests love enjoying breakfast here, working remotely, or simply soaking up the view.
The living room’s custom L-shaped couch was designed using two individual mattresses — perfect for lounging during the day or accommodating extra guests at night. Casa Khoisan sleeps up to four guests comfortably: a queen bed in the bedroom and two single mattresses in the living room — ideal for couples, small families, or close friends.

Outdoor Living at Its Best
One of the most-loved features of Casa Khoisan is its open-air bathroom and outdoor shower — a private garden oasis where you can bathe under the sky, surrounded by tropical plants and jungle sounds. Guests consistently rave about this unique and magical feature in their reviews.
The casita is fully air-conditioned with two A/C units (one in the living area and one in the bedroom) for maximum comfort. Outside, you’ll find a dining table for four, a hammock chair for lazy afternoons, and plenty of space to breathe and unwind.

Immersed in Nature, Close to Everything

Host profile image
Hi! My name is Jonathan, your host. Here is a bit about me.. I was born in the Philippines as a US citizen to an expat American father and Malaysian mother. My childhood was nomadic due to my father's profession with humanitarian aid. Places we called home included East and West Africa, India, NYC, Indonesia, and finally Thailand where I finished high school in 1993.

Subsequently my adult life was spent doing random work/study and wandering in any place that kept my fancy from Yosemite to Paris, but always based mainly in San Diego, California where my family eventually settled and currently resides.

My eventual profession as a private chef on luxury yachts first brought me to Costa Rica in 2009 when I took a few days off the boat to surf in Santa Teresa. I immediately fell in love with the wild natural beauty of this place and after many return visits and purchasing the property in 2013, I finally settled here permanently in 2017 to build our home and live the simple life close to nature with my wife, Chantelle, who is from Cape Town, South Africa.

So after a lifetime of traveling, with gracious hosts opening their doors for me, I feel that it's now my turn to return that hospitality. It's been a real pleasure to host fellow travelers exploring Costa Rica, and doing my best to make them feel comfortable and at home in their own private space. We also love hearing the stories of other people's travel, experiences and adventures. Pura Vida.🙏🏼

Why they chose this property

We chose to live in our location because it is surrounded by nature in a quiet peaceful and safe neighborhood with a strong sense of community. We are on the top of a ridge of hills embedded in the jungle with views of the ocean and gentle breezes from all around.
Downtown Santa Teresa has become quite busy in recent years so we appreciate living in this environment of nature and tranquility while the most beautiful beach in the area is only a quick 5 minute drive away, along with a grocery store, and a few nice restaurants.

What makes this property unique

Our property is in Santiago, an up and coming, desirable neighborhood in the hills overlooking the Santa Teresa area. Most long time residents of Santa Teresa have bought property here to be surrounded by nature and escape the growing population of town. We have also been one of the first residents to buy property in this neighborhood over 10 years ago with a large piece of land in a special and prized location. Being on the top of the ridge also brings cooler temperatures and great views, and we are only a 5 minute drive to the most beautiful beach in the area.
On the property, we have many fruit trees that frequently attract wildlife like exotic birds and monkeys, as well as a walking trail that leads through the property to a small river that has a waterfall in the rainy season located in a private and beautiful natural setting.
