About this property
Best Waterfront View in Jacksonville, NC
The River House is a beautiful three story townhome on the New River in Jacksonville, North Carolina set up for eight guests. Balconies on the 2d and 3d decks provide spectacular views of the river. The property has three bedrooms and four full baths, along with a spacious first floor office/bedroom and porch. The large master bedroom on the 3d floor looks out over the river through sliding glass doors. A porch opens up off the master bedroom and has a bistro table and chairs; fun for romantic alfresco dining. There are also two loungers on the porch. The master has a dual shower head, dual sink set up and also has views of the river. As well, the third deck guest bedroom with a full sized bunk bed, and a twin pull out, is perfect for little ones or adults. The adjoining bathroom has a large soaking tub. Nearby is a full laundry room with washer and dryer. The second floor bedroom is spacious and has an adjoining shower/tub set up. The 2d floor is an open floor plan which provides great river views from the kitchen and family room. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a large attached breakfast bar. There is seating for up to 8 at the large table in the family room which also has a collection of board games in the table cabinet. The tall seating allows for river views while eating. The large sofa makes out into a queen bed and there is a large arm chair with a foot stool to relax in. The television sits atop the electric fire place which also contains a large selection of dvd and blue ray disks. Streaming services are available on the television. Complementary wifi is available throughout the house. The family room’s large sliding glass doors open up to another deck with a love seat, two chairs and tables. The first floor done in “Day at the Beach” color, and provides a separate office/bedroom which has its own bathroom with a shower. There is a desk, desk chair, television, dvd/blue ray player, stereo and large sofa with coffee table to make the room very cozy. Just off the office is yet another porch looking out to the river which boasts rocking chairs and a table. The front yard runs down to the New River and has room for picnicking at the large table, a great place for cooking out on the gas grill or playing a game of corn-hole or bocce ball, which are available to our guests. It might be nice to walk out on the dock with a couple folding chairs to watch sunset. It is a truly beautiful setting, accompanied by a large, well maintained 3 story town house on the river. The location is great too. Within 400 yards is a 72 trailer boat ramp with trailer parking. Just across the river from the house (one mile by car) is the Jacksonville Town Marina where slips are available for rent. Located very near highway 17, the River House is in a very convenient location, just a short drive to several grocery stores and within 10 minutes of just about all the best things in Jacksonville, including the beautiful and solemn Memorial Gardens where our heroes from Beirut, Vietnam, WW II and 9/11 are memorialized. Your hosts, having just retired from 10 years of charter cruising, know and will provide a lot of information about the many interesting things to do within a one to one and a half hour driving radius. This is a great place for your family to relax and soak in the beauty of the New River.

About the host
Hosted by John Ledoux

Marilyn and I are originally from Florida, we were high school sweethearts, now married for nearly 5 decades. In our over 30 years in the Marines we did 3 tours here in Jacksonville and retired in 2007. Jacksonville was Marilyn's favorite place we had lived in all our duty stations. This included 18 moves, a tour in Hawaii and 3 tours in California. We stayed here in Jacksonville because it is a beautiful place, near water, beaches, interesting cities, battlefields and history. After working for the Marines as a contractor for several years Marilyn and I decided to charter our yacht. We had a wonderful ten years hosting folks from all over the country on our beautiful yacht, the Bayonet. Many Marines of all ranks and their families cruised with us, as well as guests who had never been to Jacksonville before. More wedding proposals then we could keep track of were made on the boat. We had to give up cruising after 10 years. We were very proud to have served our community and felt we gave something special to Jacksonville. We were the top rated outdoor activity in the area. We recently decided to transition our beautiful 3 story townhome, which was our office for Bayonet Cruises, to a vacation rental so we could continue to enhance our local community and bless others who come to visit.
Why they chose this property
The New River is the most beautiful thing about Jacksonville, NC. Our riverfront property is located on one of the most scenic spots. The "River House" is also conveniently located to highway 17 or Marine Blvd. which makes it easy to get around anywhere. Downtown Jacksonville is a mile away, the City Marina and 72 trailer boat ramp are less than a 5 minute drive. All major local shopping and eateries on Western Blvd are less than a 15 minute drive. The shopping on Yopp Road is maybe 10 minutes. All the Marine bases are 10 to 20 minutes away. The beautiful and solemn Lejeune Memorial Gardens are about 10 minutes away with tributes to our Vietnam Veterans, Beirut Memorial, Montford Point Memorial, Corpsmen Memorial, 9/11 Memorial and future home of the Museum of the Marine and Al Grey Civic Center. With a sort drive south guests can be at Top Sail Beach, historic Wilmington or beautiful Wrightsville Beach. Civil and Revolutionary War battle grounds are not far form Wilmington. Headed a short distance north are the waterfront towns of Swansboro and Beaufort. Just a bit further is the Cape Lookout National Seashore including the wild horses at Shackleford Banks. Nearby are forts, aquariums, museums and any manner of water adventures. There is a lot to explore using the River House as a base of operations.
