Perched up on a hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean, this quiet home in Shelter Cove is a place to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of California's storied Lost Coast. Enjoy a deck that wraps around the house, providing you with gorgeous views of the water and incredible nightly sunsets.

This home sits in the heart of Shelter Cove, a tiny community on the remote and wild Lost Coast of Humboldt County. As the southern terminus of the Lost Coast Trail, Shelter Cove is a wonderful retreat for backpackers before or after their journey through the King Range National Conservation Area. You'll be only half a mile from Cove Beach, three-quarters of a mile from the Cape Mendocino Lighthouse at Shelter Cove, and a mile and a half from the Black Sands Beach Trailhead.

Begin each morning with coffee outside on the deck, breathing in the salty sea air and watching for passing whale spouts on the horizon. Inside, you'll find everything you need to prepare breakfast in the kitchen, including full-size appliances and a breakfast bar.

After a day of adventures, return to your home away from home and relax in the hammock with your favorite beach read. Gather around the telescope and see if you can spot any whales! As the evening winds down, take in the magnificent sunset and stargaze from the deck.

The home is simply furnished but equipped with every essential, including a washer/dryer for your swimsuits and hiking clothes, and a large smart TV to screen your favorite movies. Challenge your family to a game night with one of the provided board games.

Additional amenities include WiFi, a yoga mat, and beach towels.

Fantastic House with a Million Dollar View
Our family of three stayed for a few days during the Thanksgiving break at the Sea Escape at Spruce Overlook. The first thing we noticed was the spectacular almost 180 degree view of the ocean. Actually, my favorite thing to do was each morning to take my cup of coffee out on the deck and just spend some relaxing moments listening to the distant waves & the birds and watching the deer go by. The house itself is very clean, cozy and charmingly decorated. The kitchen is well equipped with all kitchen tools to even make a Thanksgiving dinner :-), the beds are comfortable and the bathroom is tidy and clean. Below is a great big room with a foosball table, darts and various other games. It has a cozy nook with a giant TV and a super comfy couch. My teenager was in heaven! The spot is very quiet and we all got a couple of good night sleeps. We will definitely come back!

This little house has so much going fir it, I would love to own it myself! The location of this home is perfect for Shelter Cove as it’s up high enough for panoramic views, private enough you don’t feel squeezed between other vacationers, gets fabulous afternoon sun, it’s well laid out and thought out in so many ways I’ve made a commitment to not stay less than 2 weeks next time! The owners seem to have equipped this place with a lot of thought toward actually staying in this house. I brought quite a lot of everything with me, some I didn’t need and some I’m glad I had! Buying at either of the local markets is quite dear if you ask me so bring in your basics! There were next to no plastic wrap, aluminum foil or sandwich/storage bags so bring those, most of your condiments and spices, we brought a lot of great protein, fresh veggie, berries ect. I even brought my little espresso machine for morning lattes on the deck! If you’re going to be cooking much bring some measuring cups and spoons. We brought berrries, yogurt and all the breakfast essentials too. Again, it’s very expansive to shop locally there but I did pick up several Humbolt made goodies and glad I got to try them. Always the best dairy from Humbolt! This house has two comfortable bedrooms, a full bath and kitchen and grey room upstairs and another almost entire house downstairs with a giant tv and overstuffed furniture, a fooseball table, a mini billiards table, an armoire stuffed with books, games, puzzles, chips and cards, you name it. There’s even a Karaoke mic in there. Also a couple of futons that looks as though they might be pretty comfy and even a hot wheels race track! We spent our mornings enjoying lattes overlooking the ocean as the mist was just lifting and the sky turning blue, afternoon walking along the bluffs getting awesome shots of the surf and spray along there, Punic in Bkack Sand Beach, some communion with the Giants up on the Avenue and spending long late days watching pods of whales migrate south, thanks to the telescope and binoculars that were provided! And then there were the stars… I Hope I’ve conveyed how much I lived staying at this little gem of a hideaway! I will definitely book this one again!
