About the host
Hosted by Klaas Kraay
We both work at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson University). Klaas is a professor in the Philosophy Department. Mary Beth works in the School of Graduate Studies and is the Program Administrator for the Master of Nursing and the PhD in Urban Health programs.
We've done long-term stays in Australia (Melbourne), England (Oxford), and the Netherlands (Amsterdam) so know what it is like to live away from home for months at a time. We truly understand how important it is that your accommodations when traveling be comfortable, close to everything, and equipped with all the things you might need for daily life. We hope you find The Aerie is all of these things. Most of all, we want you to feel at home!
We have two amazing children (Emma and Jacob) and we have lived in the Cabbagetown South community for close to 20 years. Our primary residence is 339 Berkeley Street - we live on the first and second floors - so you will see us around. Feel free to say 'hi' anytime!
We are also readily available if you have any questions about the apartment or the neighbourhood.
Why they chose this property
Toronto's Cabbagetown district is a charming mixture of Victorian homes with beautifully kept gardens, fabulous restaurants, gastro pubs, ethnic grocery stores, bargain shops, and antique stores. This community is in the heart of downtown Toronto, and is walking distance to Riverdale Park and Farm, Allan Gardens and Conservatory, Yonge and Dundas (Eaton's Centre, Yonge-Dundas Square), Bloor-Yorkville, the Distillery District, Toronto Metropolitan University, the University of Toronto, the hospital district (St. Michael's Hospital, the University Health Network, Women's College Hospital, Sick Kids' Hospital), MaRS, and the extensive Don Valley trail system. The house is one block from a large grocery store, and even closer to a public library and a lovely French bakery. It is also close to many parks, community centres, a state of the art aquatic centre, and public transit.
What makes this property unique
This is a peaceful oasis in the middle of downtown Toronto. It features a fully-equipped kitchen, full bathroom, and a washer/dryer.
