We were thrilled with this gorgeous home. Very clean and beautiful. If you’re looking for a really special place, this is it. The host has put everything you could need to make your stay memorable. Wonderful neighborhood. Easy access to everything
Perfect home for our large family to attend RTC Graduation
Home was perfect for our family to hang out and spend time with our recent graduate. Close to the base. Home was clean and had everything we needed. Thanks for a memorable weekend!
Beautiful historic home, modernized with excellent air conditioning, plumbing, and modern features. Hosts were accommodating and responsive. Would stay here again!
Property was perfect, just as described. My whole family of 11 loved it!! We picked a central location to visit the Cubs, Brewers, White Sox and The Field Of Dreams movie site, a road trip of course, but the location, the house and lanscape was perfect.
Our time at this rental was beyond an absolute dream come true! The home is beyond gorgeous & the views from all the many windows are breath taking! We traveled for our son's grad from Navy boot camp. In my excitement to reserve the house for our trip I somehow managed to skip through insurance for a refund if a cancelation or date change for travel was needed. I didn't realize it at the time of checkout but wasn't worried as we were so close to graduation time and couldn't foresee anything going wrong, until it did. SO close to PIR date our son was injured & delayed several weeks while recovering in medical. We lost a LOT of money when we had to cancel & rebook, very painful loss. PLEASE be so careful & take your time at checkout to make sure you have purchased this insurance! You never know what can happen. We were so thankful that we were able to rebook for his new PIR. We had a large group of family traveling, & more than anything we wanted a beautiful home to welcome him all together when he was granted his liberty. This home was everything we could have wanted! Base access was quick and easy, the beach was beautiful, lots of room to cook, grill, play games, read, eat together, rest & not feel crowded. There are a lot of stairs & no bedrooms on the 1st floor which was hard for my mom. LOVED our stay here & recommend to all Navy fams for PIR! Owners are very kind and helpful.CHERISHED MEMORIES! only bad part was having to leave! Thank you so very much-all that we needed!
This house has such a history, the Victorian style has you wondering at the stories it could tell from back in the day. The many levels had the kiddos playing hide and seek for ages. Having the two tables was great, we used one to eat at and the other for our board games. The park directly across the street was great for running off energy.... And that's my only complaint is the pictures show a gorgeous back yard and porches, but they are off limits. Which is fine to have off limits, I just wish that was known at the beginning. There were more parks within 5 min from the house that were amazing. It was also just a short drive to the state park to check out the great lake. There are grocery stores also about 10 min away. Kitchen was stocked with a great amount of dishes (glass and plastic), cooking dishes aplenty, and even some plastic baggies for leftovers, greatly appreciated. Such a wonderfully gorgeous house to stay at.
House is creaky. Rooms are all spread out with more sitting rooms than sleeping rooms.
House was well stocked. Biggest complaint all bedrooms were up 2 or 3 flights of steps. No AC and the entire house was hot. The bedrooms had tiny fans, but even at night the bedrooms were 86 degrees.
We have rented a large house as a family for many years, and this is the nicest property we ever rented. The house is beautiful with hardwood floors and nicely decorated throughout, The kitchen had everything we needed and the appliances were newer. Linens throughout were well stocked. The owner quickly responded to any questions. We rented for Navy Boot Camp Graduation, so we probably will not have a reason to return, but if we had a reason, I would not hesitate to rent again
This house was amazing to say the least. From its size, landscaping, massive back yard, and having a view of Lake Michigan is what made it stand out the most. If you are looking for a home where the family can all be in one place look no further because this is the house for you. Just keep in mind you can see more of lake when the leaves drop off so my guess is one of the best time to be in this home is during the fall. The picturesque windows all along the back of this home will have you gazing for days or just mesmerized by the beauty of nature. Not to mention, there is a park across the street for kids (so they can be worn out and go to bed early, your welcome parents so uncork that wine or a drink of your choice and enjoy). To add to a great experience, the host was friendly and very accommodating to say the least. So if you have someone who is about to graduate from the Navy get this house for sure, the base is 15/20 minutes away and you too can explore what Waukegan has to offer. Happy vacationing.
This gem was a last minute find two weeks before our son's PIR from Great Lakes but was the perfect house to get to and from the base, eliminating all of the crazy traffic on graduation day as well as liberty pick up. It's less than 10 minutes from the base and in the opposite direction of where everyone else is staying. We were able to leave 15 minutes before the gates opened and were in the graduation hall right at 7:00 am. Same for pick up and drop off for Liberty, easy on and off the base each time.
The house was amazing! You can tell the owners paid attention to details when they were restoring this old home. There were some minor issues with some of the install, but overall the home was clean, large enough to hold everyone and give them all their own space when needed. Not great for ADA accessibility, many many stairs to climb.
There is no access to the back yard or the back deck as it is in significant disrepair and the owners have it blocked off. I hope the goal is to one day restore the massive deck and update the landscaping because the home has great potential to host family reunions, weddings, etc with the size and view the back yard offers.
The owners were very responsive and they live next doo to the property. The neighborhood was very quiet and safe. There is a lot to do around the home, great restaurants and activities if you are not in town for a PIR. If we are ever in the Great Lakes area again we would definitely stay here.
We stayed here for our daughters, navy graduation. It was about 10 minutes from the rental house, which was very nice .. The house is very nice and roomy, plenty of space for everyone . Two dining room tables , so that was very nice. We gathered at one to eat and the other to play games. Surfaces were clean. It does show a large backyard, but there is no access to it due to the some bad spots in the porches. They have those blocked off. But we did not need that as we did not bring our children with us. But there is a very nice playground right across the street. So it is still a great place for kids to stay.. very convenient to town and shopping malls, etc. everything is within 20 minutes drive. We drove into Chicago and it is about an hour and 15 minutes. Which was not bad at all.The
This house was absolutely wonderful in every way! The decor, the seating for several family members, the amount of baths and bedrooms, beautiful lighting (some that were even motion-sensored). The owner thought of everything to make this house special for visiting families. Great Job!!!!
