About this property

Dog Friendly, West Side Country living with hot tub, pool table, fire pit

NOTE: this is not the full house. This listing is for the lower level walkout with private entrance that is part of my home. VRBO doesn't have a display option for this set up. The listing is not for an entire house.

Welcome to your new Home Base perched at the top of Cedar Run hill on 3 spacious acres with cherry and apple orchards lining the back of the property. Relax in the country even though you are only 4 miles straight shot into downtown Traverse City. Just 10 minutes to downtown TC shopping, dining and all the events while offering you a quiet and restful nights sleep with a great view of the stars from the hot tub.

This West Side walkout features a private master bedroom with queen sized bed, and a huge shared space bedroom with two queen sized murphy beds. Worry not - the murphy beds are also new with very comfortable new mattresses and 600 thread count sheets. There is a newly updated full bathroom and 2 separate spaces to get ready for your adventures, so there's plenty of room to relax.

The family room features a full sized pool table, coffee bar area with microwave and refrigerator, high top table, and a sliding door straight to the outside where you will find a 4 person hot tub, gas grill, 2 picnic tables under the shade trees, and a fire ring to relax in the evening. Experience quiet country living just10 minutes to downtown, Farm Club, Twin Lakes Park, Long Lake swimming, and several hiking trails nearby. Our favorite, Moomer's Ice Cream, is only 1.5 miles away! You're also less than 30 minutes from Sleeping Bear Dunes, wineries, and all the scenic drives the Leelanau Peninsula has to offer.

Accommodations feature a private keyless entrance, outdoor area, and plenty of parking. There are steps down to the entrance, or a walk down the sloping lawn, so please note that fact. Evening hours are meant for winding down and enjoying a campfire or hot tub. Moderate enjoyment is encouraged, please no loud parties.

The owner, Karen, lives on the property on the street level and is happy to interact or respect all the privacy you desire. Need shopping or dining ideas? I've got you covered! If you would like breakfast prepared for you just let me know 24 hours in advance and you can have "bed and breakfast". Additional fees apply based on menu and number of guests.

If there's anything you need, let me know, and if I can I will. Laundry is available as needed.

We are dog friendly, and do require prior approval and conversation before you bring your dog as the owner lives with her two dogs on premises. A purebred German Shorthaired Pointer named Katze (which is Kitty in German) and a small Malti-poo named Kitty. Both dogs are friendly and social, especially the little one! Our property features an invisible fence to keep the babies safe, and depending on the size of your dog, we are happy to share collars so your pet can have some freedom to roam and play (supervised of course) on our three acres.

Here's a few things to note:
- House Broken pets only
- Please crate your pet if you leave your pet home alone > we have crates available for use depending on the size of your pet. Please let us know in advance and we can have kennels set up for you based on your dog's size.
- We can also help with mid day potty breaks in a pinch. We have 3 experienced pet sitters available - please give us notice so we can have someone available for you.
Separate fees for dog walkers.
- No aggressive dogs
- Reasonable barking is accepted - we get it!
- Please take time to socialize all the dogs
- Please clean up after your pet daily
- Please keep pets off furniture and beds
- We have a $100 pet fee for first pet, $50 for the 2nd
- Guests are responsible for any damages

Wonderful peaceful dog-friendly stay in TC
Karen’s place is perfect for exploring all that TC and the surrounding area has to offer. The place was immaculately clean and had more amenities than we could use. Karen is incredibly friendly and was very helpful for recommendations or anything at all that we needed. Having the outdoor space for our dog was great, and Karen made us all feel very welcome. We would definitely stay at Karen’s place again and would highly recommend to others!

Nice place, but bare essentials at property
Karen and her dogs were absolutely lovely, we definitely enjoyed playing in the yard with her dogs. Place was clean and nice but it does not have some amenities that I would say are usually standard. I.e. Kleenex, a freezer, salt or pepper. It has a "kitchenette" with a high top table, keurig and small wine fridge, only plastic utensils and plates. I typically assume a kitchenette has a freezer, maybe one knife to cut an apple or similar. Overall, nice place but not high end on amenities. Also, as you are in the basement of her home, there is some noise coming from upstairs.

Good Homebase
This is a quiet property outside Traverse City but close to many things. It was an easy trip to downtown TC, to the dunes and to the Leelanau peninsula. The kitchen consisted of a small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker, so not good for preparing a full meal. The pool table was great, though! And the host was available and very hospitable.

Lovely!
The patio outside the living room opens to a beautiful and tranquil backyard! The inside has everything you need! Super close to town and Sleeping Bear. She has an awesome dog that’s fun to play with. Will totally stay their again!

I grew up in Flint, but vacationed here for years and moved to TC from San Francisco in 1996. I'm a local shop keeper and pretty connected to downtown and our wonderful Northern Michigan community! I love being a host and helping people enjoy our lovely area. I'm happy to be hands off and also happy to chat and offer any help I can to make your stay memorable. I appreciate that some people do not wish to interact with the host, and I will respect any wishes you have. Please just let me know! Note, I do live on property with my 20 year old son and our 2 dogs :)

Why they chose this property

What I love most about my home is that I am completely in the country, yet only 4 miles do our bustling downtown Traverse City. The absolute best of both worlds.

What makes this property unique

The home is a 1975 Mid Mod with a walkout basement. It's cozy, homey, and not pretentious at all. Easy living. It is not abnormal to catch me gardening a bit during the day and playing fetch with the dogs.
