About Donna McLearn
Growing up in Salida and spending time in Garfield, I still have that love of the area and the scenery. I enjoy Colorado history and am amazed that the School House which is is erected in Garfield from 1879 is still standing and in good condition. The ski area is 5 miles from the cabin.
Why Donna McLearn chose Monarch
Looking outside the cabin, you will see the beautiful mountains and may hear the Little River that is streaming fresh fish and sparkling water up the street. The area is breathtaking and relaxing. My favorite time of the year is Fall, as the leaves change colors and the air is crisp, I enjoy drinking an organic cup of coffee on the front porch.

Disconnect and unwind
This rustic cabin was an opportunity to reconnect without the distraction of phones and computers. The location was ideal for skiing at Monarch. Property Manager was attentive.
Authentic Mining Town Cabin
We loved everything about this property. We could leave the cabin at 8:30, get front row parking at Monarch and be on first chair. Couldn't ask for more.
Comfortable and rustic, with all the comforts of home.
This was a comfortable cabin for me and my two kids. There’s plenty of beds and could fit more people, for sure. It had everything we needed to make meals and it was really a pleasure to be off the grid without Wi-Fi. There was a telephone in the house if people needed to call in, There was no outgoing service if the call was out of the 719 area code.
We ran into a little trouble with the hot water, but we figured it out with the help of the caretaker. It’s a 30 gallon water tank and if you fill up the clawfoot bathtub it takes up all the water. Once we were aware of that we were more judicious with our use of hot water. There was a minor repair needed in the shower that we reported to the caretaker, and she assured us that they would address it right away. Nothing that really got in the way of our stay however.
Overall a very pleasant experience and five minutes away from Monarch ski mountain. We skied three wonderful days and enjoyed our stay very much.
Location, Location, Location
The cabin was very quaint and a great location if you are skiing at Monarch. My teenagers couldn't believe there wasn't wifi, but they survived and we played games and watched movies provided by the host. It was great having a place to come home to that wasn't a motel, where we tend to lay on the beds and zone out on TV.
Thank you for opening up your home to create a place for us to make memories. Now if you can just do something about sore muscles from skiing. . . Looking forward to next year!
I'm delighted that you had a great time at the cabin. I know how important WiFi is to our youth, and sorry this isn't provided to all.
The cabin is a great place to stay if you’re skiing at Monarch!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay during spring break. Donna had the house looking great! This is a historic cabin in a small community of other homes about 3 miles from Monarch. We enjoyed getting away from it all - no WiFi or phone service is available. We stayed warm even though it was cold outside. The only thing that I can think of that would of made our stay better was if the beds the kids slept on were newer. Overall, the Old Timer Cabin is awesome!
This cozy cabin was perfect for my two sons and I for a skiing weekend getaway at Monarch.
