About this property

High-Style Oasis in Heart of Chicago + Free EV Charger!

Modern apartment new in 2020 with easy access to 18th Street restaurants, Fulton Market & Downtown via Pink L train (0.5 mile). Comfy KING BED, pullout sofa, laundry in-unit, FULLY STOCKED kitchen, private outdoor patio, grill & firepit! Heart of Chicago is a quiet, incredibly well-preserved area at the edge of Chicago’s hip Pilsen neighborhood, brimming with original 1880s vintage character & unique architectural charm, + the best Italian & Mexican food in Chicago!

You've probably never been in a tiny place this interesting before - the condo is less than 600 square feet, but tons of incredible design ideas and fun features are tastefully packed into every inch with several smart home features. Not to mention the colorful PRIVATE PATIO with outdoor dining table & chairs, Akorn charcoal grill with accessories, tiki torches, fire pit, and café lighting. Occasional freight train sightings out the western windows! (rail line immediately adjacent to the property, quiet zone with no horns)

After 2 years living at Lake 24th Place, we feel we have perfected a simple lifestyle here - to provide all the ingredients necessary to have a wonderful time in a silly place. You'll see mention of Lake 24th Place - not a real lake, it does not have any water except when it rains; Lake 24th Place is a poorly maintained alley at the end of the street we've been fighting the city about for years. This is a simple place filled with incredible people who are mostly stuck in the 80s; the perfect place to find high-style comfort without the pressures of the modern world. Some may describe this neighborhood as a post-industrial afterthought, but it's honestly one of our favorite places (check out the custom typewriter poem on the wall to truly understand its essence).

Located on the second floor with a private exterior door in back near your off-street dedicated parking space (with EV charger!), or common hallway access via side door. Very convenient for getting in and out, walking dogs, food delivery, etc. This is a small multi-unit building, situated on a residential side street.

The space has no stairs inside (but stairs are required to reach the second floor). Guests can expect modern décor and amenities - the building was constructed in 2020 with all new HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fixtures, and stainless steel appliances. Owners used to live here and have upgraded this place as their own with special, unique touches and a sense of humor :). Packed with smart home features (including electronic window treatments, smart speakers, touch faucet, sensor lighting, and more) and conveniences big & small to make your experience as enjoyable as possible.

The main bedroom has a comfy King Bed with Purple mattress, pillow topper, and fluffy king size Coop pillows. This bedroom also has a Roku & Chromecast enabled 32" TV, phone charging station, and plenty of closet space.

The second "bedroom" is set up as a living room - a funky, cozy space fondly referred to as The Lounge. The couch in The Lounge is a convertible pullout & this room can be used as a second bedroom. Keep in mind you must choose between having a living room or second bedroom, the High-Style Oasis does not have both. As the saying goes: You can have anything, but you can't have everything.

This space has everything you might need to cook a full meal, entertain (including high speed Wi-Fi, board games, Chromecast/Roku TVs), or otherwise live as if you are right at home - with plenty of soap, towels, hangers, and laundry detergent.

Dedicated driveway parking space near the stairs to the unit in back with free EV charger! For extra vehicles, there is easy and available free street parking on Western Ave or 24th Street.

This is the ideal place for a single person or couple (King Bed with pillow top in the main bedroom), but the pullout couch in The Lounge (living room) is very comfortable for additional sleeping options - it is technically a second bedroom with a door and can be used as such.

Why they chose this property

This neighborhood is like none other - a quiet dead-end street in the center of everything - easy access to downtown, a two block walk to decades-old Italian restaurants in Heart of Italy, close to so many major hospitals and institutions. This spot touches 4 neighborhoods, all coming together right around this area - Heart of Chicago, Heart of Italy, Pilsen, and Little Village. The street doesn't look like much, with an odd mix of working-class housing from the late 1800s, but you soon realize how many wonderful things are accessible from this spot when you stay here. The meticulously maintained 1890s homes and churches are an absolute delight, with the skyline of downtown Chicago in the background. This is a true authentic Chicago experience. For those that want a touristy spot this may not be for you, but if you really want to get to know Chicago (safely, comfortably), this place provides a lot of insight. The neighbors are absolutely incredible, a wide mix of people from film directors to food truck operators. The food is out of this world, and cheaper than anything you'll find downtown. This is one of our favorite places in the world, it takes a bit to truly understand and appreciate it.

What makes this property unique

Take a stroll through the tiny well-tended gardens between the street and the sidewalk to feel the front-porch charm of an earlier era. Behind the deceiving bustle of Western Avenue sit stunning historical churches nestled perfectly between rows of small brick and stone multifamily homes connected to the sidewalk via tiny bridges, across manicured garden “moats” from when the street was raised back in the 1890s to add a modern sewer system. Feeling the history of a majestic city far older than any of its residents, so carefully passed down through generations, it becomes easy to appreciate those who have stewarded this place so graciously for us to enjoy and learn from – this is the true heart of Chicago.
