About this property

City Sanctuary steeped in History<br>RTE ‘Home of the Year 2020’

Just outside Dublin’s M50 ring road where the bustling city starts to give way to golf courses and vegetables, this Award Winning old coach house has been charmingly transformed into a quiet and refined country home.

Within easy reach of all the main transport routes, this is an ideal base from which to explore the enchantment of Ireland’s capital from an historic domain.

Abiding elegance, exclusive charm.

The Carriage House faces onto its own sunny enclosed granite and cobblestone courtyard, surrounded by a cluster of outbuildings dating from the early 1700’s.

The conversion from coach house to home has left arches where giant doors once hung filled with picture windows painted plum in contrast to the pumpkin flushed walls.

A glazed entrance lobby leads to a bright and intimate living room. The space is furnished with a delightful collection of antiques, books, paintings and ornaments that tempt scrutiny.

Rough plastered white walls and well worn wooden columns remind us of a more utilitarian time. The house enjoys sustainable under floor heating on the ground floor, but there is also a wood burning stove for cosiness.

The spacious kitchen and dining area retains some stable detailing in iron grids, fittings and bruised door posts.

An archetypical pair of oculus windows light up the exposed joists and ceiling that echo the deep tones of the walnut kitchen cupboards.

The generous dining area opens through a small parlour into the garden courtyard, and the combination of informal spaces positively encourages entertaining

The upstairs double bedrooms retain the original rustic stone walls and tiny windows. The master is ensuite, and the second is served by a family bathroom.

The property is reached via a long driveway that runs in from the Royal Canal.
The secluded courtyard with its shady pergola is perfect for summer Barbeques and entertaining.
Surrounding buildings originally served as the coaching stables for Luttrellstown Castle Estate, and adjoin the renown Beech Park walled gardens, which were developed by David Shackleton in the mid 20th Century, and are now also open to the public.

Shackleton Garden is open to the public from 10am to 3pm, Monday to Thursday, and from 9am to 1pm on Fridays.

Facilities:

The house is equipped with everything you would expect in a luxury home, including CCTV. A gourmet cook is available on request to cater for dinner parties – we require 2 weeks’ notice though.

If you have a particular requirement, be sure to tell us.

Secret Garden outside Dublin
This is the most beautiful place in the Dublin area we could have imagined. Simply idyllic - you’d never think you were just outside Dublin in this quiet, tucked away garden - 20-30 minute car ride to city centre or catch the train at the end of the driveway. Unbelievably convenient as well as peacefully beautiful. Our kids loved running around the courtyard filled with olive trees, lavender, roses and wisteria. They ate grapes off the vine and apples off Ethna’s tree. We walked to the playground often. The farm next door has a beautiful farm stand on the weekends and we were 5 min from the nearest grocery store. We could have stayed forever!
