About this property
Luxury Dome Mountain Retreat
Just as unique as the mountains of east Tennessee, and with $0 cleaning fee, our luxury GeoDome is a complete one-of-a-kind stay just outside the Cherokee National Forest. Affectionately known as “The Poplar”, it is the only GeoDome in the Madisonville/Tellico Plains area.
This steel and wood structure has all the creature comforts of tiny home living while offering the peaceful openness of a large dome. The kitchen is stocked with all the tools to cook fabulous meals. There is a 2 burner gas range, a counter top air fryer and oven, a farmhouse sink and a full size fridge. Open the drawers to find all you need, just bring the food and drinks
The living area is furnished with high-end furniture that gives guests the best feature of the dome; the views from the large panoramic window. Since the window faces east, enjoy all day sunlight while keeping the temp just right with the AC/Heat mini-split. Centered in the dome is the only 4-walled room and that is the large bathroom. Its the perfect space to get ready for the day or clean up after spending time in nature. When its bedtime, there is a plush queen size bed on the far side the structure. Sleeping in the dome is like sleeping in a cave; cool, calm, and quiet. Upon request, an additional queen size air mattress can be provided with linens.
This retreat is designed to let you disconnect and enjoy the simpler things in life. Go old school with plenty of board games and card games. There are various books and brochures on the area to help you plan your adventures. There is internet available, however, it is spotty. While there is no TV on site, download movies or music to a device to use while visiting. There is a bluetooth speaker provided.
Nestled in a forested holler on our 12 acres, the dome is surrounded by hills on three sides which offers the best of both shade and open sky to view the stars at night. Whats a trip to the mountains without enjoying the large fire pit that sits next to the babbling creek. Firewood and starters are supplied so just sit back on the comfy furniture and relax. The is a long private gated driveway which runs parallel to the creek and offers plenty of parking.
Up on the north hill is our small boutique farm and our home. While we do live on site we are not in sight. A short walk away and a guest can spend time with our large flock of chickens who provide you with fresh eggs or our friendly Kunekune pigs. They love treats and belly rubs.
Being located on the border of Madisonville and Tellico Plains, The Poplar is centrally located to many great nature experiences. Only a few miles down the road is the famous Tellico Farm Market. The market offers fresh produce and other baked goods from the local Mennonite communities. Go a little farther and you are in Tellico Plains, the gateway to the Cherohala Skyway. Head up the Skyway to view water falls, go hiking, or take in the amazing views from the various mountain overlooks. Go float down the Tellico River or white water rafting on the Hiwassee river. For a slower paced experience, ride the Hiwassee River Scenic Railroad or tour caves at The Lost Sea. You can even make a day trip to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, or the Great Smokey Mountains National Forest Park.
Whether you stay in or go adventuring, The Poplar dome is a very unique destination and sure to be memorable.

About the host
Hosted by Ferris Mueller

We are Tim and Ferris. Having vacationed in East Tennessee for many years, we had always dreamed of moving to the mountains and opening a short term rental because there is nothing better for the soul than getting out in nature. Having three kids, we knew that one day they get to be to old to move so last year we left our custom wood working business in Florida and bought 12 acres in Madisonville.
We enjoy hiking, finding water falls, home schooling the kids, and taking care of our many farm animals. Ferris also an amazing cook!! Most importantly, we know there are others, like us, that need to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and find a sanctuary to unwind. Thats why we decided to build our own rental using a GeoDome. The Poplar is our blood sweat and tears and we love sharing the area with our guests.

Why they chose this property
We live in an area where cell phones do not work. There wasnt even power down our part of the road when we moved here, but we are close to both Tellico Plains and Madisonville. Our property is secluded, but not remote. Our rental is not in a touristy area at all. We just get to enjoy nature.
What makes this property unique
The dome is built in a forested holler and sits about 500ft back from the country road. The drive is private and has a gate. The dome is the only residence in that holler so you have it all to yourself. You will be able to enjoy the sun and shade. Everything in the dome is brand new, from the dishes, to the sheets, to the pots and pans. Its all set up so you can just show up with your clothes and food.
