About this property
Golden Gate Bridge View from Light, Bright Oakland Hills/Montclair Home
Our sunny, secluded Oakland Hills home is perched high in the hills of Piedmont Pines with a front deck providing wonderful views of Marin County, San Francisco, the Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge. There are outside tables and chairs for outside dining, plus a gas barbecue. We also have a private back patio with a ping pong table.
The front deck and entry of the house is reached by 18 stairs with two landings. The house has hardwood floors, a dining room (seats 6) and living room with floor-to-ceiling windows with views of San Francisco, Marin, Golden Gate Bridge, Lake Merritt, and Alcatraz. There is also a modern, open-plan kitchen with granite countertops.
The two main floor bedrooms each have queen-sized beds, the child's room off of the master bedroom has a twin bed in the shape of a race car, and the downstairs bedroom has both a queen-sized bed and a twin bed. The main bathroom has a bathtub with shower. The master bedroom with the adjoining child's room both have French doors opening to the back patio. The master bedroom has its own bathroom with stall shower. The house is approximately 1500 square feet.
There are many books and original paintings throughout the house.
You can reach San Francisco in 20-30 minutes by car or public transportation, and the village of Montclair, with its cafes, shops and a Sunday farmers' market, is only a 2-minute drive or a 20-minute (hilly) walk from our house. Berkeley, with its great university and wonderful restaurants, is only a 10-minute drive. Our house is very popular for hosting families of UC Berkeley students for events such as graduation.
This neighborhood of Oakland is called Montclair. It's in the hills, and although close to city life in Oakland, Berkeley and San Francisco, it's quite green and natural here, with many trees, deer, birds (and bird and hummingbird feeders), and hiking trails. We are only a five minute drive up the hill to the vast redwood parks including Redwood Regional Park, Joaquin Miller Park, and Sibly Park. We are well-stocked with brochures detailing the various nearby Oakland and Berkeley parks.

About the host
Hosted by Janet and Kees den Breejen

We are Kees and Janet. We've lived in the beautiful Bay Area for over 30 years. We've been dividing our time between our Montclair home and our cabin in Yuba County, California, for the past 15 years. We have two grown sons, one living in New York and one nearby in Oakland, and a 12 year old granddaughter and 9 year old grandson.
Kees is Dutch, born in Delft in the Netherlands, who moved to Canada as a child and then to California. He is fluent in Dutch. He is retired from the San Francisco Chronicle, having worked as a graphic artist, and is now a painter. Janet is a 5th generation California native. She is retired, having worked for many years as an index editor for a legal publishing company in San Francisco. Both Kees and Janet love to travel. They also enjoy having the grandchildren stay overnight once a week.

Why they chose this property
The benefits of this property include the view of San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate and Marin. A secluded setting but is centrally located, 5 minutes from Highway 13 to Berkeley (10 min), San Francisco (30 min) and Downtown Oakland (20 min), Marin County (40 min) Pacific Ocean at SF (1 hr). We are close to many miles of hiking in regional parks nearby. Swimming at nearby Lake Temescal. Near many charming shopping districts with excellent restaurants. Near the University of California at Berkeley (20 min).
What makes this property unique
We love the country atmosphere while being in a city. We like the aroma of the eucalyptus trees and the fog clearing from the valleys. We often encounter deer with fawns, Steller jays and red-tailed hawks and sometimes wild turkeys.
