!!Hot Tub!! - Edge of Gros Morne Park - Explorers, family & Snowmobilers home
Situated on the edge of Big Bonne Bay Pond and Gros Morne National Park our 1800 sq foot beachfront vacation house offers beautiful views of the lake, rolling hills and wildlife. While houses are on either side of the property, large trees keep the house secluded.
The property is situated on the very edge of Gros Morne National Park with a large ecological preserve just outside your master bedroom. Opportunities exist to watch moose, ducks and other wildlife while sitting on your deck or in the vast gardens soaking up the fresh air while having your morning coffee. When you have finished your coffee take a stroll along the beach and have a look for tracks to see if you had any moose visit you overnight.
Exploring Gros Morne national park is a geographically challenged task. Our home is situated in the middle of the park, 40 minutes from the Tablelands Mountains and 1 hour from Western Brook pond. Being centrally located is perfect to head out for your daily adventures.
The House is equipped with all the amenities you will need for your stay. Use the fully equipped oak kitchen to prepare your food however you like it. With a fish plant and full grocery facilities nearby you’ll have lots of opportunity to enjoy fresh lobster, cod and all kinds of ocean treats. We have a lobster pot and outdoor propane cooker at the house so you can enjoy a traditional outdoor lobster feast. If you need more supplies for the house a corner store is only 5 km away and the City of Deer Lake is only a short 15 minute drive.
There are 3 bedrooms. The master bedroom has a Queen bed with large windows overlooking the lake and the ecological preserve. The second bedroom has a Queen bed. The third bedroom has two twin beds. There is additional sleeping possibilities in the finished basement. Otherwise the large leather sectional couch can even add another sleeping location.
At the end of the day there are several choices to relax. A campfire in the stone fire pit will allow you to reflect on your days adventures while you roast some marshmallows and look at the stars. There is also a 7 person, 80 jet, 3 waterfall deluxe hot tub to help soothe your muscles after a day of hiking, snowmobiling, boating, four wheeling or whatever adventures your day entailed.
If the weather decides not to cooperate our house is equipped with lots of activities. The basement is fully furnished with a Plasma TV, Satellite HD receiver, blue ray player, movies, books, satellite internet and board games.
Every season offers a reason to return to the Chateau. Whether its snowmobiling on the number one rated trail in the world, ice fishing, four wheeling, sea doing, boating, hiking or just relaxing with a book in the fresh air , a stay at Chateau Shady Loop offers it all.

Good location for access to Gros Morne NP. Older home, quiet, everything worked fine. Furniture a bit dated, but comfortable. Great place to unwind after hiking all day.
We had a great stay. Very well equipped kitchen. The hot tub was great and we enjoyed it very much. Beautiful scenery and very quiet. Would definitely stay there again.
The property has a great view of the Bonne Bay Pond. We didn't use the hot tub due to the black flies. They did enjoy munching on us. Lol. It is a very pretty spot and we enjoyed our stay.
Great location for visiting Gros Morne National Park. Very nice accommodations, views, and hot tub. Hosts were quick to respond and helpful.
Highly recommend!

Beautiful atmosphere, very clean and comfortable.
Ideal for a longer stay to truly enjoy the surroundings, yard and decks etc., while all the conveniences are great even for short periods. The proximity to the Gros Morne national park makes it a superb location.

Wonderful location for visiting Gros Morne park. Hosts were very responsive with all my questions leading up to the visit as we were flying in and didn't know what we should bring. Beds were very comfortable and clean, kitchen was well equipped and hot tub worked great after long days of exploring the park. Thank you for opening up this gem of a cottage to visitors :).
Perfect location..The house had everything we needed. The hot tub was heaven after a day on the skidoos. The view was breath taking. Perfect location for skidooing. Will definitely be back! .

Loved it!
We loved this tranquil property. It was ideally situated to explore Gros Morne, while still being close to Deer Lake for the airport and grocery needs. Everything was spotlessly clean, the beds were very comfortable, and the kitchen was well equipped. We can highly recommend it.

Enjoyed our stay very much. Relaxing in the hot tub was a big plus. Only drawback was door in downstairs shower was broken so, one shower amongst five people. Tried to contact property managers but cell number out of service and no response to messages left on voicemail of the other number given.

That View Tho!!
My wife and I wanted to get away for a few days with our new 4 month old, after looking around online I stumbled on to Chateau Shady Loop. The pictures looked good and it was in the location we wanted. The booking was very easy and I really liked the way the property was managed and the pin code door lock was nice as we did not have to pick up any keys.
The cabin was beautiful with an amazing view over the pond, everything you needed was supplied and was very well kept. We will be booking again soon!!

Rodney, thanks for your kind review. We appreciate your kind comments. It is nice to hear that you appreciated our easy booking process. When travelling I always hated picking up keys or remembering someone elses code. Allowing our guest to select a pin for their stay and no keys is our way of solving this problem. We try and make our customers experience before the visit as enjoyable as the stay while at our house. We hope to have you back again for another break soon.

Great place to stay, great hosts, great venue
Our biggest mistake was limiting our time in Gros Morne. We stayed for 3 days. Just enough time to soak in the area, do a hike or two, and head to the Tablelands and Western Brook Pond. Both are highly recommended.
The house was in great shape when we arrived, and Deer lake was close enough to get supplies in and out.
Bring some bug spray depending on the season!
We started our days with a hearty breakfast, sat out on the deck overlooking the water, and then headed out for our day trip. Came home for dinner to a well stocked kitchen and a bbq, and finished the evening with a hot tub and a game.
All amenities were clean, comfortable, and we had access to real people should problems occur (they didn't).
Thanks Jen and Joel for a great stay! We will be back!

It is great to hear that you had a great time exploring the Gros Morne! It sounds like you covered the key spots in your 3 days and that the park left you wanting to explore more.
It is often that guests wish they had more time in Gros Morne. With the park being 2.5 hours across it is very tough to cover it all. Chateau Shady Loop is positioned right in the middle and that helps our guests spend more time exploring instead of driving.
Even after years of exploring the area I continue to explore new places and not wanting to leave. I hope you have the chance to come back, soak in more of the Gros Morne air and explore again.

A great base for exploring Gros Morne
Our party was comprised of 2 couples. The house is conveniently located, especially for exploring the South part of Gros Morne National Park, and further afield to Corner Brook. It is well-equipped with all the necessities. We did not use the hot tub. The owners Jen and Joel provide plenty of useful information, both by email and telephone. We found Coleman's supermarket in Deer Lake to be the best - as suggested by Jen and Joel. A brief power outage stopped the running water, but a call to maintenance brought a fix in 10 minutes. The view of the Big Bonne Bay Pond is nice, but access to the water and beach area is not the greatest.

Thanks for your feedback on our property. We are glad to hear that you had a quick response when you needed support. We have 2 property managers within a 5 minute walk of our house and they are always available to help the guests of Chateau Shady Loop. You are correct that the beach can is a short walk through a trail on our property or at the end of the road. It is worth the walk.
Thanks for staying with us and for taking the time to share your experience.

Great place to stay!
While the name is a mite pretentious...CSL offers excellent accomodation in a beautiful setting convenient for area attractions. In fact the place was so nice it was a struggle to leave it to visit Gros Morne etc when, with kids, we could just as well hang around in the hot tub, play on the beach etc etc. The bungalow was spotlessly clean and well equipped with all you would need. The set up worked well for us as a party of a family of four upstairs and a couple in the (above ground) basement. It is possible for 8 people to stay using airbeds but I'd suggest this would get crowded for any more than a day or so.
Only complaint was the hot tub is on a timer which meant it got cold during the days as we used it so much. We had to call the hot tub guru from next door to override the settings.
We'd certainly consider staying here again either in summer or winter for the excellent snowmobiling in the area.
Response from VrboOwner on 27 March 2020
Alan, thanks for the kind review of our place. I am glad to hear that you had such a great stay. Sorry to hear about your challenge with the hot tub. The tub is actually not on a timer, there is an economy mode that runs in the middle of the day and the middle of the night. This stops the tub from heating when it typically is not used. So if the cover is off it will cool off. Based on your feedback we have removed the mid day economy mode. In our travels we had always struggled with hot tub rentals which is why we leave it open for our guests to run it even at 104 degrees if they desire. As you saw we leave the hot tub controls completely unlocked for our guests to control. Hopefully you will have a chance to try the hot tub this winter with 10 ft of snow around it and thousands of stars. We run a heated walkway to the tub in the winter so that your toes stay warm.
Thanks for your helpful feedback and for staying with us at Chateau Shady Loop
The review focuses on the property itself, not the location (etc). We arrived in late July as remnants of a hurricane left. The temperature dropped to about 12 outside, and the interior of the house was both damp & smelt musty. We could not turn the heating on, dehumidification in the basement cooled it off, and did not impact the humidity. The basement shower (we had been advice of this prior to arrival) was not-functioning, and was not usable during our stay. The result was the basement was thus not habitable. Kitchen and dining area were as expected, hot tub was good. The single beds squeaked. The rest was a reduced living space for two mature couples, when the expectation was different.

Thanks for your review and for staying with us. Unfortunately someone did break the shower in the basement before your arrival and for your safety we put it off limits. The beauty of Newfoundland is its remoteness. I unfortunately shower parts don’t show up on next day on Amazon out here so everything takes time.
The heat pumps on both floors manage temperature and himidity. The remotes are beside them both on the wall. In 13 years I’ve never heard of a humidity issue at our home but our property manager would been glad to come and check if something was wrong with the heat pumps. Those are the heating and cooling in the wall and also exchange air to manage humidity or whatever you wish. We have never heard this since so i guess not
thanks for staying with us.

Lovely, well equipped home
We found the house quite easily with no issues getting into the property. It is a lovely home, that was clean and well equipped with the basic utensils for cooking. The home is as lovely as the pictures reflect. Comfortable beds. We thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub after a long days hiking. Unfortunately for us the jets on the hot tub wouldn't work after the first night. We tried calling the property manager about it and although we were there another two days, never did receive a response back and were not able to use the hot tub again afterwards. That was the only downside to the stay (and disappointing since the hot tub was the clincher to us renting the property over others). The truly disappointing part was not that it broke down, that happens, it was the lack of response from the property manager or the owners whom were also emailed about it. To date, a month later I haven't received any acknowledgement at all that I even tried contacting either of them.
Otherwise the house was great for a family of 5. We enjoyed exploring the shore as well as the many hiking trails in close proximity. Beautiful find.

Laurel,
Thanks for taking the time to fill our our review request. I'm glad to hear that you had a great vacation on the west coast! I'm extremely glad that you mention the comfortable beds! We worked hard to get 2 new queen size deluxe memory foam mattresses in this spring. Thanks!
I'm very sorry to hear that our property manager was not responsive to your call about the hot tub. This is not normally the case as our guests have been very happy with her support when needed. Clearly that happened here and left you with a hot tub with no jets. For safety, the hot tub has a breaker outside by the tub that shuts it down in the event of a power failure. It needs to be reset after the power returns even if it is just a momentary power failure that you may not have seen.
To best utilize your feedback I have a couple thoughts how we can prevent this for future guests:
- We are going to add a page to our guide and try to put something by the tub controller that gives instruction to reset the breaker should the jets not function.
- Even though our guests all have our home number we will look at setting up a different line to reach our property manager that will ring me and my wifes cell phone should she not be available at that moment. That way even if we are on vacation we can try and assist.
Regardless, we are disapointed with this situation and regret that we were on vacation or we would have perhaps been able to assist when you could not reach our property manager. Thanks for sharing your comments to help us improve.
I'm glad you had a good visit to the park and we hope to have you back again at Chateau Shady Loop
About the host
Hosted by Jen and Joel
My wife Jen and I grew up in Ontario and have 2 boys. Jen is a Registered nurse and I am a business executive. We are both big foodies and we love seafood. I love the outdoors and enjoy salmon fishing and hiking. We currently live in Ontario.
Why they chose this property
We love Newfoundland. After 20 years of being a tourist in Newfoundland we decided to call it home! We were married in Newfoundland and have seen just about every corner of the island. The property was perfect for us. It is not far from the fish plant, the park, a lake, the airport and amenities in Deer Lake. The park is 2.5 hours across so the location of Chateau Shady Loop right in the middle of route across the park is perfect. We are big fans of Winter activities as well. Chateau Shady Loop averages 14 feet of snow in the winter and is only 50 min from Marble mountain for downhill skiing. We love everything about Chateau Shady Loop. We love sharing it with others so they can experience the beauty of Newfoundland, the people and the great outdoors.
What makes this property unique
When we stay in Shady Loop there are so many things we enjoy doing. Certainly taking in the fresh air, the sky FULL of stars and walking the beach are fovorites of ours. We LOVE seafood, so having the fish plant and proper grocery access nearby makes for OUTSTANDING meals.
Having Gros Morne national park only a few kilometres away makes for outstanding day trips. Whether it is out looking for moose, off hiking a mountain, or taking a walk at the tablelands - there is just so much to do!!!
