About Robert FitzPatrick
We consider it one of our greatest fortunes in life to have found Laurel River Retreat more than 14 years ago. Developing it, enjoying it, and sharing it have been among our highest enjoyments. We live and work in Charlotte, NC. Robert is a writer/consultant. Terry is a professional artist. Her paintings are on exhibit in galleries in Charlotte and in corporate and private collections. (Some are on the walls of the house.) It is our great pleasure to share this treasure with rental guests. Almost every year, we have sought to improve Laurel River Retreat. Two years ago, we completely remodeled the larger upstairs bathroom, adding windows, all new lighting, ceramic tiles and river stones and a signature stained glass in the beautiful walk-in shower. In 2012, we totally remodeled the kitchen, with ceramic counter tops, wood ceiling, an bar/island with antique barnwood, an ultra-quiet dish waster and a disposal. We also now have high speed internet service, satellite cable and free long distance phone. Above all, Laurel River Retreat is unique because of its location. It sits almost invisibly among poplars, mountain laurel and hemlocks on a hill overlooking the Laurel River and Laurel River Trail. The sounds of the river rapids envelop the house. The water, tree canopy and hillside breezes keep it cool in the summer. It is well insulated and heated in cold months. The fireplace adds a cozy warmth. Laurel River Retreat offers a respite from the pressures and routines of daily life. It is an opportunity to connect with nature -- to hear it, smell, feel it, and truly be in a beautiful natural environment; yet also enjoy the comforts and conveniences of a well equipped home. Sincerely, Robert FitzPatrick, Terry Thirion
