Wet Spots and Cockroaches
Rating Details: The property manager was adequately helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: On walking into the place, it smelled like a port-a-potty. We had to air out the entire place for three days before it smelled any better, and then were asked to keep our outside door closed. In addition, the bed sheets had clearly not been cleaned with very obvious (and disgusting) "wet spots" as well as copious amounts of hair all over the bed that made me not want to sleep at the property for the first two days (in addition to the smell). After I washed all of the bedsheets on all of the beds a few times, left the doors open for three days to air out the smell, and between playing catch-and-release with very large cockroaches– the place was acceptable.

Overall great basement apartment in a hip neighborhood for food and proximity to metro/museums
Apartment was great for our family of 4 (2 teenagers) having plenty of space with nice kitchen and living room area. We were in town for a 5 day trip to be a tourist and visit museums. Shaw neighborhood is great for restaurants. Proximity to Metro Center Station is a huge plus for days you don’t feel like making the walk to or from the museums and monuments. Minutes away from CVS and seconds away from a liquor store were a plus. Fun fact is this is the Blanche Bruce House (look it up) and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1975. Overall a great home base for our family.

Blagden Alley
Overall, we had a great time at this property. Location was perfect and lots of good eats and coffee nearby. Liked the Blagden Alley walk, art, cafés and bars. Felt like finding a secret restaurant/bar that other people didn’t know existed. Unconventional Diner was great and I highly recommend. Also, All Purpose Pizza was great as well as Le Columbe Coffee and the Calico Bar in Blagden Alley; outstanding all around. Metro was right across Convention Center and convenient. The accommodations were clean and everything worked. Some of the furniture is not constructed well but the kitchen and bath were highly functional and clean. 5 stars for that! One thing I would have liked having is a cable TV option to watch all sports and channels (Sunday and Monday football could only be found in Spanish and many other options required paid access) for the “wind down” time in the evening. You will also hear people upstairs moving about at all times of night. First night was the worst with footsteps/walking back and forth above the back bedroom late at night but this got much quieter as the rest of the week went on. We had one evening where the owner’s 18yo kid elected to throw a social gathering upstairs on a Friday night that fortunately quieted down around 10:30. We contacted management and they were very responsive to this and gave us a credit for the hassle. Excellent communication and service the whole way through. Overall, loved the location and history of this spot (Senator Blanche K. Bruce living here) and the cool urban vibe found in the restaurants and bars. Thanks for making our stay in DC a great one.

perfect location
my teenage daughter and i stayed in the property for a week while i had a conference at the convention center. the location was perfect. the kitchen had everything we needed and a grocery store was a short walk away. we felt safe everywhere in the neighborhood. we did a lot of walking, but also enjoyed the metro being a block away, and a few times used Uber which was always quickly available and reasonable. we appreciated having a washer and dryer on site. also it was nice to have enough dishwasher detergent and laundry soap for the week provided. and both a dip coffee maker and keurig were provided (with coffee filters) the bed arrangement was fine for my daughter and I, a queen bed with a set of bunks in the bedroom. it would not work if you were looking for more privacy between beds. only small downsides -tap water had an off taste and there did not seem to be a working water filter -mattress on the bed was lower quality than the rest of the furnishings (it was too soft and you could feel the coils.) you could hear people on the floor above the bedroom, they seemed to be having dinner about the time we were settling for bed -my daughter did school work while i was gone and we could not get the lights above the desk in the bedroom to work these were all small things, we would stay here again for any DC trip, but especially if we were attending an event at the convention center
