The secluded half mile wide beach, is perfect for surfing, fishing, and sunset walks. When you are not in the mood for sand between your toes head back up to the house to relax with a book or cocktail on the expansive patio by the infinity pool. Unwind in the cool ocean breeze listening to the sound of the ocean waves or cool off with a dip in the pool. Take in the views of the mountain and the Pacific Ocean. You may even see a migrating humpback whale in the distance or be entertained by Howler monkeys passing by in the surrounding trees. No need to leave the house for meals as you can use the well equipped kitchen or the outdoor brick oven to prepare your dinner. Or better yet, treat yourself, and have Casa Mariposa’s cuidador, Freddy, spoil you with one of his famous local dishes. Enjoy a hot shower and then a restful night’s sleep in one of the four spacious, air-conditioned bedrooms. Thrill seekers can take a day trip to Cerro Negro, near Leon, for the once in a lifetime opportunity to go volcano boarding. On the way back to Casa Mariposa stop by Masaya Volcano to be awestruck by the molten lava bubbling up from Earth’s interior. Closer to home you can go horseback riding on our beach or visit Playa Hermosa (where Survivor seasons 29 & 30 were filmed) for world class surfing and relaxation.

Beautiful place

Absolutely beautiful house. We loved the fact the house has 3 bathrooms for each bedroom. Peaceful and quiet surroundings. You can even hear the sound of the waves. The pool is a huge plus. The two guys who work there are very attentive. They clean the pool and the surroundings every morning. The communication with the host is easy and very informative. A sign on the side of the main road would be way better to find the house. Other than that, we loved staying in this house. I'd come back to it all the time! Thanks so much to DJ and to the two workers on site for giving us a wonderful experience.

My husband kept saying, 'this is the ideal vacation."

We stayed in Casa Mariposa for nine days. We found the house to be extremely comfortable and homey. The view was incredible. Freddis was so wonderful. The surfing, horseback riding and variety of beaches to explore made every day fun and exciting. We loved that it was outside of the tourist scene in San Juan del sur. We can't wait to come back again!

Way over-priced

I would love to tell you all the details about why I believe this place is extremely over-priced, but I don't want to bore you. I will say, it is somewhat far from the beach, a bit of a hike. You can rent a clean and modern house in Rancho Santana or Iguana, right on the beach, for half the price. This house has a limit on electricity usage, so don't use the air conditioning units too much or you will be charged. The beds are extremely uncomfortable and towels are stiff. If you like privacy, this is not your place. Although Fredise is very nice, he is always there cleaning the pool and sweeping around it. I appreciate cleanliness, but I also appreciate privacy. It would have been nice if the house was as clean as the pool area. Twice we came back from the beach and our stuff looked like someone had rummaged through it. It really didn't bother me because I have nothing of value; what bothered me more, was the house wasn't clean. If you are going to go through our belongings, the least you can do is clean the dishes and the bathroom floors. I don't want to make this place sound horrible because it wasn't. I just know you can get more for your money.

FABULOUS!!

We stayed almost a week at Casa Mariposa over Thanksgiving 2015 with our son, his wife and 3 children and it turned out to be more than we could have ever imagined. We all loved it! The view is spectacular and the beach breathtaking. Freddie, the caretaker, couldn't have been nicer and took care of all our needs and cooked dinner several evenings for us which was yummy. the house is great - very comfortable and easily accommodated all of us. We hope to go again and recommend it highly.
