Hobby farm Country Getaway Close To The City (Guest room #1)

*****This is an owner occupied house, FYI.*****

"Come for the cheap lodging, stay for the adventure..." Many of my guests might say 😂

This property is best suited for guests who enjoy rural living, nature, and the relaxed pace of the countryside rather than a hotel-style experience.

Large country home on 30 acres just off Hwy 52 about 10 miles north of Rochester.

I am a nurse at Mayo Clinic and work 12 hr night shifts. I am very mellow, easy going and easy to get along with.

This listing has a queen size bed, full size bed, and daybed

About the Hobby Farm...

This is a real hobby farm, not a petting zoo. Animals come and go depending on the season, fencing, and farm projects. Some stays may include horses or cattle in the pasture, while other times the property may only have the resident dogs, cats, and local wildlife.

Rural life changes with the seasons, and that’s part of the charm of staying here.

Timeliness of things I've done with the place:

2013-2015 : installed wood floors on main/2nd floor rooms, outdoor patio/firepit

Fenced off property for pasture 🐮🐎

2017 New AC/Furnace

2018 Installed freestanding solar panels on South side of house

Bought an old truck with a plow for plowing

2019: New woodstove in main floor living room

2020: finished off basement for 2 additional bedrooms, full bath, kitchen area, living room with fireplace!

2021: Updating upstairs bedrooms and bathroom and areas of the main level

Ongoing:
Still planning on building an edition off dining room/living room.

I have two cat(inside) and two dogs (outside).

House has central air, wood burning fireplace, washer/dryer, large porch in the front and a deck in the back of the house. On the main level is the living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom and my bedroom. Basement has a living room with gas fireplace, full bathroom, kitchen, 2 guest bedrooms, and utility/laundry room

My two dogs Daisy (14yr old Mountain Cur) and Kodiak (15year old lab/pix mix) were hunting dogs in their previous owners. They are the friendliest dogs you will ever meet although they might appear somewhat intimidating when you see them running towards you to welcome as you drive in. I live in the woods and the dogs like to hunt so you may see the occasional dead animal the dogs catch laying around outside. Many times they will bring there catches near the house to show off there hunting treasures.

The dogs are outside most of the time, but they can come in the house if they are supervised (if left alone the dogs will chew things up and eat things in the kitchen). They are great lap dogs if you want them on the couch with you watching TV.

Max and Smokey strictly indoor indoor cats. Even if you aren't a cat person you will love my cats. If you shut the door to your bedroom make sure you don't lock the cats in your room. The only litter boxes are in the basement and in my bedroom closet

I also have two horses Lucky and Luna that hang out in my pasture. I also rent out my pasture to a farmer so you will also see some cows around

On the main level is the living room, dining room, kitchen, my bathroom and my bedroom. The basement is a separate apartment listed on here

Wonderful Stay

We loved staying with Rosie. One of the most kind and great hosts I've had. The property was perfect. It was a little getaway from the cities. Not to mention, the dogs were angels as well.

This little gem in the country is very welcoming. When we arrived we were greeted by Rosie and her two sweet dogs. She also has two friendly indoor cats. We were able to enjoy an outdoor bonfire with Rosie the first night we were there. She had two other guests, one of which we met.She was also very nice. Our room upstairs was quite comfortable. We were able to use the upstairs bath. We also saved money because we could use one of her kitchens to cook. We visited Oxford Zoo and park, Niagara Cave, Commonweal Theatre, saw waterfalls, bison, deer, birds, bunnies, and took a tour throughout a Lanesboro Amish community. Rosie is very nice and we enjoyed our stay at her home and our visit to southern Minnesota.

Just what we needed!

My small family of eight...wink... enjoyed staying at Rosie's hobby farm. We had two big bedrooms with six beds, and the up stairs bath. The kids loved being able to interact with all the animals. Rosie is a great host who is more than willing to interact or lay low. We were able to get to Mayo quickly and we hope to stay there again when we return!

Rosie is delightful

Cute house and the owner is working hard on the property to make it a nice place to stay. She works hard as a nurse, and appears just as hard at her beautiful property. It's not a hotel (although she had things set up as nice as some hotels we have stayed at.) Don't expect perfect, but it was perfect for us! We loved Rosie, the dogs, and her lovable kitty.

Friendly pets and people

Rosie , the dogs and the cats were all very friendly. Didn’t realize the property was right next to Highway 52 but we didn’t hear the traffic sound with the windows closed and the air conditioning running. Very convenient location for adventures in Rochester and Lanesboro.

Great Host -- Almost Like Home!

Let's say you have a college friend with a place out in the country with two huge bedrooms and a full bathroom upstairs. You stay in comfort with WiFi, USB charger next to the bed, plenty of towels, soap, shampoo, dental floss, a sweet ironing board with two irons. and blow drier for your hair. In short, all the comfort of a hotel with the homy-ness of a Midwest farm. Refrigerator and freezer for YOU, and washer and drier in the basement. Plenty of land if you want to walk around outside, and a couple of big mellow dogs to tag along with you outside, and inside a very sweet kitty cat.

Very gracious hostess.

The main thing to understand about Rosie's home is that she lives in this home along with her dogs and cat. Be prepared to mingle with animals inside and out. If Rosie is not home when you're there,, you can't be afraid of animals. We enjoyed interacting with her inside animals as well as her outside animals. Her goats were adorable and agile escape artists. Our bedrooms were cozy and comfortable. Rosie is a great communicator and generous hostess. We had a nice time and had full run of the house. Thanks Rosie

Country farm house retreat!

Stayed here for my moms visit to the Mayo! Quick drive to the Mayo each morning! Rosie is a great host very friendly! Works hard to accommodate to your needs ! We enjoyed sitting out at one of her many tables in the back yard visiting and relaxing after long days at the Mayo! We really enjoyed the dogs daisy and Cody! The two cats Smokey and max! They made the trip fun! Very friendly animals and they love to eat scraps! Rosie is working on her home to make it even better ! Beds were comfy for my family of 6 and had free roam of home and felt very comfortable here ! We would definitely stay here again if we need to. Thanks Rosie for a nice stay during our hard times ! Back on the farm!

This property is an actual farm. If you’ve been on a farm you know what to expect. Coming from Chicago, though formerly from a small town, I knew to bring my boots and clothes I could get dirty in. You need to know and accept that, before booking. I came to town for a trip to the Mayo Clinic, where I didn’t have the best time for various non-medical related issues. Part of the reason I chose to stay on a farm is the animals, as they tend to relieve my anxiety. Rosie’s two dogs were always happy to be pet, she has the friendliest cats(2) that I have ever met, not to mention her horses, and the cows. I found myself actually spending time outside, and when you have fibromyalgia, that’s an awesome feeling. Sure I’d get tired but I pushed through that because it was surreal to walk the property. I even caught my first toad! Rosie made sure everything was ready when I arrived. The room was a nice size but still felt cozy. She has a great sense of humor and I enjoyed our talks. The bathroom was shared with a fantastic couple across the hall. Absolutely no issues. For me, it changed my perspective on living in a major city. Waking up to see Lucky, one of the horses, was a great joy especially as we walked around together. This is the experience I wanted and it was much more than I expected.

Country living, but not far to the city

Country experience! You will hear barking dogs, hungry calves, lonely goats and cat's purring. You will also hear real living; family laughing around a backyard bonfire, kids playing an animated game, trying out new recipes, sampling Rosie's "squeaky" cheese from Wisconsin, and getting information on little-known local action. The family that was there when I arrived spent time at Goldrush Days in Oronoco. My husband and I were surprised how much we learned and the memories we shared at the SPAM Museum in Austin (NOT about email). The town highlights local eateries that feature SPAM on their menu, including Culver's, which serves a delicious SPAMburger. Another guest steered us toward Cannon Falls for an awesome local diner breakfast at Erik's, topped off with fresh peach pie and cobbler. The countryside is beautiful, and perfect for my passion for adventuring. You are minutes away from the big city, and just as close to corn fields as far as you can see. I found a quaint little place called Zumbro Falls. The owner of the local gas station/campground/hotel asked if I was lost. "I'm not lost. I know exactly where I am, but I could use some help getting back, as I have no idea how I got here." On this adventure, I loved the beautiful farms and variety of landscape. Beautiful river valleys, 'hills' that made my ears pop, winding roads, and cute random villages and towns. My trip to Rochester was centered around scary health issues. The Mayo Clinic is an excellent system, thorough and personal. We were struck by the consistency of care and concern from everyone there, from those who greet you, valet, wheelchair escort, volunteer at information desks, staff who make contact with random people who look lost or confused, people at the check-in desks, nurses, medical assistants, and other medical professionals and doctors, as well as veteran patients willing to share tips to navigate the Mayo subway. I never felt like I was less than a full partner in each of the specialty teams involved in diagnosing and developing plans of immediate and future care. That said, you are also not far from emotional and spiritual healing. Rosie's property allowed for quiet reflection as well as the healing that only fresh air and sunshine can provide. I'll definitely stay here again, when in town for follow-up clinics and evaluations.

Not At All What I Expected, Home Is EXTREMELY Filthy!

To begin this review, the pictures in the ad are old and as such are misleading. The opening picture with the nice lawn up to the front porch is all muddy with a lot of (big) dog feces on the ground, on and near the walk paths. When you sit on the front porch, all you can smell is dog feces. Front walkway was dangerously coated with ice and front door handle had mud/feces on the handle. There was dog feces on the front porch. Entering the home, the floor and carpet runner were full of the same fecal mud. The room I was in was dusty and there were cobwebs in every corner. Upon turning back the bed covers on the shorter of the two beds, there were several potato bugs under the pillow. (They are not dangerous and I flushed them down the toilet.) The upstairs bathroom was absolutely filthy! Fecal matter on the toilet seat/bowl, urine on the floor next to and behind the toilet. Bits of old toilet tissue and body hair STUCK to the floor next to and behind the toilet and ON the toilet. The bathtub/shower had a lot of mildew in it and when I pulled up the rubber bath mat, the underside was full of mildew/mold. The plastic shower curtain was blackened and slimy with mildew/mold. The sink had caked on dirt and body hair as well as toothpaste on the surrounding wall area. The over-the-faucet shelf was coated with hair and old shaving cream. I cleaned this bathroom myself. The downstairs bathroom was even filthier than the upstairs one including: Mold on the ceiling above the shower, used Q-tips on the floor, feminine product garbage on the floor, etc. The kitchen: Dirty microwave, dirty toaster oven, dirty utensils, dirty drain tray with broken glass in it. One of the two available fridges had spoiled food in it and was extremely dirty on the shelves and had several crusty spills on the bottom. Open package of raw chicken dripping from the top shelf... The laundry facilities in the basement were quite adequate except for the electrical wires dangling down between the washer and dryer--right where water leaks on the floor! Also this is where the cat boxes are and there was a lot of litter on the floor as well as being really smelly. This property claims to have satellite/cable television, it does not. All in all, if there were zero stars, that is the rating I would have given this property. The filth in this home caused me a lot of anxiety and I left early because of it. At least the pets were nice.

Quite Poor

This place was extremely rustic. Dark, dirty, old, not well kept. I believe the owner to be a nice person but this place did NOT meet our expectations.
