About this property
Escape To The Country In Comfort And Style In An Eco-Friendly House
Have you ever wanted to have the quiet and solitude of being in the rolling countryside away from the stress of the city but still have all the comforts of a modern, luxurious house with a porch and rocking chairs to sit on while you commune with nature and watch the world go by? This 3 bedroom, 2 bath house on a working farm has all of this while being only 1 hour's drive from downtown Kansas City (45 minutes drive from World's of Fun, Oceans of Fun, and MCI airport), 20 minutes drive from St. Joseph Missouri and Missouri Western State University, 15 minutes drive from Atchison Kansas and Benedictine College, 15 minutes from Snow Creek Skiing, and 40 minutes drive from Fort Leavenworth Kansas. The house has 1 large bedroom with ensuite bathroom and two other large bedrooms with a shared bath, wood-burning fireplace, large front porch, large open plan kitchen, dining room, and all of the modern conveniences that you'd expect from a house that is less than 20 years old. If it's peace and quiet that you're after then this place is what you're looking for. It's a half-mile from the state highway on the top of a big hill so you have a panaramic degree view in all directions. The house is ideal for watching sunrises and sunsets but if you want to keep current on everything happening in the rest of the world then you can connect to the Wi-Fi. Bed linen, pillows, and towels are provided for all 3 bedrooms. Our guest safety is always one of our top priorities and the house has a full basement with a concrete floor and walls that is accessed via a staircase through the laundry room. In the event of a storm or tornado warning guests can go to the basement and be safe until the storm passes. The basement also has a separate secure outside walkout staircase with a steel door that provides an exit directly away from the house into the yard in case of a catastrophic weather event. We recently added solar panels to harvest the sun's free electrical energy and we feel good that we're doing everything we can to lower our house's use of commercial electricity that is generated using coal in this area. The panels are held in place by ground-mounted racks that are several meters away from the house and there are photos of the installation on this site.

The host was wonderful. Loved that it's in a rural area so there's less light pollution. You can see so many stars! Very peaceful.

This guest mentioned that they enjoyed being in a rural location which meant that they could see many more stars than they would be able to see if the house was in an urban setting and this is a key benefit if you’re interested in astronomy.
Jason and his colleagues were great guests and they appreciated the peaceful country setting and the amenities that the house offered them. Always good to receive feedback like this.
Staying here was an amazing experience! Check in was super easy, owners communicated everything we needed, kitchen had all the essentials and the land was just stunning! We will definitely be back!

Since our house is located a short drive from Benedictine College in Atchison Kansas we have many repeat guests who stay with us while visiting sons or daughters attending this fine institution. In fact you can see the College buildings on the horizon from our front porch.
Great house! Large kitchen, nice dining room with great windows for viewing, comfortable living room, nice sized bedrooms and nice bathrooms. Large front porch with chairs for enjoying the sunrise and sunset. If you love peace and quiet, except the the cows mooing which we loved, this place is for you. Would definitely stay again.

Another very positive review from a very wonderful guest who really enjoyed their stay in our house. This kind of feedback is what we strive for from every one of our guests.
We have family in the area and this feels like a home away from home for our visits.

We love it when our guests feel that our house is their home away from home when they stay with us especially when it is a guest who has stayed with us before.
This was our second time staying here, and we had a great experience. Very nice place and owners/managers very easy to deal with. Great place to stay and we hope to stay again in the future!

Wonderful feedback from this guest who took the opportunity to walk round the pastures surrounding my house and take in the wildlife.
Property gave us time to relax and exclude from city life yet be close to the city for exploring what the state has to offer on our vacation.

My sister and I are always glad to get feedback from our guests, and especially pleased when we get a very positive review like this one because this is what it's all about. We're starting to get repeat visits from guests who stayed with us several years ago and this is very rewarding.

Great feedback from another satisfied guest. It's always good to get an affirmation that other people enjoy our house and it's amazing location as much as we do.
About the host
Hosted by Property Manager/Owner
I was born and raised on the family farm and currently have two sisters, my sister-in-law, and a niece and her husband living in separate homes on the farm. I live most of the year in the UK and rent out my house on Vrbo when I’m not working on the farm.
Why they chose this property
This part of Northwest Missouri is one of my favourite areas in the USA and love having four seasons and plenty of room to roam.
What makes this property unique
Being on a working farm is pretty unique and the position of the house in the middle of a 600 acre section of land with a 360 degree view a half mile from a state highway provides lots of peace and quiet for our guests.
