The Vagabond is located in the private residential neighborhood of Long Bay Estates which is far from the busy hotel beaches but a quick drive to everything you need. Since there is no public parking or access to its beachfront and no through traffic, you'll find a peaceful uncrowded getaway from Myrtle Beach's hubbub of activity.

The house has 2300 sq ft of upstairs spacious living areas for combined family vacationers. Hardwood oak and pine floors throughout the house help those with allergies. A well-equipped kitchen with a cabinet of spices and a garden of herbs is popular with the cooks. From the breakfast room and back porch, watch eagles catch fish and swans swimming on the lake or paddle it in our canoe and get up close with the turtles and ducks.

Enjoy the 60-foot long front porch with rockers, a picnic table, and a double swing. There are kiddie gates at the stairs on both porches. When the kids tire of the playground under the house they have only a 200-yard hop and skip to the beach. From there a ten-minute walk lands you at the Myrtle Beach State Park with its playgrounds, nature center, trails, fishing, and coffee and ice cream at the pier gift shop! Also, enjoy riding our bikes around the neighborhood or along the paved paths of Market Common.

The living area is upstairs above the large garage and screened-in porch. No elevator. For your added health and safety in December of 2020, we added an electronic air purification air scrubber that uses hydrogen peroxide in our HVAC system.

A Family Oasis of Joy and Comfort: Vagabond House, Myrtle Beach
I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Vagabond House in Myrtle Beach for a week-long family vacation, and I must say, it was an experience that exceeded all expectations. From the moment we arrived, it was evident that this charming abode was a haven for families seeking a perfect blend of comfort, entertainment, and relaxation. The Vagabond House offered a delightful range of amenities that catered to the needs of our group, which included several children aged 8 and under. The spacious and well-appointed rooms provided ample space for both adults and kids to unwind, while the thoughtful inclusion of toys, games, and child-friendly décor added an extra touch of warmth and comfort. The house's interior was meticulously maintained, showcasing a blend of modern convenience and coastal charm. One of the standout features of our stay was the house's commitment to providing activities that catered to both young and old. Boating enthusiasts among us were thrilled to have easy access to boating facilities, which allowed us to explore the serene waters just steps away from our doorstep. The icing on the cake was the quick and exclusive access to a pristine beach, allowing us to enjoy leisurely walks, beach games, and breathtaking sunsets. If you're looking for a destination that caters to the needs of multi-generational families, the Vagabond House in Myrtle Beach is an excellent choice. Its welcoming atmosphere, plethora of activities, and comfortable accommodation

I'm a school librarian and sixth of nine siblings who inherited this property. In 2015 my husband and I bought out my siblings. The picture of me is from the beach when I was about 3 yrs old. l am holding a toy phone to my brother's ear. Please call me if you have any questions. I still like to talk! :-) My earliest memory of staying here is when my grandmother rented this house out but kept the master suite (the current Ship Mates'Room Hall & Bath) for herself as a getaway. We came to visit and had to sleep in a tent in the back yard.

Why they chose this property

My grandmother Elizabeth Sadler bought this house in her retirement as a pre-fab ranch in 1969. She made the newspaper for being the first house brought to the area on a tractor-trailer. She chose Long Bay for its quiet residential neighborhood and proximity to art workshops at Spring Maid Beach. You'll want to visit the art museum there. Many paintings in the house are from her years painting there along with my mother's who took painting classes there more recently. My father's, my daughters, and my artwork also grace the walls. Momma Bette as she was known, called it 'The Counting House' and she rented it yearly to military families from the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. In 1989 Hurricane Hugo hit and a neighbors bungalow knocked her off its foundation; thus, she became the 'Vagabond' (wayward traveler). Our father designed the additions and she was rebuilt on pilings according to FEMA guidelines. The Air Force Base closed in 1993 at which time she started renting weekly during the summer months. Siblings recently recalled special one-on-one trips with Momma Bette to the beach when they were young. (Obviously, to give our mother a break from so many children! 😂) Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoy it to this day. Momma Bette passed away in 2003 at 102 years old!

When we go down we find it most comfortable with two families and the grandparents.

What makes this property unique

We love the quiet atmosphere in our residential neighborhood away from the crowds, but if we want entertainment it's all minutes from our house. We love walking (the little ones run all the way!) to the pier for ice cream at the State Park. Murrell's Inlet is one of our favorite places to find local seafood. The Vagabond is a lovely peaceful place to get away from it all!
