About this property
Little Yellow House: Walk to Downtown Staunton
Welcome to Staunton! This historic home was one of the original workers' cottages in the 1800s. It's located downtown with a short walk to shops, restaurants, bakeries, Mary Baldwin University, Gypsy Hill Park, and Blackfriars Playhouse. It has all the charms of an older home like original pine floors and tavern-style doors, but with a modern kitchen, bathroom, internet, and AC. Free street parking.
The cottage is a perfect blend of old and new! Built around 1855, the home was restored in 2017 and much of the original character and materials were preserved, including original pine floors, tavern-style doors, a hidden stairwell to the loft, and a fireplace (non-working). The home also has all the necessary creature comforts of today: high-speed internet, heating, air conditioning, and a full-sized washer/dryer! Please note the fireplace is only decorative.
The bathroom is located on the first floor and has a restored clawfoot tub. This means there is a steeper step into the tub than with a modern tub, so you might choose to use the provided step-stool to help with access.
The kitchen is small but functional: it has ample supplies to cook a delicious meal using the ingredients you've picked up from the Farmers Market or local surrounding farms, including a full-sized refrigerator, microwave and stove (there is NO blender, or dishwasher). In the morning, enjoy a fresh cup of coffee from the Keurig while you sit on the covered porch in the back.
Behind the kitchen, you'll find the first bedroom with a closet, king-sized bed, and a vanity .
You can access the two twin beds in the second bedroom loft through a set of hidden stairs located behind a door in the kitchen. The stairs to the sleeping loft are very steep and uneven, so it might not be an ideal spot for smaller kiddos.
We welcome dogs. Please do not leave them uncrated. There is no fence in the yard, but the neighborhood is great for walking. We have a $100 pet fee. No cats, fines may apply.
This house is ideal for friends traveling together, families, business travelers, or a couple seeking a romantic getaway. It is very cozy, and a space we love being in during our frequent visits to Staunton. We look forward to sharing our house with you!
