The Space
THE MILOS
The Milos, which in Greek stands for windmill, is one of the dearest historical icons of island’s history.
Located in the Old Village of Alonnisos, 'Milos’ was built in 1850, holding ever since, a vital role in the local community, ensuring flour provision to the local community, as well as being a gathering point during local festivities.
In 2015 the internal part of the windmill, along with the surroundings, were restored thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign. The restoration added an elegance to the historical past, turning the experience of being a guest of the windmill, into a friendly portal to those wishing to explore the island’s past from a different angle..
Enjoy your breakfast with a view to the Aegean sea, or a retsina after returning from the beach and tele transport yourself to the tales that Milos will start revealing day after day…
INTERNAL
A 4 floor stone building the Milos can host up to 6 people and is divided in:
• Ground floor: dinning table, cute small kitchen and small toilet;
• First floor: bedroom with a double bed;
• Second floor: bedroom with 2 single beds which can be united;
• Third floor: bedroom with 2 single beds which can be united.
An original stone stairway connects the rooms. There are no doors or any separation between the rooms, rather than the fact they are each one on a different floor.
EXTERNAL
The windmill is surrounded by a circular terrace, where you enjoy your coffee or meal and have a very special view of the coast and the sea.
Interaction with Guests:
Dimitris my husband will be in the island the whole summer and will come by to check if you’re well installed, giving all necessary tips that will turn your staying in Alonnisos memorable. You can also call him if you need anything.
The Neighbourhood:
“Milos” rests in a very privileged location. Naturally ventilated and with a view to the limitless blue of sea and sky. At a walking distance there is a bakery, a mini market and numerous stone alleys perfumed with rosemaries, waiting to be explored and reveal gradually the mystery of the Old Village.
Getting Around:
WALKING and PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
Alonissos and the Old Village have great walking pathways that can take you to magnificent places. In the summer there is a bus that you can pick at a walking distance from Milos, and which will connect you to the main villages of Alonnisos.
DRIVING: FREEDOM AND SPECIAL PLACES
We do recommend renting a scooter or a car (rental available at the island) so you can be free to follow your own schedule and reach the more remote places, where true natural beauty awaits to be discovered.
House Rules:
Be gentle with the house and neighbors. It always works!
Use the bin for toilet paper in the bathroom.
We are pet friendly but we ask from our guest to ensure that no damage or disturbance will be caused.
Smoking is allowed in the external areas only.
Other Things to Note:
Vehicles are available for renting on the island.
In August though, because of the high demand, it might be hard to get a rental vehicle so plan ahead to avoid hustle.
During the highest season in Alonninsos, the old village is quite vibrant. In the evenings, there is live Greek music and busy restaurants on the surroundings of the windmill. If silence is a priority for you, the central part of the Old Village, including the windmill, might not be the best choice for you between late July and late August.
