About this property
Fantastic Place To Get Away From It All!
Whether you are looking for a family getaway, fishing or snorkeling excursion, or just days spent walking and exploring magnificent white-sand, deserted beaches with crystal clear water, this is your perfect destination.
This beautiful, centrally located townhouse is located in the idyllic Great Harbour Cay Marina. All decks face west - giving guests amazing views of sunsets! This is the perfect 2 bedroom 2 bath townhome to get away from it all!
1. How do I get to your island?
There is an airport on Great Harbour Cay, and is usually accessed either from Nassau or Florida.
If you fly into Nassau (NAS) there are two regularly scheduled flights each day on Le Air at 7:50am and 4:30pm from Nassau to Great Harbour Cay, returning from Great Harbour to Nassau at 8:20am and 5:00pm, and the flight is about 17 minutes. The flights are reliable and cost $140- $160 per person round trip. Email me for the Web URL link for additional questions:
Alternatively Le Air offers charters on their smaller plane that carries up to 5 passengers, and they charge $510 each way for up to 5 people. The advantage of their charter is that you can pick the times yourself.
The other option is to fly from Opa Locka Airport, which is about half way between Miami Airport and Ft. Lauderdale Airport to get a direct charter flight to Great Harbour. Markus of Air Charter Miami is great and they are very safe and reliable. The flight is 45-50 min and carries up to 8 passengers. Email me for the Web URL link for additional questions.
If there are just 2-4 people, it may be more economical for you to fly through Ft. Lauderdale with Tropical Ocean Airways on their regularly scheduled flights on Fridays and Sundays, which cost about $614 per person round trip including taxes and fees:
Departure in FLL at 1:00 PM, arriving in Great Harbour at 1:50 PM
Departure from Great Harbour at 2:30 PM, arriving in FLL at 3:20 PM
Email me for the Web URL link for additional questions.
If you have any questions about flights, we can help answer them.
2. Is there shopping on Great Harbour Cay?
There are two grocery stores and a couple of liquor stores on the island. There are plenty of non perishables for sale on the island like drinks, bread, pasta, cereal, as well as milk, butter, etc. There is also Colby cheese, salami and usually ham and turkey cold cuts. They also usually have lemons, limes, oranges, romaine lettuce, cabbage, potatoes, tomatoes, plantain and sometimes grapes, avocados, cucumber and bananas. However we recommend that our renters purchase any specialty fruits and veggies as well as steak, chicken, and cold cuts either in Nassau or Florida (depending on where you fly from) and bring them with you on the plane. There is also a great new shopping service in Nassau where you can order your groceries ahead of time on line, and they will be delivered via the daily flights from Nassau on LeAir. Email me for the Web URL link for additional questions.
3. Are there restaurants on the island?
There are several good restaurants on the island, and some notable ones are-
Beach Club: about a 5 minute drive from our property. They serve breakfast and lunch everyday and then sometimes on Fri and Sat they serve dinner too. Best cheeseburgers ever.
Coolie Mae's: Cute restaurant in town on a hill with great sunset views. Really good fish and conch. You can also call and order fresh bread or take away food.
Pool Bar: Open Air restaurant in the Marina a few minute walk from our Townhouse. Great atmosphere with BBQ grilled steaks, chicken, and seafood.
Carrie Earl: A British couple runs the restaurant here and it is a really good mix of European and Bahamian food, with a great bar.
There is also a fun BBQ at the Marina every Friday night, as well as a themed dinner (Italian, Cuban, Creole, etc.) every Saturday night at the Tamboo restaurant next to the Marina.
There are several other small restaurants as well.
4. Do you have a coffee maker?
Yes. But we recommend that you bring your own coffee because the island pretty much just carries Folgers.
5. Do we need a car?
We do have bikes available for you to rent for a minimal charge, but you will find a car convenient if you do decide to venture away from the Townhouse. Most things are within 2-3 miles, but in the sun and with a few hills this can get far by bike. There are 2 rental car companies in the marina that makes it easy to arrange a rental of a car or golf cart.
6. How do I get to your property?
Our property manager Wally, who is somewhat of a celebrity on the island and is immediately loved by our guests, will pick you up at the airport and bring you to our property (about a 5 minute drive). He will also get you oriented as to where the shops and restaurants are located, and provide any local knowledge you desire. He can also bring you fresh coconuts if you ask!
Wally will also make sure you have fresh water to drink as the tap water is drinkable but a bit brackish. He also collects the garbage every couple of days.
Arthur Balford (Stinky) is our favorite boat captain and is available for day charters ($300-$550) per day depending on what you want to do. He can take you fishing, snorkeling, conching, swimming or to Flo's for lunch on Little Harbour. He is great fun!
Bone Fishing can be arranged with Jimmy Darville. It is $400 for half day and $600 for a full day. If you have always wanted to try bone fishing, this is the place!!
If you would like someone to come and cook for you at the townhouse, we can give you some contacts. Usually you have to provide the food and they will do all the prep and cleanup.
Always keep an eye open for fresh fish on the docks in the evening. Herbert usually goes out at least once a week and can provide fresh fish. Also, you can ask Wally or Arthur about where you might get/buy fresh fish or lobster.
Island Nurse is Frenchie
There is a Phone in the townhouse, only available for local calls.
Calling the states can be very expensive best to have people from the states call you on Skype on the above number. Make sure you put an international data plan on your phone before leaving the states. Only AT&T works on island. Please email me if you have any other questions around this.

About the host
Hosted by Stephanie
Our family has been vacationing to this island for 4 generations, and find it an unparalled paradise which is not at all touristy and has much to explore and enjoy! A paradise destination close to the US for those who prefer to escape hotels, traffic and the noise of more crowded islands. The small local population is extremely friendly and helpful.
