A lovely home situated in view of the lake front, beach and deck near the lake and also a deck out front. We loved being on the beach. Very cosy. We didn't use the hot tub although the setting is most perfect if you like it.The surrounding area is very majestic and quite overwhelmingly beautiful. It is however quite a way from Thunder Bay so if you planning on seeing sights in the area there is a bit of a drive.

Thank you for the 5 star review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and incredible views of Lake Superior from the multiple decks on the property - the area really is overwhelmingly beautiful. Star gazing at night in the hot tub overlooking the world’s largest fresh water lake is simply magical. The Cottage is located far enough away from Thunder Bay (14.78 miles) so there is no light or noise pollution. Most guests appreciate being close enough to TB for grocery and convenience items but do not necessarily want to “vacation” there. We hope you were able to enjoy the incredible hiking trails just behind the house with panoramic views of Lake Superior and the many day trips to parks, natural and historical sites close by. We also recommend guests visit our local craft businesses in the area, which produce the most incredible artwork, pottery, hydroponic fresh produce, breads & baked goods, award-winning cheeses and dairy products. Regardless of what you chose to see & do in the area, the main attraction is always directly in front of the house: The Great Gitche Gumee. It’s really amazing a lake so big can make one feel so small and we hope everyone gets the opportunity to experience it.
We enjoyed our stay very much. The cottage was well appointed and comfortable and the lake front location was lovely.

It was a pleasure hosting you over the Christmas holiday when chaos can interfere with time to reflect about the things & people that bring the most joy to our lives. So glad you enjoyed your stay & best wishes for 2025.
The property is clean, comfortable, and placed in a spectacular setting. The cottage is well maintained and positioned steps from the north shore of Superior. A beautiful setting close to all the outdoor activities the region offers.
Carolyn is an awesome host- the property was immaculate, and exactly what my wife and I were looking for for our 27th wedding anniversary!

We are honored you chose The Cottage to celebrate your special event and happy you enjoyed your stay. We are very particular when it comes to clean and glad you recognized the effort it takes. Please come to visit again some time soon!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage is cozy, well-appointed, clean, and has all the amenities one could desire. Communication was very good with the owner, and we appreciated the tips on some things to keep in mind when crossing the border from the US to Canada (no bear spray!). Would definitely stay here again.

This is an incredibly clean, comfortable and relaxing place to stay right on Lake Superior. The amenities are wonderful: a hot tub on the deck for watching the sun rise in the morning, a patio over the water, bonfire pit and sunny places to sit (especially in warmer weather!). Perfect for unwinding!
The cabin was cozy and fresh. Very clean and the views were top notch. Very quiet area, with ample driveway, yard, spacious decks, and wonderful hiking trails nearby. We all had a wonderful time. Beautiful spot.

Bienvenue! Bi-zhaazhig! Velkommen! Welcome!
Why they chose this property
The first time I traveled to this area, "awestruck" was the only word that came to mind. As I meandered through the dramatic, semi-mountainous terrain, the road crested to reveal the sudden grandeur of Lake Superior. Seeing the vast water dotted with pristine islands and inlets, I was instantly entranced. Years later, that exact same view still takes my breath away every single day.
What makes this property unique
Located just one hour north of Grand Marais, MN, and right across the Canadian border, this stretch of the coast offers a completely different landscape. The topography shifts into rugged mountains, unveiling beautiful islands and inlets hidden from the Minnesota side.
Situated just six miles off Highway 61, The Cottage sits directly on the water. It offers total peace and seclusion away from the chaotic seasonal traffic of the North Shore. You get the best of both worlds here: quiet isolation, easy access to nearby Thunder Bay, and close proximity to local farms, hiking, and historic sites. Still, my absolute favorite place to be is right here at The Cottage, humbled and spellbound by the majesty of "The Great Gitche Gumee."
Merci. Miigwesh. Takk. Thank you.
