About this property

Fiddlehead Cabin With Outdoor Sauna by Riding Mountain National Park, Clear Lake

Chosen by the Huffington Post as 'One of the top ten coolest and cosiest cabins in Canada' ... this enchanting cabin is fresh and luxurious. Nestled into the rolling wilderness, just 15-20 minutes south of Riding Mountain National Park, the Fiddlehead Cabin offers the rare perk of ‘Complete Privacy in Nature’! It sits perched on an elevated lookout offering a 180* panoramic view of the meadow, valley and majestic spruce forest beyond. The covered porch offers a choice of both screened-in protection and open-air freedom; perfect for viewing wildlife from the comfy deck chairs. Nature lovers and romantic couples enjoy basking in the splendours of this unique Shangri-la setting.

Many visitors choose to split their time between the Fiddlehead Cabin and Riding Mountain National Park where the possibilities are limitless. Just a scenic drive away, this unique Park is full of charm and thriving.

At the end of a full and busy day spent up at the Park though, many guests comment that they can't wait to retreat home to their tranquil little cabin in the hills; sip a glass of wine, prepare a delicious dinner, and sit back on the porch to watch the wildlife in the meadow and wait for the sun go down! Quite simply, they experience the very best of both worlds.

Complete with excellent wifi this unique cabin remains open year round and offers a most tasteful interior ambiance. Cream colour Adobe walls are accented by rich hardwood floors, antique furnishings and a combination of internationally collected and hand hewn artworks. It is meticulously clean and well stocked with fresh towels and silky bamboo sheets.

A hiking trail right from your front porch winds you across the meadow, valley and into an enchanting spruce forest that envelops the resort . Hike, bike or snowshoe into the forest and explore 160 acres of rich unspoiled wilderness on groomed trails. Mountain bike for miles on quiet country roads. Fish off the creek bridge just minutes from your cabin, photograph wildlife (the Great Grey Owl loves it here) sketch, paint, read and write. Enjoy the wildflower meadow, butterflies and the smell of cranberry bushes after a fresh rain. Listen to birdsong serenades on warm sunny days. Watch the sunrise and the moon and stars travel across the vast horizon.

Last but not least … the now famous 'Sauna in the Woods' is the ‘piece de resistance’.
Just a few steps from your front door and privately tucked into the spruce grove, this enchanting Dr. Zeus style creation promises to be therapeutic and relaxing. Cedar lined with a steam option, you will feel yourself decompressing almost immediately.

Previous guests of the Fiddlehead Cabin have penned the following phrases to describe their experience: ‘Paradise on earth’, ‘Remote and exotic utopia’, ‘Whimsical far-away haven’, ‘Hideaway of idyllic tranquility’.

Magical Getaway
This was just the place we had been imagining. It was so cozy and warm and wonderful. A whimsical paradise. Cathy was so amazing and everything was just perfect. Plus, the sauna. We couldn’t have asked for a better place.

Peace and quiet!
Very peaceful with a wonderful view of a gorgeous meadow:). The only sounds were the hummingbirds! The resident Great Grey Owl made an appearance which was amazing! Very nice host, with good communication. If you’re looking to get away from it all, this is the place!

If soul-food were a place this would be it.
This cabin is an absolute GEM. The cabin is absolutely darling. It was clean and cozy with gorgeous little attentions to detail at every turn all compiled to make it a place of peace. I absolutely loved the wood and iron work and - THE VIEW. The entire property is soul-nourishing from the meadow, to the woods, to the mythic little cedar sauna under the pines, - looking just like a fairy retreat! The property was clean, bright, well cared for, and well provisioned. I felt that every little detail had been attended to before I could think to want it, and it left me feeling cared for by the hosts. This proved certainly to be the case! As soon as I met Cathy at check in it was obvious that this is a labour of love. It was the perfect retreat for a weekend of escape and rest. I can't wait to find my way back again soon!

Hi there! I live on the property adjacent to the Fiddlehead Cabin and pride myself in providing a quality experience for my guests. I designed both the cabin and sauna and have enjoyed managing them for many years. I’m a naturalist at heart and have studied and worked in many divisions of the environments sciences. I just love meeting my guests, many of whom share similar backgrounds and hence are attracted to this wild, natural setting.
A strong yearning 25 years ago precipitated my escape from the city … and I have never looked back. Upon discovering my dream location, my partner and I renovated the original old farmhouse that graced the property, where we still reside today. A barn/workshop/studio was designed and built shortly thereafter and has provided me with the ability to delve into a creative bent. Combining natural elements from the forest with recycled heritage wood and antique tin ceiling tiles - I have had the pleasure of creating many pieces of artwork that are now featured in the Fiddlehead Cabin.
I look forward to meeting you someday (perhaps after the pandemic passes) but more importantly I look forward to hosting you and hope that you have a wonderful holiday in this little shangri-la. Cheers!
