About this property

Muskoka Birch On Lake Rosseau - Minett, Ontario

Dare to Compare! We are Covid19 compliant. You will NOT find a more affordable cottage than the Muskoka Birch on Lake Rosseau with a total up and down living space of 2300+ sq ft bungalow layout and 9+ acres of property amenities offered by the Cedar Rail Resort community on any of the Big Three Muskoka Lakes. We cannot take on renters if Ontario mandates no short-term rentals during an emergency. Renters are responsible to know what the federal, provincial and municipal protocols are. We also have the right to continue with provincial guidelines even during a "no mandate" time. e.g. facemasks; double vaccinated with evidence; use of sanitizer; social distance with neighbours.
We rent all year but ONLY accept weekly or monthly rentals from mid-June to after Labour Day weekend. Arrival is to be no sooner than Sat 2 pm and departure Friday, no later than 5 pm to allow for cleaning and disinfecting during an 18 hour space between renters. Rates can change per season; high season includes all national and provincial holidays. We request $500 fully refundable damage/loss/excessive cleaning fee paid directly to the owner. CanadaStays/VRBO collects an additional commission fee + cleaning fee. The other similar cottages nearby go for more than 1.5-3X more. That is because we do not offer linens, towels, pillows or a laundry service. With those small things, what can you do with an extra $2-4,000/week? Located in Minett, Ontario, the Muskoka Birch cottage is in the hub of the Muskokas. It can ONLY accommodate no more than 8 people at any one time within the 4 bedrooms - 2 up and 2 down. 2 bathrooms upstairs: 1-3 pc ensuite in the MBR; 1-4 pc on the main floor. The total of 8 includes day-time guests for the rental time. Children under 2 are not part of that total. No water toys/boats provided due to legal and insurance advice. The Birch has a NO pets or smoking policy. Bell high speed Internet at 350gb/mon. Bell satellite TV with basic channel package. Part of the Cedar Rail Community, the Birch is situated on a quiet bay just 2 minutes south of Minett 7 and 15 minutes north of Port Carling. This cottage embraces a beautiful pine highlighted interior and has all the comforts of home. Our cottage is on 9+ shared acres on the waterfront, accessed from the mainland. The spacious setting features a tennis court (new surface 2020), gazebo, fire pit, lawn furniture, and a full beachfront. All are rare for a cottage in the Muskoka region. Rates are adjusted seasonally.
The "Birch" is situated on a quiet bay facing east in the bay in which Minett is cradled.
Nearby, Port Carling offers a boat lock to Lake Muskoka and the "hub" is also located in the heart of various resorts, golf courses, and unique communities that are typical of Muskoka. Subject to the local health and the specific venue, please check for schedules and services. For example, the Marriott Resort and Cleveland House (1869 and closed as of 2020) have traditional public venues such as restaurants, bars, and boat rental in Wallace Bay Marina.
Cedar Rail is a friendly community in which the 10 members are owners, some of whom rent. Others live there full-time. Regulations are established by the community to safeguard its neighbourly and Muskoka setting. The property is wide and spacious with more than 227 foot beach waterfront. The boathouse is privately owned.
Lake Rosseau shores are directly in front of the Birch cottage but a safe distance for children's safety. The land gently slopes for easy access. If you have a boat, you will be allocated our Birch slip only. The beach is wide and VERY safe with a gentle slope for 20-30 meters into the lake. You are on the western side resulting in diminished winds on such days. The bay is calm when the lake could be rough. The Birch is surrounded by colour from the natural surroundings and the perennial gardens in the spring, summer, and fall. The fall takes the prize however with a full-colour cavalcade. In winter, the quiet days, star-filled skies, and white blanket of snow and ice capture our attention. The natural hues of rocks, sky, forests, and waters that surround you become a painting right before your eyes and the sounds of nature surround you.
AC, Propane Furnace, and Water treatment installed in 2019. Interior repainted 2019 and 2020. Brand new fridge June, 2020. Parking is for 4 cars. Walk-out from the basement. One exclusive boat slip marked #10 on dock (new 2020) provided upon request 1 month in advance. Firewood is free onsite. Bell Satellite TV. DVD and TV Movies provided as well as VHS videos. The electric fireplace is in the living/dining room.

It's cheap but not worth it. Just spend the extra cash on something nice.
the main problem with the place is that it's just fragile and old. Spent the whole time tip toeing around the place trying not to hit our heads on low hanging pots or corridors. Everything shakes when you walk making me think at any moment all the little trinkets surrounding the place might fall or break. if you plan on sitting in one spot the whole time and sipping a decaf coffee this is the place for you. also i would definitely not bring kids and i wouldn't bring more than 4 people.

Wonderful escape
This is a wonderful property! Will was amazing to deal with throughout the entire process, was available at all times and made sure we felt at home! The house is more than enough space to accommodate 8 people. We didn’t feel cramped at all. Other major benefits included the boat slip for our pontoon, the sand bottom lake and I can not tell you how amazing it is to find a cottage with air conditioning. It just makes everything so much easier. We would definitely return!

Cottage was very clean and tidy upon arrival. Great location in the middle of the Muskoka 3 big lake
Had a great experience, Will was great to deal with prior to arrival and it was easy and smooth. Cottage was very clean and had all the amenities that you would need for a vacation. Great location too, right in the middle of the 3 big Muskoka lakes. Would suggest this cottage to anyone.

Why they chose this property

The Muskoka Region was identified as the number one place to vacation by National Geographic Magazine in 2011. Some things never change. We are also one of the most economical to rent: Dare to Compare. I have vacationed up here since 1957 with my family. The gradual slope to Lake Rosseau is child and senior friendly. Lake Rosseau is connected to Lake Joseph and Lake Muskoka, both of which make for a variety of options on the water and by land. The lakes allow for small boating and skiing and freeze over in winter to allow winter activities. The region offers much - from the Arts to festivals; from historical sites to bike trails; from going to fine dining and shows.

What makes this property unique

Reduced rates and health benefits b/c you bring your personal bed linens, pillows, blankets, towels. No professional laundry services or concierge is provided. Covid19 Compliant with cleaning and disinfecting/sanitizing. Take a gorgeous tour around the lakes. You can travel from Rosseau through Windermere, on to Bracebridge through Gravenhurst, up to Bala and back to Port Carling and Minett. Features include: Muskoka Drive-In; Gravenhurst Opera/Theatre House; Bala's world-famous Cranberry Festival and The Key to Bala; nearby Parry Sound and Bobby Orr Museum and Chippewa cruises; Gravenhurst Steamships, Segwin and Sagamo; Port Carling Museum and Locks; Saturday markets; multiple golf courses; curling bonspiels; winter carvels; Autumn Cavalcade of Colours; Spring Maple Syrup festivals; hockey tournaments; road races; bike trails; horseback riding trails; snowmobiling; ice fishing; summer antique boat shows; resorts.
