About this property
NAN Ranch Lodge - Group/Family Retreat Near Silver City and Gila Wilderness
In the remote, serene Mimbres Valley in Southwestern New Mexico, NAN Ranch guests enjoy access to river, mountains, canyons and desert, thousands of acres and hundreds of miles of ranch roads from our rental housing at the historic headquarters. On a slow day, visitors might simply stay home with acres and acres of lawns, trees, gardens, mountain and valley views, sunny poolside garden or shady private spots and worlds of solitude.
This listing is for the Lodge, that can accommodate more than 25 when fully furnished with 6 twin bunks, 3 twin-over-full bunks, 2 double/double bunks, a private full bed, + couches and roll-aways. The Lodge has huge kitchen, eating, and gathering areas, 2 group bathrooms with 3 showers/3 toilets each and one separate bathroom for moderately disabled (ambulatory) guests, yet is still cozy for moderate sized groups as well. The Lodge's multiple-stall bathrooms, huge kitchen and public areas are designed for your family reunion, country wedding, retreat or friends group, especially if rented with one or more of our other accommodations.
Other available options listed elsewhere in this website include
• 1912 Rancher's House with 1950s High-Style Western interior that accommodates 8-12 with 3 bedrooms, 2 sleeping porches, 2 baths, new gourmet kitchen, large porches, fountain patio, fireplace, and more.
• a pair of Patio Apartments adjacent to the Rancher's House that sleep up to 5 persons each;
• our newly available Gardener's Cottage that sleeps up to 4;
• the Bunkhouse Cabins, less luxurious but newly renovated, that sleep 2 to 6 each; and
• the
• Rental guests may also park one RV or camping trailer nearby, though we do not offer hookups.
• For very large groups, combinations of rentals, and events, a consultation with the ranch owners is recommended.

The Lodge is typically furnished to sleep 22, though it can be cozy for fewer, or extra beds can be placed in the smaller of two gathering lounges to increase the capacity. There are two lounge areas, a huge kitchen and flexible eating area, a private, separate bedroom with full-size bed, three bunk rooms, two group bathrooms and one single bath. Front and back lawns and a patio offer plenty of outdoor space.
The Rancher's House was built around 1912, a sprawling version of the western bungalow, and refurbished and furnished for the owners' grandparents by WR Dallas Studios in 1951. The custom-designed furnishings are classic high-style mid-20th century Western: knotty pine, iron, pistols and horseshoes. The kitchen was renovated in 2012-2013 with built-in Thermador appliances, bungalow-style lighting, and cabinets designed to match the original. The house has a giant living room, 2 service bars, 4 eating areas, washer and dryer, 3 bedrooms, a sleeping porch, 2 full baths. The house opens to a fountain patio that accesses two apartments.
The Apartments each have bedrooms, sitting rooms with additional sleeping space. The downstairs apartment has 2 full beds, while the upstairs apartment has queen beds. Both have new bathrooms, microwave ovens, and micro-fridges. The upstairs apartment has a terrific view, claw-foot tub, vaulted ceilings and a sleeping loft. The downstairs apartment has tile floor and can accommodate guests with small dogs.
Bunkhouse Cabins are affordable and rustic, appealing to hikers, bicyclers, and others who love the outdoors. They're furnished with twin beds, baths and kitchens, and there's plenty of space for gear. Dogs are welcome for a modest fee.
The Gardener's Cottage is cozy and central to the headquarters. Its single bedroom has one full-size bed. The sitting room, which has a fold-out sofa, is open to the kitchen are opened via a large service window and bar. An antique claw-foot tub with shower adds atmosphere to the bathroom, which was remodeled in 2016. Well behaved canine guests are welcome in the Cottage.
Whether you want quiet and solitude, a leisurely visit with nature, or rigorous hiking, trail running, or bicycling, your time at the Y-Bar NAN Ranch will be fulfilling. We can confidently say that there is no comparable property, anywhere, that is so open to guests' personal visions for a fulfilling holiday from the outside world. Public parks and preserves are full of other adventurers, but the NAN is yours to share with only a handful of others, and there's so much space and variety you need never see another guest unless you wish to. Just as important to most of our guests is that this historical working ranch is neither resort nor "dude ranch": we don't "entertain" you, schedule you, or crowd you. You design your experience.
Though you're in one version of heaven just staying at the NAN Ranch, you're also close enough to make day trips to the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, Gila National Forest, City of Rocks State Park, Silver City for fine dining and fine art shopping, La Esperanza Vineyard just up the road for wine and sunsets, and other interesting and sometimes quirky corners of our neighborhood.

About the host
Hosted by NAN Ranch Cattle Company, LLC
The Y-Bar NAN Ranch's owners are the Burford and Lang families, descendants of Bill and Clara Hinton, who operated the ranch from 1949 until their passing in the 1980s. Though we were raised away from the ranch and have worked "city" jobs, we call the ranch home, and want to share its wonders with our guests.
Family members are on hand to welcome and show you you around, to answer your questions, and to make sure you have what you need in this wonderful house.

Why they chose this property
No place rivals the Mimbres River Valley for light, atmosphere, a sense of peace, a thrill of adventure, a chance to challenge and discover oneself. In the special verdant spot where the NAN's homes and facilities lie, there is a comforting awareness of the blending of prehistory and history, of communities and individuals accustomed to both hard work and reliance on nature's abundance. The NAN Ranch's quiet, remote beauty is regenerative.
