Weekend getaway

I was a little disappointed with the length of time to get to town, based on the listing. It was closer to 45-50 minutes to get into towns rather than 37 minutes

Best weekend EVER

My husband reserved this property for my 40th bday. It was exceptional in every aspect! The property was beautiful and SUPER secluded which we love. There was abundant wildlife everywhere. Would 10/10 recommend it to anyone who loves seclusion but also likes having all the amenities. Also the hot tub was perfect!

Nice break for the family away from the city.

Cozy place, definitely off the beaten path. We were looking for a comfy hill country getaway and found it. One detail that wasn’t obvious to me from the listing is that the loft sleeping area and master bedroom are adjacent upstairs. Not an issue for us, but one something not totally clear from the posting. We definitely enjoyed our week out at the ranch and, while there, did make it out to both Enchanted Rock and Fredericksburg.

Way, Way Secluded

This property is amazing. Just know that it is way, way secluded. Like 15 minutes from a highway that is 20 minutes from a town. To us, that was a plus. The cabin is awesome. It sits at the bottom of a Texas mountain (okay, probably a hill, but in Texas, that is a mountain). It has a fire pit and a hot tub outside. Inside, was super clean. From other reviews, my wife was a little worried about scorpions, but we did not see any - to her delight. The place was clean. The beds were decent - two kings and a twin. You probably want to bring your own pillow which we did, but the ones there were pretty flat. The water pressure is not great, but when you are on a well that is pretty common. The washing machine did not work or maybe it is set up not to work with guests. We were just going to wash our sheets and towels on our way out. We did run into the owner of the property when we got there and he reminded us of Tim McGraw (maybe it was him). Super nice and friendly. Part of me wants to tell you not to stay here so it will be available to us next time, but we give it a 10/10. We are definitely coming back, often!

Live Scorpions

We arrived at about 8PM on the first night and killed 4 scorpions on the main level within the first hour. Once we finished unloading, we checked the beds upstairs and found a live scorpion in one of the beds. We decided to pack up and head home and we let the owner know that we wouldn't be staying with that many scorpions. Owner apologized multiple times and acknowledged that the scorpions were very bad this time of year and despite spraying quarterly, the scorpions still try to get in because it is a rock house. I asked the owner if we would be able to recover what we spent and she texted back "Yes of course, I'm so sorry". Fast forward a couple of weeks and we notice that several hundred hasn't been refunded. Reached back out to the owner and was told she needed to keep a substantial amount of the rental, the VRBO fee, and the cleaning fee because "this is a business" and "Over the 5 years of renters I've never had a complaint about scorpions so kinda hard to believe there were 5 scorpions in the house and the beds" (check review from Sept 2017). She also said that she thought what she did refund was "pretty generous". I get it, the house in on a ranch we should have been tougher and just dealt with the scorpions, but with 5 year old and 3 year old daughters, it just wasn't going to happen. At the end of the day, we stayed 2 hours, it cost us several hundred dollars, and the owner accused us of lying. It's a beautiful place - just watch where you step and check the beds before you hop in. Also - and we learned this the hard way - take pictures of the scorpions before killing them.

Great place- Beware of hunters

My sister and I were looking for a secluded getaway to relax and based on all the pictures and reviews thats why we chose this place. There were even comments on our check in instructions that led us to believe that we’d be the only ones on the property besides the owners but that was not the case.Never was it mentioned or pictured that there was a hunting cabin within a hundred yards of this house or that it might be used during our stay. Knowing two men were there altered our behaviors because of our lack of comfort level/privacy.We specifically waited until dark to go to the hot tub, however they soon drove up in the side by side and were hanging out outside with the porch lights on. The loft beds in our house did not have curtains and is within straight view of the cabin. Since they were still outside at bedtime, we felt the need to keep everything dark to avoid them seeing us changing and getting into bed and they stayed outside, with two bright porch lights shining directly into the loft, until 3am.As soon as we saw them when we returned from town, we texted the host to ask if she knew the guys and she responded that yes she knew them from college and assured us they were good guys. While I’m sure they are perfectly good guys, they are still strangers to us and still made us uncomfortable for them to be so close. It should have been disclosed to us at booking and had they not been there it would have been 5 stars all across the board.
