Excellent cabin getaway

Cabin was very comfortable and accommodating. Love the walking trails. We didn't catch any fish but had fun trying. It should be noted that you can't take more than one or two quick showers before running out of hot water. We weren't able to fill the Jacuzzi tub with hot water because we ran out before it was filled. We didn't see the bikes that were listed in the amenities, but there was plenty of wood for campfires, the Hammocks were very relaxing, and it was a very quiet area. The cabin was very clean, they had lots of books and games that we could enjoy while we were there, in the kitchen had plenty of items so we could cook our own food. We had an excellent time.

Privacy

We had a lovely time at this vacation house. There was plenty of room with 4 bedrooms. It was very private and the property has a small lake with a pier. The only complaint we had was the extreme hard water and the stains on all the towels. I would still recommend this property. We got to see a lot of nature. If not for the hard water issue, we would have given this a 5 star.

Great place for family with kids

We had all these things planned for our week in Wisconsin. We ended up doing very little of it - the house was so great that the kids wanted to stay and fish, play on the playset and run with the dog in the big yard. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need and more. No need to even bring any spices. The game closet was extensive! We brought some and didn't even unpack them. The owner called with great tips on what to see and do - the ski show, a powwow - and which lake spots were best for swimming. The perfect place for a week with family.

Absolutely perfect!

We needed a place to unwind, refresh, relax, and enjoy each other's company. This oasis of peace checked every box. The cabin is large but cozy. The deck, fire pit, docks, trails, and hammocks provide limitless relaxation opportunities. I strongly encourage getting up before twilight, taking the trail to the upper lake, and enjoying the serenity that is imposed upon you as the sun rises. One of the highlights of our stay was visiting with our hosts, Miss Kim and Mr. Steve. They are very kind and friendly folks and we loved learning about the cabin's history, how the lakes were formed, as well as finding out tidbits of info about the local area. Go to Kropf's Meats, right outside of Bowler for you meats and cheeses, the quality and variety is exceptional and the prices are reasonable. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. It's a 657 mile drive from my home to Camp Okee-Dokee and worth every single mile.

About the host

Hosted by Kimberly Vele

Host profile image
Kim and Steve take pride in making your vacation a memorable experience. We love the peace, quiet and scenery of the north woods and enjoy sharing this wonderful property with others who feel likewise.

Why they chose this property

Our home is on other side of the meadow from this vacation rental. We bought the property because we wanted to preserve the log home which had fallen into disrepair. After considerable renovation, we opened the property, which we named Camp Okee-Dokee, for renting in the summer 2011.

What makes this property unique

If you have a crazy job and schedule and just need peace, quiet, and are content with star-filled evenings and watching wildlife -- this is the perfect place. We've hosted many friends and family gatherings. A few families have made this their annual spot for a decade now. There is plenty of space for everyone. Being together, playing games, reading, sight seeing, swimming, skiing, hiking... or just hanging out to relax is all on the itinerary at Camp Okee-Dokee. And, if you like gaming action or live entertainment, we are centrally located within 16 miles of three native-owned casinos. As of 2022, we still do not have wifi in the cabin, but fiberoptic has been buried up to the house. We hope the final installation will be completed to provide internet service to the house sometime yet this year. For the more than a decade that we've had this business without internet service, we are particularly grateful to all our loyal patrons who came to enjoy the few days or weeks of quiet, peaceful "unplugged, off-line time" at Camp Okee-Dokee.
