This is the front of the coach house. Stone built, with metal diamond pane windows, original to the courtyard. The steps are leading up to a loft with an old fireplace. It’s part of a medieval complex of buildings with various additions through the centuries. The original Norman tower which is now incorporated into the Castle & is available to rent through VRBO as The Medieval Bolthole, the Castle itself, The Great Barn & the Coachhouse which is a very sweet little place and “country”!
The space People react very warmly to it! The wooden staircase rising out of the living room is typical of this kind of old Irish country cottage. The dresser although not very old, was the main piece of furniture in an Irish Country kitchen. It had shelves, drawers and cupboards - all in one. It has excellent Wi-Fi, a kitchen, bathroom with a separate shower & a bath. Two king-size beds. Logs are supplied for heating.
Guest access A car is required as we don’t have buses out here. There is plenty of parking as the courtyard is large. But there is a good bus service from Navan.
Other things to note There may be other guests staying in the Castle - or us - No loud boogieing after midnight!

Great communication from host. Host met us upon arrival and showed us around. Was a rainy and blustery day, so he had built a nice warm fire for us prior to our arrival. We enjoyed the fact that we were not close to any cities and the quiet it provided at night. Nice to walk the grounds and look at the many flowers that were blooming. Would definitely stay again!
We used this as our "Home Base" for our trip and it worked out perfectly. Dave and Sue are amazing hosts and go above and beyond for their guests. We will definately be back:)

Thanks me darlins! It was very nice to meet you as well & the house was left so clean!
Cozy accommodations with a wood burning stove, ability to cook your own food in the kitchen, gorgeous grounds. Close drive to sightseeing and shopping!
Property was bigger & even lovelier than expected. The hosts were incredibly amenable. Would give 5 stars for comms whilst on site, lack of comms prior to check in is why I rated it 4/5We wanted a quaint and cosy escape and that’s what we got, it was fabulous with a wonderful French feel. Blessed by fabulous weather we were able to sit outside The owners were really great, they were there but not at all in our faces, they gave us a lovely guided tour of their other facilities too and effortlessly assisted us with anything we asked for (extra towels/toilet rolls etc) We were even gifted a bottle of wine on our last night which was a really nice touch. Although we’d booked for 4 guests(maximum allowed on the booking site) they didn’t hesitate to let us have an extra guest stayKitchen was a little mishmash, quaint & serviceable & lots of stuff provided but would be better if things matched a little better. A few more forks & an additional frying pan would be very helpful. The lounge was far far larger than anticipated, with a lovely well stocked fire which had been lit for us, two huge super comfy sofas & lovely day bed it was terrific Cleanliness in the upstairs area was a bit of a shock initially & let it down just a bit, very stained carpets, stained bed sheet in one room but it didn’t affect our stay or our comfort. We slept brilliantly, had a truly wonderful stay there & would not hesitate to book again Thank you Sue & Dave. We had a truly wonderful time
We had a wonderful stay. Our Carriage House was fantastic. The grounds were beautiful with blooming flowers, shrubs and trees. We arrived and was greeted by Dave with a warm fire in the fireplace. Dave and Sue were quick to resond to any of our messages. I hope we are welcome back.

Good morning Karla, thank you for such a great review! We try to make guests as welcome & as chez vous as possible - we’ve all experienced the opposite! With all the sunshine the garden looks great this year. So glad you liked it & you’re welcome back anytime! Sue’nDave
Our hosts, Sue and Dave met us as soon as we arrived. They were amazing, Dave brought wood and lit a cosy fire, Sue brought coffee and a pot of tea. What a welcome! They even gave us a private tour of their home in the castle and the outbuildings. We were given the freedom to walk anywhere in the entire estate. Help was even provided when our Sat Nav was acting up. We could have spent our whole vacation there, and were very sad when we had to leave.
We had the best time staying in the coach house at Durhamstown. It was charming, comfortable, and the best fun for our kids. They loved exploring the property and sharing their adventures with us. The hosts were incredibly kind. Dave showed us around the castle and welcomed us, and he and Sue had us over for a lovely evening after dinner one night. Navan is a charming town and we loved being close to the Hill of Tara and Newgrange, but also having easy access to Dublin. Can’t recommend this place enough - thank you!

This place gets excellent reviews and we are sure that others have been very satisfied. However, when we arrived it was obvious that no one had been inside to ensure that everything was clean before we came. The owners live on site, so we are not sure why this would be.The place was full of living and long dead spiders. There was bird poop all over the floors and countertops. There was even dried bird poop on the pillow. There was also dirty laundry in the laundry machine. The bathroom was filthy. It looked like a gas station bathroom. We were immediately turned off so much that we decided to leave. We told the owner that we understood that cancelling our stay meant that we had no right to a refund. We did not ask for our money back, but said we would appreciate it if they would consider it.Not once did the owner apologize for the state of the place. Instead she said that a swallow must have gotten in and what should we expect from a country property. She said that we could go out for an hour and she would clean it up for us. Since she had no sense of remorse or responsibility for the situation we lost all confidence and told her we would not be staying. She told us that she needs renters to keep the roof over their heads. IOW, she was trying to make us feel like the bad guys.We are very reasonable people. We did not demand any money back. What made us most upset about this experience was that the owner never apologized and made us feel like we were unreasonable.

Fijn verblijf
