About this property

Wonderful ocean view, private pebble beach, great hospitality

The Bosun's Chair is great for friends, couples, singles, or families. A light filled home with open concept first floor and 4 bedrooms upstairs. The 13 acre property is located on the Old Cabot Trail midway between Baddeck and Ingonish. The lower part of the property is a 300' wide stretch of private pebble beach.

The Bosun's Chair is 2 km from the scenic Englishtown Ferry and centrally located for visits to national parks. There are a number of local hiking trails, craft shops and artisan studios in the area.

The Bosun's Chair reflects the Nautical character of the owner - a Transport Canada certified Ship's Master and a Canadian Recreational Yacht Association certified sailing instructor.

Nestled on the shore of St. Ann's Bay, the Bosun's Chair has mountains in the backyard and a view of the ocean beach and Kelly's Mountain in the front yard.

There are 4 bedrooms upstairs in the older 'main' portion of the house, with 2 bathrooms - one upstairs (complete with jacuzzi tub) and one on the main floor adjacent to the front entry. All the downstairs floors are local hardwood. The upstairs floors are red pine, the ceilings are white pine.

Appliances include refrigerator, oven, microwave, washer and dryer. All bedding is supplied as well as all dishes, silverware, various kitchen utensils, coffee makers, pots, pans, etc. In short - just bring your own clothes!

The Captain, when he's not at sea, maintains a small apartment attached to the back of the main house (questions and concerns are dealt with promptly).

The Bosun's Chair is situated in an ocean-front rural setting. The nearest grocery store is in either the lovely village of Baddeck or in North Sydney - the mainland terminus for the Newfoundland ferry. Ditto for the nearest gas stations, so guests are advised to purchase foodstuffs and gasoline before arriving at the house.

Cape Breton Family Vacation

This was the perfect home base for us to explore Cape Breton. Lovely rustic home with lots of room. Quiet, private property perfect for relaxing. We also enjoyed swimming at the pebble beach and the kids loved exploring for cool rocks and shells.

Cape Breton Get-A-Way

Our one week stay at Bosun's Chair in Jersey Cove, N.S. was great and relaxing. Daniel is a great host. He responded quickly when making arrangements or adjustments with our stay as well as with anything we needed when we were staying there. This 4 bedroom house is spacious and the setting is beautiful and quiet. You have great access to the beach with a short walk and it is a nice location to do day trips or hikes on the Cabot Trail. If you're looking for an East Coast experience, this is a place to stay and enjoy. Cell service is spotty but there is a great internet connection and service in the house. Thanks Daniel.

Good home base to explore Cape Breton

Older property with a "cabin in the woods" feel. The home was perfect for our 3 night stay in Cape Breton. The central location made it easy to explore the area.

Wonderful cottage in Cape Breton

Our family had a phenomenal stay in this seaside cottage. The accommodations had character and were perfectly tidy, with everything we needed to be comfortable. Easily accessible to the Cabot Trail. And Daniel was a wonderfully gracious and flexible host who helped make our vacation perfect.

Cape Breton stay

We really enjoyed our stay at Bosun’s chair. We liked the location for a base while we toured Cabot Trail, visited Baddeck and Fort Louisbourg. It was a quiet, cottage feel and we enjoyed unwinding with our family in this serene location at the end of the day. There was a heat wave and no air conditioning but we left the windows wide open and used the fan provided, along with our own which was very comfortable.

Lovely Property

My husband and I and our two adult children stayed three nights in mid-July. We found the property as described. The beds were comfortable and the upstairs bathroom has a lovely skylight. The home was filled with a collection of beautiful artisan made pieces and antiques. My family especially loved the collection of books. On our second night, we made a fire on the beach and spent a beautiful evening watching the mist roll in from the sea. Great location just off the Cabot Trail- we would not hesitate to stay again.

Perfect Stay

The host was not only most gracious and accessible but has so much of his personal craftspersonship in the house. Many special artisan pieces from others were a joy to find. The location is near the ferry across St. Anne's Bay which turned out to be very helpful as we explored both ends of the island. The beach was right across the street (only ferry traffic to and from) and my photographer partner spent many hours under it's spell. After our excursions, coming "home" to the "yellow house" (Bosun's Chair) was a warm welcome. Lot's of hot water, great laundry, and an adequate kitchen. A great stay!

Wonderful Stay

This little house is everything I expected it to be. Quiet, lovely and relaxing. This is the first time using Verbo and it did not disappoint. The owner was super nice and very hospitable, giving us a small tour of the home. There was plenty of information left on a table to give us ideas of what was in the area. The best coffee press! I had to go buy my own after using it :) Thank you Daniel for sharing your home with us. I would definitely stay again.

Cape Breton's finest!

I was in Cape Breton to attend a funeral. Coming back to Daniel's home was so comfortable. The property was peaceful. and the large home was so inviting. It had all the amenities I needed and felt like home. The beach was very nice and there were small caves at low tide. Lots to explore. Daniel was so accomodating to allow visitors who had missed the funeral. I'm sure he wondered why the guests, other than myself were changing regularly. He even allowed for a late check out as I had surprise last minute guests. Thanks for the awesome holiday!

A perfect place to rest while on our adventure

A homey, rustic stay that fits the area. The home was large and roomy with more than enough places to sit and sleep for our 6 (ages 16 to 83). All the cooking utensils you may need. Easily accessible to everything we wanted to visit on the Island. We enjoyed having Danny sit and visit with us (our invite) as we heard some great stories about his adventures. He will definitely keep his distance and give you privacy. We invited him and enjoyed his company. Great resource about the area & community. Our 16 year old loved the Bay right across the street. We would stay here again and will recommend it to others who head this way. I think all of us enjoy the Bousan swing chair a few times.

325 feet of private shoreline

...I wouldn't call it a "pebble beach" as some of the pebbles are the size of toasters. Spent a month at Danny's VRBO property. He was courteous, attentive to issues that arose, but at the same time invisible in a positive way as he resides in the adjoining apartment. I have to be honest and say I did have to trap a couple of mice....both toilets overflowed, the B-que was questionable, and no mid month housekeeping/cleaning. That being said, you are renting a place on the doorstep of the Cabot Trail, if you are looking for flatscreen TV's, fast internet, room for 5 adults, gas, groceries etc nearby.....you are no doubt going to pay alot more. All of Cape Breton is accessible for a days outing from his rental location. I have rented 6 different monthly homes in North America thru VRBO, all within the same price range. Danny's place was competitive with my experience.

Not what we were expecting

When we first arrived we were a little apprehensive as it was quite remote with no towns close at hand. It is certainly perfectly accessible to the east side of the Cabot Trail. But if you wanted to tour the west side you either did the full circuit or take the ferry across to Hwy 105 & go for a hour drive to Mabou side. Our main concern was that there was nothing in walking distance & we had to take the car everywhere. We were hoping that we were in a small town that we could walk to kitchen parties, veils he, events, shopping or eating establishments. The house is nice, beds very comfortable but was lacking connection to technology like a local tv channel, working DVD player & radio, outdoor adirondack chairs and board games to keep us occupied in the evenings. The BBQ was very tiny and not suited for family cooking. Overall the stay was acceptable but unfortunate not much to our liking. Think this is suited more to someone who wants to hike the trail & only need a place to sleep. Deb the caregiver was our saving grace & was there to lend a helping hand making our stay more comfortable.

The house is charming typical of a farmhouse from the 50s. The beds are fine the kitchen quite workable the location is lovely. There isn’t actually a view of the beach from the house, and it is a bit of a scramble to get to. It is a great location for exploring the Cabot trail.
