Rod and Wheel House is great for fly fishing and relaxing in Lumsden. The Oreti River is nearby and the Mataura and Waikaia Rivers are very accessible by car. The accommodation was very comfortable and we did not want for anything.

Thanks for your review. Glad you enjoyed your stay!
It was spacious, had a lovely garden. Had a good location in a quiet neoghbourhood. The kitchen was well equipped. Only issues noticed were the blown light in one room and we didn't recieve the keybox through bookabach before arriving at the property.

Thanks, Ishani, for taking the time to review our special holiday house. I'm glad you liked the spacious house and my beautiful garden. Yes, the kitchen is well equipped, furniture and beds comfortable and it is in a quiet location. My apologies about the blown light bulb. We do keep spare bulbs in the bottom drawer of the kitchen, and we leave contact details so the House Manager can come and help our guests with any hiccups. Had you contacted Lynd-Marie she would have come and sorted out the lighting problem. My apologies regarding the late arrival of the house entry details through Book-A- Bach. This is actually out of my control. I actually think you enjoyed your stay and possibly giving me 4 stars would have been fair! One star was certainly a novel experience for us! kind regards Owner!
Great house, very comfortable with excellent beds made for a nice end to a long 5-week trip through the South Island. Just wish we caught some more fish :)

Thanks Erik, glad you enjoyed your stay in Lumsden. Yes we always wish for more netted trout for our guests! We can provide ultra comfortable beds, fully renovated house, information about rivers and access points but not promise that the trout are easy to catch. This challenge actually keeps me eager!
Great well equipped house in convenient location for our family get together Only tiny issue was we never got lockbox code via bookabach but owners were very responsive when contacted directly so it was all fine

Thanks Lyn for taking the time to review our property. I will review my details in the Book-A-Bach website to make sure my contact details are up to date. I'm glad you and your family enjoyed your stay! regards Marina
We loved it. Very nice interior and garden, comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchen. Only drawback: the thick carpet was quite dusty and triggered a dust allergy we didn't know about until then...

Thanks Heidrun for your comments. Our carpets are a thin pile loop and are completely vacuumed between each guest. The carpet is also quite new and meticulously shampooed with an industrial cleaner annually.
Lumsden is surrounded by grassy paddocks and many members of my family who visit need to take antihistamines due to pollens and grass spores. This may possibly have been the source of your problems? However, I'm glad you otherwise enjoyed your stay!
Would highly recommend.
Great spacious property in great condition. Lovely outdoor area to enjoy the sunshine.
Walking distance to park, supermarket and local shops.
Incredibly kind property manager who ensured our child had high chair, cot, linen and even Surprised her with a welcome gift.
Would definitely recommend and we will likely be back to stay again.
Thanks for everything!

Excellent accom, great for site seeing and fishing
My family and I stayed at Rod and Wheel in October. Lumsden is a fantastic location for fishing and site seeing around the region. We enjoyed day trips to Queenstown and Walter Peak Farm (a beautiful drive through mountains and valleys - and an incredible BBQ lunch at a working farm on the other end, but you must book in advance). We stayed with four adults and a baby. The owner provided a cot, highchair and baby cutlery which made us feel very much at home. There was even a baby bike available! The house is warm, comfortable and has all the amenities you could possibly need. The garden was full of Spring flowers and the outdoor seating and grass were perfect for playing games and relaxing outside. We had a fantastic, relaxing holiday and will definitely be back for more fishing next time!

Thanks Dan. You were perfect guests and you are most welcome to stay again!
Marina & Roger are perfect hosts as they provided us with very valuable local information as recently Southland suffered severe flooding. They also provided us with various activities that we prevailed. Thank you Marina & Roger
It was very easy to find this suburban property situated in a very quiet part of Lumsden. We found the property very clean & comfortable that had all the amenities one finds at home. The ladder had basics to make a kitchen functional and local food store was walking distant away
Marina & Roger, thank you for making our stay memorable. Please pass our thank you to your staff & manager

As good as ever!
Spotlessly clean. Fully equipped to a high standard and very well maintained. Very quiet yet perfectly located for all village services. Owners very prompt to reply to request for booking and gave lots of helpful advice particularly about fishing. Have stayed several previous times and will do so again.

About the host
Hosted by Marina and Roger Lindsay
The owners have had 25 years experience with owning and managing property on the shores of Lake Jindabyne in the Snowy Mountains region of Australia. They now bring their love of fly fishing, gardening and alpine habitat to Rod and Wheel House in New Zealand.
Why they chose this property
Rod and Wheel House was purchased in 2013 and is adjacent to Oreti River House. Both houses offer self contained accommodation in a private garden setting in a beautiful part of New Zealand. Both houses have been renovated to a very high standard and offer superior levels of comfort and privacy in the friendly town of Lumsden. The town offers fabulous brown trout fishing, excellent off road cycling, is near to some of New Zealand Great Walks and Conservation Areas and is close to many beautiful sightseeing spots.
What makes this property unique
Rod and Wheel House offers a memorable summer or winter destination for guests requiring something tranquil, cosy and comfortable. It is only one hours drive from Queenstown, Te Anau or Invercargill and provides quality accommodation for visitors interested in a wide range of sporting and tourist activities. A unique place to stay on the South Island of New Zealand surrounded by spectacular rivers and scenery. The house is very snug and offers a real home away from home. We have tried to include many special comfort items such as complimentary WiFi and lots of DVD's. We have high quality kitchen features and very comfortable beds and couches. Enjoy the beautiful South Island of New Zealand while staying in a really well appointed and welcoming home.
