Good value for a stay in the forest with nice river access. Cabin is off-grid as mentioned but all amenities are there. There is quite the DVD and VHS collection available as well, some nice classics in there. Check in was simple and host was great.
My family and I had a lovely stay in this off-grid getaway. The house is extremely well stocked and tn host made everything about our stay so convenient and easy. We would love to come back in the summer!
A great location to get out of the city and enjoy nature. Within walking distance to two beautiful spots by the Koksilah river and nearby to Shawnigan Lake. Kiki was prompt with responding and we had no issues during our stay.
Totally away from the loud bustle of any town. Peace, privacy and back to nature. For that you give up cell phone service; but you can still text...so, perfect! Helping nature by using solar power; you MUST be consious of turning off lights, tv, etc. Bit of a drive to get anywhere..So, over all. Small price to pay for get back to nature experience
For 6 adults and two babies, this cabin in the woods type home was fantastic! Kiki was so welcoming, and the location was a lovely home away from home. Lots to do for the kids outside (lots of space and toys), and both a big fire pit and small propane- fire pit for the adults. The area is about 10-15min to Shawnigan Lake, which is fantastic for swimming and enjoying summer days or there's a watering hole a few minutes up the road to enjoy!
Kiki was incredibly responsive and helpful to any questions or needs we had.
Beware - there are two enormously cute, friendly and cuddly fur babies onsite (dogs) which while all of us are dog lovers, if you're not, these two adorable dogs will melt your heart if you get to meet them! ♥️☺️
Thanks Kiki!
Great spot! You'll read mixed reviews on the location/accommodations. But if you read what Kiki offers, it's exactly that. Essentially we knew what we were getting into and it was a perfect and peaceful get a way. We had 2 kids, my husband and I and my mother in law. We had plenty of space for everyone to have their own room and then some. Lots of outside space for kids, along with toys and play equipment. We spent our days in Victoria and as north as Sidney. It is a bit of a drive, but it was worth it for the space and accommodations. There is no way we would have found the same accommodations closer to the City. Would 100% stay here again.
The property was lovely! A fun outdoor area to hang around at and let the kids run around. What I didn’t like was the fact that there was no privacy and the host doesn’t state that they will be on the property while you are there. Also didn’t like that they advertised that there was a hot tub and to my surprise there was no hot tub at all. The whole reason I booked it was because of the hot tub. There was minimal supervision on the hosts kids in the evening time so when I was trying to enjoy family time and sit by the fire the kids stared at us while we tried to enjoy family time. Over all place was nice and clean and a really nice area away from cell reception.
Luxury off-grid, but too dark for us. There is a lot to like about the place. Excellent internet and an unbounded backyard paradise for youngsters. However, we lacked a view and sunlight. Not obvious to us from the ad was that the unit was not stand-alone. The building is divided in two, and we lacked access to the advertised deck of the other unit occupied by owner/agent. The only view was standing in the kitchen in the upper level. The rest of the unit was on the bottom level, sunk part-way into the ground on a cool dry modern concrete pad. There were windows, but the low level view is blocked by RVs, fencing, wood supports etc. The kitchen view was also not viewable from the main kitchen table - so lights on in the middle of the day as other window blocked by lattice etc. On the plus side, everything was modern and worked (except dryer and bbq needing maintenance). Having the other unit occupied by someone looking after the place also meant the generators were started automatically when stored solar power ran low. Swimming holes and nearby hiking also great. Older folks may want hiking poles to manage steep descent.
This is a true gem. The location cannot be beat for a forest getaway. The swimming hole nearby was definitely a highlight. The cabin is comfortable and well stocked with items. It has a rustic feel to it. We had an amazing time staying there and I would happily return!
* there is a couple things on the description that is a touch misleading- it is only 3 bedrooms, not 4. The fourth "bedroom" is the living room with couches and a TV in the photos. It has doors on it so it can be private and the couch is comfortable enough to sleep on, but in my opinion that doesnt count as a bedroom.
Also there is no AC. The bottom floor is cool becuse of geothermal temperature control, but the upstairs (which has the kitchen and dining area) does get warm as it just had the fan to cool it off. Not sure why the listing had an AC icon in the ammenities.
That doesnt take away from what a wonderful place it is, its just worth noting for your planning.
The outdoor play space is a wonderful touch. We really enjoyed the trampoline and outdoor living room. Some of the kids play equiptment needs some TLC but there is lots of great stuff there.
If you want a rustic getaway in nature, dont hesitate on this place.
We had the pleasure of hosting a birthday party at this cabin and it had everything we needed and more. From a fully equipped house, comfortable sleeping quarters with ample space for extra guests to camp in tents. It's a 2 minute walk down to the river, and tons of property for kids and dogs to play outside. This was a mixed group of adults and kids who hadn't been able to celebrate in about 5 years together, so as expected a bit more noise and excitement happened but we had lots of space inside and out for people to play games, talk and relax. We spent evenings around the campfire, and days down at the river. BBQ was a main cooktop for all guests and we left there feeling recharged and grateful for the time spent together. Kiki was a great host, and even though she and her family live on site it was not a distruption to our celebrations whatsoever. We cannot wait to bring family and friends alike back to this hidden gem spot!

Location wins
Cabin: a small shelter or house, made of wood and situated in a wild or remote area. This is what we expected, but it wasn’t what we found here. The place, although spacious and in a great location, is part of the owner’s house. The living room has a wood stove (which is the only heating source) but is dominated by a huge fitness machine. Great kitchen, nice bathroom, lousy beds with sink hole mattresses. To make this place its money worth the (friendly) owner must step up to earn a better review.
Super cozy and homely place with all the amenities and supplies we could possibly need.
The chickens and dogs on the property were a bonus for the kids.
The owners family who live on site are very friendly and readily available to answer any question.
Totally our style of rental property, and we enjoyed visiting the many towns and tourist attractions nearby, we will be back!
It’s an off the grid property the cabin is large and well stocked.
Apart from swimming in the river. It’s a good drive to most things.
It’s definitely a quiet location nestled in the trees suit people who enjoy nature.
We had a lovely time at this property. It's definitely out there but that's what we wanted and the host prepared us well for how things operate differently. A great getaway!
We had a really good time in the house with a large number of toys in the garden for the kids. It was pretty isolated but we were able to hike and bike around and discover amazing places.
We had a great time at this house which as advertised is in a secluded setting with access to river swimming spot. There is ample sleeping and relaxing space in the house which is really well equipped for an off grid setup. You might need to plan a shower rota for a large group but the water is fantastic and the house has everything you could want.
This place was not well suited for us, as far as eco not sure about that as there is a solar panel but the generator runs from 8AM to 10pm daily, and as soon as the generator is off then there is no power meaning no tv ( which didn't work while we were there) or internet. So be ready for bed at 10pm. The house itself is very nice but owner is living in the house also (did not realize they also lived in house, thought was near by on property) The biggest issue was mice in the ceiling as the bedrooms are downstairs at nite you can hear them running across the ceiling. Did let owner know so hope that problem is dealt with.

Great find!
Very clean and well equipped home. Super quiet and pretty location was perfect home base for our biking and hiking adventures. Owner was easy to reach and attentive. Great river for the dog and quiet reading and swimming just across the road. Close enough to town and great for accessing Cowichan Valley bike trails. Definitely would stay again.

Quaint Cabin
Stayed at the cabin for a week at the end of July. Excellent hosts and the cabin is very nicely equipped. Had some issues with cell/internet connection but that is also part of the charm of being "off the grid". A bit far out of the way but once you drive it a few times it is not that bad (10km)
Overall great stay, would easily recommend.

Great Stay!!
was great at giving up to date info with regards to the rental and with any initial inquiries. The cabin was very homey and was well equipped - even going as far as spices, smores and extra toiletries including toothbrushes!! Sticky notes were helpful and the owner was on hand for any queries. One suggestion would be to set out in a booklet everything the renter needs to know about the appliances and the generator in a bit more detail than the sticky notes so that, for example, if the gas fridge stops working press the reset button, etc. etc. Other than that we were able to visit quite a few beautiful places and went to numerous waterholes.

The Last House on the Left
Described as 'off grid', this place was almost off the map. It was, however, remarkable. Spacious accommodation on two floors, the lower of which stayed cool even in 30+ heat - handy, as that was where the bedrooms were. Quiet pine forest with only the cheeping and whirring of hummingbirds over the sound of the river. Good (if cold) swimming nearby. I had no problems cooking in a well-equipped kitchen, though I suspect that catering for many more than four might have been trickier. Friendly old dog who followed us on a walk, and an even friendlier pig, named Lincoln. Our only regret was that his attempted escape was just hours AFTER we left, rather than before. Excellent host, and excellent value - we would love to return!
